Perth Scorchers beat Brisbane Heat in a thriller

PERTH: Perth Scorchers beat Brisbane Heat by six runs in a nail-biting contest of the Big Bash League at the Perth Stadium on Wednesday.

Jason Behrendorff, bowled the final over of the match, defending 17 runs successfully to help his side defeat Heat by six runs in a thriller.

Chasing 154, Heat were off to a poor start. The opening pair could only provide a 12-runs foundation, losing two wickets for just 16 runs. The opener, Chris Lynn, however, tried to retaliate but was too slow for his 27, facing 33 balls.

Batting first, the Scorchers fumbled a little as the side lost their opener, Colin Munro (3) at a combine score of seven.

However, Cameron Bancroft, along with Kurtis Patterson batted sensibly to keep their side out of expected danger. For Heat, Cameron Gannon picked two wickets. Whereas, James Bazley, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Liam Guthrie and Bartlett shared one wicket apiece.

Following this victory, Scorchers has moved up to the third position, while Heat remained at seventh position.

MELBOURNE: Melbourne Renegades beat Adelaide Strikers by two runs in the thriller of the Big Bash League at the Docklands Stadium on Tuesday.

James Pattinson, bowled the final over of the match, defending nine runs successfully to help his side defeat Strikers by two runs in a nail-biting contest.

Chasing 154, Strikers were off to a decent start. The opening pair provided a decent 45-run stand, but both the openers were sent back to the pavilion on a combined score of 50. Jake Weatherald scored 18 off 17 balls including two boundaries, while Matthew Short smashed 29 off 18 balls laced with one boundary and two sixes.

Later, Harry Nielsen struck 30 including just one boundary, he was a touch too slow for his top-score for the side.

Soon after, the wickets began to tumble and the Strikers were reduced to 151/8 in 20 overs, losing the game by just two runs.

Zahir Khan was the stand-out bowler for his side, taking three wickets, while Will Sutherland took two wickets. Kane Richardson, Pattinson and Reece Topley each struck out a batter.

Batting first, Renegades also started their innings well as their openers put on a solid 65-run stand. Soon after, the wickets began to fall at an alarming rate, which pretty much slowed down the proceedings and Renegades were eventually restricted to 153/9 in 20 overs. The side lost their last seven wickets for just 39 runs.

Peter Siddle bagged three wickets for Strikers, while Daniel Worrall and George Garton each took two wickets. Whereas, Rashid Khan and Short shared one wicket apiece.

Sixers thump Stars to start Big Bash League on a winning note

SYDNEY: Josh Philippe and Moises Henrique partnered strongly to help Sydney Sixers thump Melbourne Stars by 152-runs in the opening match of Big Bash League season 11 here at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. 

Philippe and Henrique smoked 102 runs together as the Sixers amassed a massive 213-run total in the allotted 20 overs. Philippe smashed 83 runs off 47 balls including eight boundaries and three maximums, while Henriques scored an unbeaten 76 off 38 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes.

Earlier, James Vince struck 44 off 29 including eight boundaries to give the Sixers a strong start in the first inning.

For Stars, Brody Couch bagged two wickets. Whereas, Glenn Maxwell and Sam Rainbird each struck out a batter.

In reply, Sixers bowling attack trapped Stars batters completely. They were bowled out for skimpy 61 runs in 11.1 overs. Hilton Cartwright scored 10 followed by highest run-scorer of the side, Peter Nevill with 17 runs.
