Darren Sammy receives Sitara-e-Pakistan award

KARACHI: Former West Indian captain Darren Sammy received the Sitara-e-Pakistan award for his role in the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

Sammy was one of the most prominent names among the foreign cricketers that visited the country for the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 as he led his side Peshawar Zalmi to lift their maiden PSL trophy after defeating Quetta Gladiators.

Later in September, the former West Indian captain returned to Pakistan as part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World XI, which toured the country for a three-match T20I series in an attempt to revive international cricket in Pakistan following the ICC’s five-year ban imposed after a tragic attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009.

Taking to Twitter, the Caribbean all-rounder expressed his gratitude for receiving the honourable award.

“There it is, me collecting the Sitara-I-Pakistan award. Such a proud moment,” Sammy wrote.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sammy is the only captain in T20I cricket history to win two World Cups (2012 and 2016), which makes him one of the most successful captains.
