Hosts Pakistan are placed in the same group as arch-rivals India and Nepal while the other group includes defending champions and co-hosts Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be played in the ODI format and will serve as an opportunity for the Asian teams to bolster their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup.

Pakistan Shaheens crush India A to win Men’s Emerging Asia Cup

Tayyab Tahir’s sparkling century helped Pakistan Shaheens beat India A by 128 runs in the final of the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday evening.

This was Pakistan Shaheens’ second successive ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup title, after the side defeated Bangladesh in the 2019 edition final.

After being put into bat, the openers provided a solid 121-run start to the innings. Saim Ayub (59, 51b, 7x4s, 2x6s) was the first batter to return to the hut.

His opening partner Sahibzada Farhan (65, 62b, 4x4s, 4x6s) was the next batter to be dismissed with 146 runs on the board.

After the departure of opening batters, Shaheens were in a spot of bother when they lost three wickets in quick succession. Omair Bin Yousuf (35, 35b,4x4s), Qasim Akram (naught) and captain Mohammad Haris (2, 6b) went back to the pavilion with Shaheens 187 for five in 28.4 overs.

At that crucial juncture of the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup final, Tayyab was joined by Mubasir Khan and the pair stitched 126 runs for the sixth wicket.

Right-handed batter Tayyab brought up his fourth List A century off just 66 balls. He was dismissed for 108 off 71 balls, which included 12 fours and four towering sixes.

Mubasir’s 47-ball 35 and cameos from Mehran Mumtaz (13, 10b, 2x4s) and Mohammad Wasim Jnr (17 not out, 10b, 1×4, 1×6) helped Shaheens post a mammoth 352 for eight in 50 overs.

For India A, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Riyan Parag bagged two wickets apiece.

Chasing 353, India A openers got off to a decent start, stitching a 64-run partnership for the first wicket, but once the opening stand was broken, India A were never in the hunt and were bundled out for 224 in 40 overs.

Opening batter Abhishek Sharma top-scored with a 51-ball 61, hitting five fours and a six.

For Shaheens, Sufiyan Muqeem bagged three wickets for 66, while Arshad Iqbal, Mehran Mumtaz and Mohammad Wasim Jnr took two wickets each.

Tayyab, for his century, was named the player of the Men’s Emerging Asia Cup final.

Sudharsan ton aids India A thump Pakistan Shaheens in Emerging Asia Cup

COLOMBO: Sai Sudharsan scored a magnificent century and led India A to a thumping eight-wicket victory over Pakistan Shaheens in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup on Wednesday.

Set to chase a modest 206-run total, India comfortably accumulated 210/2 in 36.4 overs at the back of a dominating century knock by Sai Sudharan.

India A openers Sudharan and Abhishek Sharma scripted a solid start to the pursuit with a 58-run partnership.

The pair tested Pakistan Shaheens’ bowlers before Mubasir Khan found a much-needed breakthrough by castling Sharma, who scored 20 off 28.

Sudharsan and Nikin Jose then put India A in complete control with a terrific 99-run partnership with both scoring half-centuries.

Jose, however, fell briefly after amassing the milestone as Mehran Mumtaz got him stumped. He scored 53 from 64 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries.

Skipper Yash Dhull (21 off 19) then joined India A mainstay Sudharsan in the middle and stitched a match-winning partnership.

Sudharsan remained unbeaten with a brilliant century. His 110-ball 104 featured 10 boundaries and three sixes.

For Pakistan, only Mubasir Khan and Mehran Mumtaz could pick up a wicket.

Opting to bat first in the high-octane clash against arch-rivals India A, Pakistan Shaheens’ batting lineup failed and could only accumulate 205 before being bundled out in the 48th over.

Pakistan Shaheens had a dismal start to their innings as the green shirts lost Saim Ayub (0) and Omair Bin Yousuf (0) in the fourth with just nine runs on the scoreboard.

Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan looked to anchor the innings with Kamran Ghulam after back-to-back dismissals.

The pair could add 36 runs to the total before Riyan Parag got rid of Farhan, who could score 35 off 36 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries.

Following Farhan’s dismissal, Kamran put on a brief partnership with Haseebullah before both perished in the 23rd over to leave Pakistan in trouble at 78/5.

Pakistan Shaheens’ captain Mohammad Haris could not stop the flow of wickets as he also fell after managing to score a mere 14.

Following the slump, Qasim Akram joined forces with Mubasir Khan and put on a crucial 53-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

The pair batted with great domination and looked in control before Nishant Sindhu trapped Khan plump in front to end the budding partnership.

Khan scored a cautious 38-ball 28 which featured four boundaries.

Akram then put on another important partnership for Pakistan Shaheens when he paired up with Mehran Mumtaz for the 43-run partnership before eventually perishing in the 46th over.

He top-scored for Pakistan Shaheens with an anchoring 48 from 63 deliveries, hitting five boundaries.

