Hamza beats Indian rival to reach U21 World Snooker Championship semis

RIYADH: Young Pakistan cueist Muhammad Hamza Ilyas on Saturday, outclassed his Indian opponent Dhruv Patel 4-2 to storm into the semi-final of the ongoing IBSF World U21 Snooker Championship.

In the quarter-final of the World U21 Snooker Championship, Muhammad Hamza Ilyas carried on his rich vein of form to thump Dhruv Patel 4-2 in the Best of 7.

Hamza completely outclassed Patel in the opening frame by a scoreline of 66-23.

The young Indian cueist soon recollected himself and put on a better show in the next frame but Hamza held his nerves calm to edge him by a mere two points margin and claimed a 2-0 lead.

Patel finally made a scintillating comeback in the third frame in a dominating manner but Hamza claimed the next frame to restore his advantage at 3-1.

The next two frames also followed the same pattern as Patel cut Hamza’s advantage with a dominating fifth-set victory but the Pakistan cueist once again hit back to claim the next frame.

Thus, Hamza Ilyas carried on his unbeaten run and registered a berth in the semi-final of the ongoing competition.

He next faces Germany’s Alexander on Sunday in a bid to reach the final.

Meanwhile, another Pakistan cueist participating in the World Championship, Ahsan Ramzan, succumbed to a shock defeat against Iran’s Tirdad Azadipour.

Tirdad, who lost to Ahsan Ramzan on his home ground in the semi-final of the U21 Asian Snooker Championship, was more cautious and started with an opening break of 54 points to secure the first frame 74(54)-02.

Ahsan Ramzan performed brilliantly and scored a few points in the second session, but Tirdad was once more aggressive and won the game 61-39.

Ahsan attempted to make a comeback in the game but remained unsuccessful.

Tirdad, on the other hand, was prepared to make up for any errors and eventually won the third frame 63-27 to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the 2023 World Under-21 Snooker Championship.

Ahsan Ramzan departs for IBSF U17 & U21 World Snooker Championships

Pakistan snooker prodigy Ahsan Ramzan on Tuesday, left for Saudi Arabia to partake in the IBSF U17 & U21 World Snooker Championship.

In a statement released by the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), the Pakistan contingent, comprised of Ahsan Ramzan and Muhammad Hamza Ilyas will represent the nation in the global event.

The IBSF U17 & U21 World Snooker Championship commenced on July 7 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and will conclude on July 16.

To participate in the event, Ahsan Ramzan alongside Muhammad Hamza Ilyas flew off from Jinnah International Airport, Karachi by Saudi Arabian Airlines via flight no. SV 701 which took off at 1005 PST.

It is important to note that Ahsan Ramzan also participated in the U21 Asian Snooker Championship in Iran last month where he put on a dominant run before getting his hands on the prestigious silverware.

He continued his rich vein of form in the continental event and remained unbeaten.

In the final of the event, Ahsan Ramzan outclassed Iranian opponent Milad Pourali Darehchi with a score of 5-2 (48-46, 70-5(41), 61-6(52), 62-29, 30-71, 55-67, 101-27) to get his hands on the silverware.

Despite making his nation proud, the young cueist received no welcome upon his arrival to the country, alongside fellow cueist Haris Tahir, via Jinnah International Airport here.

“It is not a pity that no one came to welcome me,” said Ahsan Ramzan.

“I have a trophy in my hand and a gold medal around my neck and I am delighted with this honour.

“There is no hope from the government. I want to say that may Allah guide the government,” he added.

Speaking on his title-winning victory over the Iranian opponent in the final, Ahsan Ramzan asserted that his experience from the World Cup Final helped him to handle the pressure in the tense match.

“There is no doubt that an individual always gets a reward for his hard work. I have also played the final of the World Cup, that’s why I was used to playing under pressure,” said Ramzan.

TEHRAN: Pakistan’s young cueist Ahsan Ramzan continued his dominant show in the U21 Asian Snooker Championship and qualified for the final.

According to the details, Ahsan Ramzan outclassed Iran’s Tirdad Azadipour 4-2 to make his way into the final.

Ahsan started his semi-final clash on a high as he dominated Azadipour in the opening two frames with the scoreline of 76-8 and 102-1 respectively.

‘Can’t bear expenses by myself’ Ahsan Ramzan seeks government support

LAHORE: Young Pakistani cueist Ahsan Ramzan urged the government to extend financial support for him and other talented athletes of the country while conceding that he couldn’t bear the expenses on his own for participating at the International level.

“Government must assist since I cannot bear the expenses on my own,” said IBSF World Champion Ahsan in a private ceremony held in his honour.

“I might deal with the problems but what about the new players?” he added. “The government should play its part in promoting snooker in Pakistan.”

Moreover, the 16-year-old expressed his desire to enter the professional circuit and hoped that he would clinch a title in the upcoming IBSF World Junior Snooker Championships scheduled this month in Romania.

Ahsan Ramzan reaches quarter-finals of Snooker event in World Games

BIRMINGHAM: Young Pakistani cueist and IBSF Under-21 World Snooker Champion Ahsan Ramzan has qualified for the quarter-final round after a 3-1 win in his opening game of the Snooker event in the World Games, here on Wednesday.

Ahsan outpowered his US opponent Ahmed Aly Elsayed in the fourth frame of best of five as he lost just one frame.

The young Pakistani cueist took an early lead by winning the first frame 73-31, meanwhile, his US counterpart came back in the second frame to tie the match with a frame score of 58-49.

Ahsan rebounded in the third and fourth frames, outscoring his opponent by 100-34 and 74-53, respectively.

The young Pakistani sensation will now compete in the quarter-final round on July 15.

It is worth mentioning here that Ahsan is the only athlete representing Pakistan in the 11th edition of the multi-sport World Games, an international event for non-Olympic sports currently underway in Birmingham, Alabama, United States of America.

Ahsan Ramzan receives US Visa to participate in World Games

KARACHI: The IBSF Under-21 World Snooker Champion Ahsan Ramzan along with coach Wahid Qadir received Visa to the United States of America (USA) to participate in the forthcoming World Games. 

For the upcoming World Games, scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Alabama, the Pakistani contingent comprising of the professional cueist Ahsan, his coach Qadir and the official Javed Karim have been granted Visas for the country.

The three-member Pakistan squad will report to the US on July 10 and will then start their preparations for the event.

The World Games are scheduled to take place in Birmingham from July 7 to 17. Ahsan will be representing Pakistan in the Snooker.

Pakistan’s Ahsan beats Iran’s Amir to win World Snooker Championship

DOHA: Pakistan’s young cueist Ahsan Ramzan defeated Iran’s Amir Sarkosh 6-5 to win the IBSF Under 21 World Snooker Championship 2022, here on Friday.

The final of the world championship comprises a total of 11 frames, saw a see-saw battle between the two cueists with Ahsan pulling ahead and Amir levelling.

Ahsan, was off to flying as the young cueist managed to seal a 2-0 lead in the first two frames, while Amir bounced back quickly to level the scores at 2-2 in the next two frames.

The Iranian cueist then further extended his lead to 4-2; pulling two next frames by 68-28 and 66-27 respectively.

The next two frames, saw a see-saw battle between the two cueist as Ahsan bounced back by securing his third frame, while Amir won his fifth to keep the lead intact.

In the ninth frame, Ahsan completely outclassed his Iranian opponent, winning the frame 69-0. The former then carried the momentum into the 10th frame and went on to level the scores at 5-5.

In the 11th and the deciding frame of the final, Ahsan dominated and took the lead in his control thus forcing his opponent in search of snooker in the closing minutes.
