WATCH: Mohammad Abbas, Ishan Kishan win hearts in County Championship

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas and India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan shared a heartwarming moment during Nottinghamshire’s County Championship clash against Yorkshire, drawing widespread admiration from fans across both countries.

The duo, currently playing together for Nottinghamshire, celebrated a wicket with a handshake and hug, a rare sight considering the long-standing on-field rivalry between Indian and Pakistani cricketers.

The moment came on the second day of the match when Abbas dismissed Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth for a duck.

The left-hander edged a delivery from Mohammad Abbas, which was safely pouched by Ishan Kishan behind the stumps.

The two cricketers then came together for a brief but emotional celebration, which was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.

Nottinghamshire’s official social media handles shared the clip, which was widely praised by fans and cricket followers from both sides of the border.

“This is the true beauty of county cricket. I love and admire this game for moments like these,” commented a fan, Khawaja Naeem Akbar.

Another user wrote that seeing Abbas and Kishan playing together increased their respect for both players, while others described the moment as “special” and “beautiful.”

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan impressed with the bat in Nottinghamshire’s first innings, scoring a fluent 87 off 98 deliveries, including one six and 12 fours.

Mohammad Abbas, on the other hand, bowled an economical spell, finishing with figures of 1 for 19 from 10 overs, including four maidens.

It’s worth noting that more India-Pakistan pairings are expected later in the County Championship season, with India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad set to join Yorkshire in July.

Meanwhile, Pakistan batter Abdullah Shafique has also signed with the same franchise and is expected to feature in the tournament once his visa issues are resolved.

Nottinghamshire unites Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas and India’s Ishan Kishan

NOTTINGHAM: In a rare appearance, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas and India’s Ishan Kishan are playing together for Nottinghamshire in the match against Yorkshire here at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

The Indian middle-order batter Ishan Kishan is making his debut after recently signing a short-term deal with Nottinghamshire for two matches.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Abbas is a regular in the Country circuit. The pacer has taken 16 wickets in five matches so far.

Speaking before making his debut, Ishan Kishan highlighted the importance of each session in the longest form of the game.

“In England, you don’t have so much time. Every session is going to be very important. Here you have to concentrate on every ball while having faith in your partner. There are various factors that I have to keep in mind,” he said.

Nottinghamshire are currently on top of the table in the County Championship Division one, while Yorkshire have just managed to secure one victory in seven matches.

It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first time Pakistan and India players have shared the field in the County Championship.

Previously, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan and the Indian top-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara represented Sussex County Cricket Club.

For the unversed, India and Pakistan tensions have escalated in recent times, with both teams playing their last bilateral series way back in 2012-13.

In addition to this, Pakistan players do not feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the world’s marquee Twenty20 competitions.

Virender Sehwag criticizes Ishan Kishan’s ‘Brain Fade’ moment

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has strongly criticized Ishan Kishan for leaving the crease despite being given not out during the match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The incident occurred during the third over of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings, when Ishan Kishan attempted to play a delivery on the leg side but failed to make contact with the ball.

Mumbai Indians’ wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton collected the ball cleanly, but none of the players made an appeal for a catch. However, Ishan walked away from the field.

Virender Sehwag referred to the incident as a brain fade moment, stating that Ishan should have paused for the umpire’s decision.

“Many times, the mind fails to work at that moment. It was a brain fade. At least stop and wait for the umpire to make his decision. He is also being paid for his job,” Sehwag said.

Virender Sehwag criticized Ishan for demonstrating honesty despite the umpire’s unclear decision.

“I don’t understand this kind of honesty. If there had been an edge, it would’ve been in the spirit of the game. But there wasn’t even a clear decision from the umpire, and he just walked away,” he added.

The incident soon raised eyebrows with many questioning the umpiring standards in the IPL.

Meanwhile, SRH were bundled out for a modest score of 142, thanks to a dominant bowling performance from MI bowlers.

Mumbai Indians reached the target comfortably in 15.4 overs, losing just three wickets in the process. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a blistering 70 off 46 balls, laced with eight fours and three sixes.

The loss marked Sunrisers Hyderabad’s sixth defeat in the IPL, leaving them at the bottom of the table.

WATCH: India batter Ishan Kishan trolls Mohammad Rizwan’s appealing style

India top-order batter Ishan Kishan has mocked the appealing style of Pakistan’s ODI skipper and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan during a conversation with former international umpire Anil Chaudhary.

