Dubai Police issue security plan for Pakistan-India Asia Cup Final

DUBAI: The Dubai Police have announced stringent security measures for the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 final between Pakistan and India, scheduled for Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

In an advisory, authorities urged spectators to arrive at least three hours before the start of play to avoid congestion. Each ticket will allow only a single entry, with no re-entry permitted once a fan exits the venue.

The guidelines include a ban on flammable materials, weapons, laser pointers, fireworks, glass items, tripods, and selfie sticks.

The group-stage meeting drew 20,000 spectators, while the Super Four encounter saw 17,000 in attendance.

The final, however, marks the first-ever Asia Cup title showdown between the arch-rivals in the tournament’s 41-year history.

Pakistan sealed their place in the decider with a tense 11-run win over Bangladesh on September 25, setting up a third face-off with India in this edition.

India won both earlier matches, though both encounters were marred by controversies.

Suryakumar Yadav clears fitness test ahead of Asia Cup 2025: reports

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened the door for a return to action, with reports suggesting he has regained full fitness ahead of the ACC Asia Cup 2025.

According to Indian media, the right-hander has successfully cleared a mandatory fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The clearance almost confirms his availability for the Asia Cup and continuation as India’s captain in the shortest format.

The development comes as a major boost for India, who are set to feature in the Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

Suryakumar Yadav is also expected to be present at the team selection meeting in Mumbai on August 19, alongside chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.

The 34-year-old had been on the sidelines since the conclusion of IPL 2025, where he was representing the Mumbai Indians.

During the tournament, he scored 717 runs, becoming only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to breach the 600-run mark for the franchise.

Following the tournament, he underwent surgery in Munich, Germany, to treat a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen.

Since returning to India in June, Suryakumar Yadav has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, where he gradually resumed batting and fitness drills before proving his readiness.

It’s worth noting that the Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9, with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong in the Group B opener.

India’s campaign will begin on September 10 against the UAE, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on September 14. Their final group-stage fixture is scheduled against Oman on September 19.

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 next week, Indian media reported on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the selection committee and team management have begun final deliberations and are expected to announce the squad on August 19 or 20

The BCCI has decided to collect fitness test results for all players before making the announcement to ensure the squad is fully fit.

Several notable names, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul, are reportedly set to miss out, while Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have secured their spots.

Uncertainty remains over India Test captain Shubman Gill’s inclusion in the squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

While no decision has been finalised, his exceptional form in the recent Test series against England makes him a strong contender for the T20I squad.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s participation will also hinge on his fitness clearance.

ACC president Mohsin Naqvi reveals dates for Asia Cup 2025

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, on Saturday, revealed the official dates and venue for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

Naqvi confirmed that the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

He made the announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the detailed match schedule will be revealed soon.

“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE,” he wrote. “The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th.”

“We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket! Detailed Schedule will be out soon.”

For the unversed, the 2025 edition of the continental event will feature eight teams, up from six in the previous edition.

Alongside full-member nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, three teams from the ACC Premier Cup, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong, have qualified for the main event.

A total of 19 matches will be played across the tournament, with the final scheduled for the last Sunday of September.

India and Pakistan are expected to be drawn in the same group, creating the possibility of up to three high-voltage clashes between the arch-rivals in the group stage, Super Four, and possibly the final.

In line with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20 format.

Originally, India was set to host the tournament, but given the continued political deadlock between India and Pakistan, the event has been moved to a neutral venue.

The UAE was eventually locked in as the host after ACC’s annual meeting in Dhaka, with both the PCB and BCCI reportedly agreeing to keep ICC tournaments at neutral grounds due to the lack of bilateral travel between the two sides.
