Pakistan’s Shahzeb bags Bronze in Asian Taekwondo Championship

CHUNCHEON-SI: Pakistan’s Taekwondo player Shahzeb Khan showed off his class as he bagged the Bronze medal on the opening day of the recently-concluded Asian Taekwondo Championships, here on Friday.

According to the details, the Pakistani athlete enjoyed a brilliant run on his way to the semi-finals including a victory over his Thai opponent in the quarters.

The Pakistani athlete, however, then suffered a defeat at the hands of the Jordanian athlete, who outclassed Shahzeb by 2-0.

The Jordanian player sealed the first round with scores of 20-17 before making his way to the final by claiming the second round 17-7.

Shahzaib, on the other hand, triumphed in the third-ranking playoff to bag the bronze and added the first medal to his country’s cabinet.

It is pertinent to mention here that a 10-member Pakistan contingent is partaking in the competition under the supervision of the Iranian head coach Yousuf Karami.

Pakistan’s Haroon Khan wins bronze medal at 24th Asian Taekwondo Championship

Beirut: Pakistan’s Haroon Khan has claimed a bronze medal at the 24th Asian Taekwondo Championship in Beirut, Lebanon.
Haroon Khan was seriously injured by a Tajik player in the quarterfinals. Haroon Khan wanted to play in the semi-finals despite being injured but doctors did not allow him to play.
President of Pakistan Taekwondo Federation Col (retd) Wasim Janjua announced a cash award of Rs 100,000 for Haroon Khan and Rs 25,000 for Hamza Saeed.
“With the fearlessness and bravery with which Haroon was playing, there was a strong hope that he would also qualify for the finaL,” Wasim said.
“The Tajik player deliberately injured him, which is against the sportsmen spirit,” he added.
“Reaching the medal table in the Asian event is a great achievement. He is the pride of Pakistan,” Wasim maintained.

Beirut: Pakistan team grabbed silver medal in the team Poomsae event at the Asian Taekwondo Champ­ionship.
Philippines’ Nikki Oliva, Kobe Macario, Juvenile Crisostomo, Jeordan Dominguez and Marvin Mori won gold medals in the said event.
Freestyle taekwondo Over-17 category silver medallists Ayesha Noor, Najia Rasool, Hamza Saeed, Haroon Khan and Shahzeb Khan said, “We would like to thank Almighty Allah for this win against top-class performers from Asia. The credit [for this win] also goes to our coaches and the federation for their patronage and support.”
Pakistan Taekwondo Federation president retired Col Waseem Janjua and team leader Omar Saeed congratulated the position holders for their outstanding performance, saying winning the silver in an Asian event is a good sign for us as well as for taekwondo in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Waseem announced Rs 50,000 cash award for every medal winner.
