Pakistan beat Bangladesh in ICC Women’s WC Warm-up match

LINCOLN: Pakistan sealed a thrilling victory over Bangladesh by seven runs in their second warm-up match of the ICC Women’s World Cup, here on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s young pacer Fatima Sana, alongside Nashra Sandhu wreaked havoc over the Bangladesh batting line-up; dismissing the latter on 194.

Set to chase a revised target of 201, Bangladesh had a poor start to their innings; losing two wickets for a mere 29 runs as Sharmin Akhter and Shamima Sultana walked back to the pavilion after scoring cheaply.

Fargana Hoque and the skipper Nigar Sultana anchored the innings with a gritty 42-runs partnership for the third wicket before Sultana perished in the 18th over after scoring 15.

Hoque then put on another handy partnership with the newly joined Rumana Ahmed. The pair appeared solid and posted a magnificent 49-runs partnership for the fourth wicket. In the 29th over, however, Fatima castled Rumana for 30; triggering a match-defining collapse.

Following the dismissal, the side began to lose wickets at an alarming rate and in the end were bowled out for 194 in the run chase.

For the green shirts, Fatima bagged four wickets, while Nashra claimed three. Aiman Anwer and Ghulam Fatima, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

Batting first, Pakistan managed to finish at 199/7 in the allotted 42 overs, thanks to the brilliant knocks of Aliya Riaz and Javeria Khan.

Coming out to bat, Pakistan had a similar start to Bangladesh; losing the first three wickets with just 38 runs on the scoreboard. Javeria and the skipper Bismah Maroof then anchored the innings with a magnificent 73-runs partnership for the fourth wicket.

The pair appeared solid until the 26th over as Javeria departed after scoring a brilliant 44 off 62 balls, laced with five boundaries. Soon after, Bismah also made her way back to the pavilion after managing to score 32. She faced 44 balls and smashed two boundaries.

Following this, the green shirts slipped to 120-6 in the 29th over as Omaima Sohail was dismissed cheaply for a mere two.

Aliya and Fatima then stood up for their team; putting on a valiant 66-runs partnership for the seventh wicket. Both the batters played brilliant knocks to bolster the total. Fatima scored 29 off 33 balls; including two boundaries, while Aliya remained unbeaten with his 45 with the help of seven boundaries.

For Bangladesh, Fariha Trisna and Ritu Moni bagged three wickets each, while Nahid Akter made one scalp.

Pakistan thump Bangladesh 6-2 to book a Semi-final spot

DHAKA: Pakistan Men’s Hockey team defeated the hosts Bangladesh by the score of 6-2, in their last round match; qualified for the Semi-finals of the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy.

The Green shirts put on a show in their last round match against the hosts, thumping them by 6-2. Aijaz Ahmed and Ahmed Nadeem each scored two goals for the team green.

Pakistan will now face South Korea in the semi-final, whereas, India will lock horns with Japan in their knockout fixture.

The final of the event will take place on 22nd December, 2021.

DHAKA: Babar Azam, captain of Pakistan Cricket Team, reviewed his team’s performance on Bangladesh tour, here on Wednesday.

Babar, in an interview, said that he tries to give confidence to his players by clarifying their role. Players took responsibility in both T20Is and Test series against Bangladesh after T20 World Cup.

“When everyone shows responsibility, the team moves forward.”, Babar said.

Babar also shared that he feels proud to lead such an outstanding team; he also said that the victory in the second Test was something remarkable.

“I am proud to have such a good team, winning the second Test match was an extraordinary feat.”, he added.

Babar also lauded the second Test hero, Sajid Khan for his brilliant bowling, while also gave credit to fast bowlers Hassan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi for proving early breakthrough in the second innings.

“Sajid Khan’s eight wickets gave us momentum, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hassan Ali took early wickets in the morning. Both fast bowlers deserve to be praised.”, Babar added.

Talking about his bowling against Bangladesh, Babar shared that he used to bowl in Under-19 and in First Class Cricket.

“I have been bowling in under-19 and first class, but, bowled for the first time in international cricket. I enjoyed getting a wicket on my bowling.”, he concluded.

It must be noted here that Pakistan, under Babar’s leadership had a successful tour of Bangladesh, whitewashed the hosts in both T20I and Test series.

DHAKA: Sajid Khan bagged his career-best 12-128 as Pakistan completed clean sweep against Bangladesh after sealing the second Test against them by an innings and eight runs here at Shere Bangla Stadium.

Taking the field on Day 5 with Bangladesh at 76-7, Pakistani bowlers dominated throughout. Sajid bagged two more wickets on the last day to complete his best figures (8-42) in a Test inning.

Bangladeshi batters could only add 11 runs to their first innings total on the last day. The hosts were enforced a follow-on.

Coming out to bat again, the Bangladeshi top-order failed yet another time, losing four wickets for just 25 runs. This time Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali did the job, bagging two wickets each to reduce Bangladesh to 25-4.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das carried their way out for Bangladesh and scored well-fought 73 together. But, it was Sajid who bagged Das to provide a much-needed breakthrough to Pakistan. Das scored 45 before his departure.

Mushfiq then partnered with Shakib Al Hasan to score 49 but he remained unlucky to get run out. He made 48 with the help of three boundaries.

Shakib (63) was fighting hard but Sajid was on top of him during the day’s twilight phase. The wicket was priceless as it took Pakistan closer to sealing the Test series 2-0.

Sajid took two more wickets to register his four wickets in the innings, and overall 12 wickets in the Test. Meanwhile, Babar Azam also took his maiden Test wicket. Shaheen and Hasan managed two wickets each.

Azhar walked off after scoring 56 off 144 balls including eight boundaries. Whereas, Babar scored 76 before he got out to Khaled Ahmed. His innings included nine boundaries and a six.

Fawad and Rizwan then partnered strongly to score 103 runs for the fifth wicket. Fawad remained not out for 50 laced with seven boundaries whereas Rizwan scored 53 off 94 spread over four boundaries and a six.

For Bangladesh, Tajiul Islam bagged two wickets while Khaled and Ebadot Hussain shared a wicket apiece.
