Conspiracy involved in getting Indian visas for Junior Hockey world cup: Asif Bajwa

Lahore: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Asif Bajwa believes that there is a conspiracy involved from Hockey India in getting visas for Junior Hockey World Cup.

According to Bajwa, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) invited PHF to participate in the World Cup on September 23 but the next day, they were told that the last date to submit visa application was September 24.

“On September 23, we were told that Hockey India had sent an email on September 18. But we did not receive any mail from Hockey India on September 18,” he said.

Bajwa questioned that the Junior World Cup schedule was released on September 23, so how did Hockey India mail on September 18?

“We had asked Hockey India for ten days to apply for visas. I have spoken to FIH President Narendra Batra and Chief Executive Asian Hockey Tayyab Ikram on the issue. Both have assured support,” he added.

“We have sent the preliminary list of players and officials to Hockey India. We have also completed 90% of the visa application process,” Asif Bajwa added.

Asif revealed that they have asked the government of Pakistani for the NOC. “PHF wants to play in the World Cup but will abide by the decision of the government over participation.”

The 12th Junior Hockey World Cup is scheduled in India from November 24 to December 5. Pakistan got direct qualification to the mega event after Junior Asia Cup was postponed due to COVID-19.

Pakistan fails to get hosting rights of FIH Hockey5s World Cup

Karachi: The Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Thursday picked Oman to host the inaugural Hockey5s World Cups (Men and Women) to be played in January 2024 as Pakistan failed to get the nod of hosting.
India and Singapore were also in the race to host flagship event. Matches will take place in Oman’s capital city Muscat, FIH said in a statement.

The Hockey5s’ event is a brand-new FIH competition. Sixteen teams per gender (3 per continent + Oman as hosts) will take part in this first edition. Continental Hockey5s qualifiers for the World Cup will be organized in 2022.
“We’re looking forward to a wonderful inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Oman. This surely will be a great boost for the promotion of hockey both in the country and in the whole region,” FIH CEO Thierry Weil said.
“We’re convinced that Hockey5s will play a key role in the growth of hockey worldwide. This is why this World Cup has been created, as well as a Hockey5s World Tour which we are currently working on.”
In 2019, the FIH Executive Board decided to create an FIH Hockey5s World Cup, with a view to further boosting the development of the game globally through the promotion of its 5-a-side format. Played in about 70 countries in the world, Hockey5s was the most attended sport at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
