Patterson goes hard at Hurricanes as Scorchers shine with fourth victory in BBL

HOBART: Perth Scorchers sealed a convincing victory against Hobart Hurricanes by 42 runs, thanks to their opener, Kurtis Patterson, who smashed 78 runs to help his team register a fourth win in Big Bash League (BBL).

The Scorchers restricted Hurricanes to 125/9 in 20 overs; chasing a mammoth 168. The side remained unbeaten with a convincing 42 runs victory.

Chasing 168, the Hurricanes batters struggled throughout the innings, and none of their batters could go big to assist the side to the victory. Nathan Ellis scored 20 off 15 balls; smashing two boundaries.

Will Parker, on the other hand, top-scored for his side; scoring 25 off 17 deliveries, and hitting one boundary and as many sixes.

For Scorchers, Andrew Tye starred, returning with a match-winning bowling figure of 3/19, Peter Hatzoglou and Ashton Agar, on the other hand, each took wickets. Whereas, Tymal Mills struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Scorchers, too, started off poorly; losing their first wicket for just one, as Josh Inglish departed after bagging a four-ball duck. Patterson, however, played a terrific inning and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly. The batter top-scored with 78 off 48 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and five sixes.

Agar, chipping in the end, with a quickfire 30 off 17 deliveries, assisted the side to post 167 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Hurricanes, Jordan Thompson claimed three wickets, while Tom Rogers took two wickets. Riley Meredith, on the other hand, bagged one wicket.

With this victory, the Scorchers consolidated their top position on the points table, while the Hurricanes remained at sixth.

Marsh’s century powers Scorchers to victory

HOBART: Mitchell Marsh scored a brilliant century to help Perth Scorchers beat Hobart Hurricanes by a massive 53-runs margin in their Big Bash League fixture.

Batting first, Scorchers, found themselves in trouble, losing first two wickets for just 33 runs. Colin Munro bagged a duck, while Kurtis Patterson scored 13.

The Scorchers kept losing wickets, but, Marsh, stood firm at the other end; keeping the scoreboard ticking single handedly. The batter scored 100 off just 60 balls, laced with six boundaries and five sixes.

Later, Laurie Evans, also played a superb knock of 40; facing just 24 balls, he smashed five boundaries and a six. Evans’ heroics down the order, assisted the Scorchers to amass a massive total of 182/5 in 20 overs.

For Hurricanes, Nathan Ellis starred; picking two wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane, Scott Boland, and Joel Paris took one wicket apiece.

Chasing 183, Hurricanes, halted by a poor start, losing first two wickets for just seven runs. The skipper, Matthew Wade scored just four, while Caleb Jewell managed to score two.

D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott, however, showed resilience, recorded an important 69-runs partnership before McDermott fell short. The batter scored a brilliant 41 off just 29 balls, including three boundaries and as many sixes.

Hurricanes then, began to lose wickets at an alarming rate, Short too, sent back, and the side dismissed on a skimpy 129; losing the match by 53 runs.

Tymal Mills starred for the Scorchers; picking three wickets and initiated the collapse. Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye each picked two wickets. Whereas, Ashton Tunner, Peter Hatzoglou, and Jason Behrendorff shared one wicket apiece.

Following this victory, Scorchers have extended their unbeaten run in the league and are at the top of the points table, while Hurricanes are at fifth.