Mumtaz, on the other hand, carried his bat all the way through with an unbeaten 25 off 26 but ran out of partners when Hangarekar removed Shahnawaz Dahani in the 48th over to wrap up the innings.

Hangarekar led the bowling attack for India A with 5/42 followed by Manav Suthar’s 3/36 while Parag and Sindhu made one scalp each.

Qasim Akram’s six-fer leads Shaheens to thump UAE in Emerging Asia Cup

Qasim Akram’s six-wicket haul and half-centuries by Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Haris, Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub led Pakistan Shaheens to a commanding 184-run win over UAE A in the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup.

This was Pakistan Shaheens’ second successive win in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup after the defending champions defeated Nepal by four wickets on Friday at the Colombo Cricket Ground.

Chasing 310 to win, the spin duo of Qasim and Sufiyan Muqeem were all over the UAE A batters after openers Aryansh Sharma (37, 34b, 8x4s) and Jonathan Figy (25, 50, 4x4s) stitched a 59-run partnership for the first wicket.

After the departure of both opening batters, only Nilansh Keswani (17, 30b, 2x4s) and Ethan D’Souza (10,19b, 2x4s) managed to enter into double figures.

Qasim, with his right-arm off-spin bowling, bagged six wickets for 26 runs from 10 overs while left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan ended up with match figures of 8.5-1-36-3.

Earlier, after being put into bat, Pakistan Shaheens’ opening pair of Saim and Sahibzada provided a solid 98-run start to the innings.

Right-handed Sahibzada was the first one to return back to the hut after scoring 63 off 55 balls, which included 10 fours and one six. Left-hander Saim was soon to follow Sahibzada, not before smashing five fours and two sixes of his 63-ball 56 innings.

Following the dismissals of both openers, Omair Bin Yousuf (24, 39b, 2x4s) was next to go with the scorecard reading Pakistan Shaheens three for 160 in 27.4 overs.

At that important juncture of the match, Kamran Ghulam was joined by skipper Mohammad Haris and the pair knitted an 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Haris (55, 46b, 9x4s) returned back to the pavilion in the 40th over, while Kamran (63, 53b, 4x4s, 4x6s) followed his captain as Shaheens were 284 for five in 43.4 overs.

The late middle-order then failed to contribute significantly as Shaheens were dismissed for 309 in 49.2 overs – losing five wickets for 24 runs.

For UAE A, Jash Giyanani was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs.

Pakistan Shaheens will now face India A in their third fixture of the ongoing ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup on 19 July at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. The first ball of the match will be bowled at 1330 PKT.

Pakistan Shaheens off to winning start in Emerging Asia Cup with Nepal win

COLOMBO: Pakistan Shaheens scripted a winning start to their ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 campaign with a resounding four-wicket victory over Nepal on Friday.

In their first match of the Emerging Asia Cup, Pakistan Shaheens outclassed Nepal by four wickets and 103 balls to spare at the back of brilliant performances by Shahnawaz Dahani and Tayyab Tahir.

Pakistan Shaheens were set to chase a modest 180-run target after their pacers dismantled Nepal’s batting lineup in the first innings, dismissing the associate nation on 179.

Rising batter Tayyab Tahir spearheaded Pakistan’s pursuit against Nepal with a sensible knock and top-scored for Pakistan.

The right-handed batter scored a cautious 51 off 67 deliveries, hitting six boundaries.

Tahir walked out in the middle when Shaheens were 50/2 in the 10th over and stitched a vital 64-run partnership with Omair Bin Yousuf, who scored 36 off 40 deliveries.

He, alongside Kamran Ghulam, raised a crucial fourth-wicket partnership and added 34 runs to the total before walking back to the pavilion with his side sniffing a comfortable victory.

Kamran Ghulam, who played an anchoring role in the run chase after Tahir’s departure, could not manage to carry his bat all the way through and fell in the 33rd over when his side needed just three more runs.

Ghulam scored a brisk 31 off 26 balls with the help of a boundary and two sixes.

Opting to bat first, Nepal batters struggled massively against a dominant Pakistan bowling attack and could only pile a paltry 179 before bundling out in 37 overs.

After having a disastrous start, Nepal continued to lose wickets at an alarming rate and soon slipped to 72/8.

With Nepal in heaps of trouble, Sompal Kami launched a counter-attack against Pakistan Shaheens with his sensible knock.

The tailender raised an astonishing 58-run partnership with Pratis GC, who could score 26 off 24 before perishing in the 28th over.

Pratis’s dismissal did not affect Kami much as he then put on a one-sided partnership with Lalit Rajbanshi (1*) and added 49 runs to the total before Shahnawaz Dahani finally removed him in the 37th over.

Sompal Kami top-scored for Nepal with a 101-ball 75 with the help of nine boundaries and two sixes.

Shahnawaz Dahani led the bowling attack for Pakistan Shaheens with a five-for, followed by Mohammad Wasim Jr, who returned figures of 4/51.

In another Emerging Asia Cup fixture, India A handed an eight-wicket thrashing to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
