Australia Women hammer Pakistan in second T20I to seal series

HOBART: Beth Mooney led the batting charge after bowlers decimated the visitors’ batting lineup as Australia outclassed Pakistan in the second T20I on Thursday and sealed the series with a game to spare.

Australia tapped the full extent of their bowling arsenal as they utilized nine bowlers to confine Pakistan’s fragile batting on a paltry total of 96/7 after they opted to bat first.

In return, Mooney displayed her striking prowess as she scored a stunning 46 from 29 balls to steer Australia to a comfortable eight-wicket win with 44 balls to spare.

Skipper Meg Lanning, on the other hand, contributed 31 off 32 in the chase before she was dismissed in the ninth over off Nida Dar, who then went on to hunt down Mooney in her next over.

Earlier, opener Munneba Ali and skipper Bismah Maroof put up a brief resistance as the two gathered 35 runs for the second wicket before Pakistan underwent a middle-over collapse and started to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Besides Muneeba’s 35 and the skipper’s unbeaten 29 from 28 balls, none of the batters could make an impactful batting performance.

A paltry 97-run target was never enough to cause any trouble to the mighty Australian side, who have now defeated Pakistan in five consecutive matches during the tour, including three ODIs.

With yet another disappointing outcome following a 3-0 ODI series whitewash, Pakistan are yet to find their first win in Australia with only a T20I now left to be played.

Mooney-led Australia thump Pakistan to complete clean sweep in ODIs

SYDNEY: Australian opener Beth Mooney struck a magnificent century to aid in her side’s dominant 101-run victory over Pakistan in the third ODI as they swept the ODI series 3-0 on Saturday.

Put into bat first, Australia piled up a mammoth 336/9 in their allotted 50 overs at the back of a terrific century by Mooney.

Australia had a contrasting start to their innings as they lost their young opener Phoebe Litchfield (9) cheaply for just 19 in the eighth over.

Mooney, however, then settled things down for Australia by stitching a gritty 160-run partnership with skipper Meg Lanning, who struck 72 off 70 deliveries.

The wicketkeeper batter then added another vital partnership with Ellyse Perry (15) before Nida Dar brought an end to her splendid knock.

She top-scored for her side with 133 off just 105 deliveries, hitting 14 boundaries and four sixes.

Following Mooney’s brilliance, some vital contributions from Tahlia McGrath (30), Annabel Sutherland (26) and Ashleigh Gardner (19) powered Australia to 336/9.

Fatima Sana was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with 3/53, while Diana Baig and Dar picked up two wickets each.

Set to chase 337, Pakistan could accumulate 235/7 in their set of overs as none of their batters could score big in the run chase.

Skipper Bismah Maroof top-scored for the touring side with 44 but was a touch too slow as she conceded 71 deliveries after openers Sadaf Shamas (30) and Sidra Ameen (34) provided a cautious start.

Despite their batters chipping with some contributions, Pakistan fell 101 runs short of victory due to a defensive approach.

Ashleigh Gardner led the Australian bowling attack with 3/30, while Jess Jonassen claimed two wickets.

Litchfield shines on debut as Australia Women beat Pakistan in first ODI

BRISBANE: Debutant Phoebe Litchfield and returning captain Meg Lanning led the batting charge to steer Australia to a comfortable win by eight wickets against the Pakistan Women’s team in the first ODI.

In a rain-reduced match, Pakistan managed 160/8 in the allotted 40 overs with help of an anchoring knock by Nida Dar, who scored 59 from 88 balls.

Chasing a revised target of 158 in 40 overs, Lanning and Litchfield stitched an astounding partnership of 137 runs after the early dismissal of Beth Mooney off Diana Baig in the first over.

With Pakistan being below par on the field, dropping two catches and a number of misfields, Lanning made 67 off 76 balls while teenaged Litchfield went not-out on 78.

After putting her side into command, the Australian captain was dismissed in the 28th over off Omaima Sohail’s bowling.

Earlier, Australian spinners dominated Pakistan’s batting after rain paused the game for 90 minutes at the start. Ashleigh Gardner, Jess Jonassen and Alana King jolted the Green Shirts’ batting line-up in the middle overs while Darcie Brown removed both openers, Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali, before the rain break.

Skipper Bismah Maroof hit several eloquent drives before falling prey to Ashleigh Gardener on 28. Dar, however, was standout despite no effective support from the other end.