Anil praised Ishan’s improved appealing style behind the stumps during a candid conversation.

Anil Chaudhary shared a video of the conversation on his Instagram account in which he questioned about change in Ishan Kishan’s appealing style.

“You played so many games under my umpiring. You have grown up now. You also appeal when required. Earlier, you used to appeal a lot. How did this change come?” Chaudhary asked.

In reply, Kishan stated that he had learned from past experiences while mocking Mohammad Rizwan’s appealing style.

“I think umpires have become smarter. If we appeal too much, they might start giving out decisions as not out, ” he said.

“It’s better to appeal only when necessary so they trust our calls. Otherwise, if I behave like Rizwan, they might not give it out even when it is, ” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that Anil Chaudhary had previously mocked Mohammad Rizwan’s appealing style.

Chaudhary described him as someone who appeals often, sometimes unnecessarily, which creates issues for the on-field umpires.

“He appeals a lot. I even told my fellow umpire to stay aware. Har ball pe chillata hai (He keeps shouting on every ball). Isn’t he the one who puts something like a lipstick? He keeps jumping like a pigeon, ” he remarked.

The left-hand batter also commented about umpiring and the room for improvement in decision-making.

“To be very honest, there are certain umpires we are happy to see officiating in matches. However, there is always room for improvement. I feel that the new umpires coming in should be more confident while making decisions,” he explained.

“They should not overthink the consequences, but if they believe a batter is out, they should make the call without being influenced by appeals or other factors, ” he further remarked.

Ishan Kishan, who has been out of the Indian team since 2023, had a spectacular start in the IPL with a blazing 106 off 47 deliveries, leading his new franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, to victory.

This was Kishan’s first century in the IPL, after playing 105 matches. The 26-year-old was previously part of Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2024.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan help India thrash Australia to go 2-0 up

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan led the batting charge for India to set up a convincing 44-run win over Australia in the second Twenty20 international on Sunday.

Jaiswal smashed a 25-ball 53 and fellow left-hander Kishan hit 52 off 32 deliveries to help India to 235-4 after being invited to bat first by Australia in Thiruvananthapuram.

Spinner Ravi Bishnoi and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna took three wickets each as the hosts kept Australia down to 191-9 and extended their lead to 2-0 in the five-match series.

Indian batters ruled as Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the foundations for India’s mammoth total with key contributions from fellow opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made 58, and Rinku Singh’s unbeaten nine-ball 31.

“The boys are not putting too much pressure on me. They are taking onus,” India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who won his second successive match as national captain, said.

“I told them (players) before, be prepared to bat first. There was a lot of dew. We talked to defend it later.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal was named man of the match and said, “It was really special for me. I was trying to play all my shots. Was trying to be fearless. I was sure of my decisions.”

Jaiswal, who smashed nine fours and two sixes, raced to his fifty in 24 balls but soon fell to fast bowler Nathan Ellis, who got three wickets.

Ishan Kishan, a wicketkeeper-batsman, raised his fifty with a six off leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha before he got out to Marcus Stoinis.

But the left-handed Rinku Singh finished off the innings with a flurry of boundaries and sixes.

In reply, Australia fell to 58-4 including Steve Smith (19), previous-match centurion Josh Inglis (two) and Glenn Maxwell (12) back in the dug-out.

Tim David, who smashed 37, and Stoinis, who hit 45 off 25 balls, attempted to hit back in their partnership of 81 as the two hit six fours and six sixes between them.

Bishnoi broke the stand with his leg-spin to dismiss David who mistimed a hit to long-on.

Stoinis was the next to go as the wheels came off the chase and Krishna got two more to nearly end the batting team’s hopes.

Skipper Matthew Wade struck an unbeaten 42 off 23 balls to reduce the margin of loss for Australia, who last week lost the opener four days after being crowned champions of the ODI World Cup.

“We’re making the right decisions but aren’t executing in the right moments,” Australia coach Andre Borovec said.

The third T20 is on Tuesday in Guwahati.

Ishan Kishan aims to win ICC World Cup 2023

Ishan Kishan was often compared to M.S. Dhoni as a flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter, but the Indian player has carved out his own identity ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Kishan, 25, has an ODI best of 210 in 25 matches, but a recent 82 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup won him rich praise from the cricketing fraternity including former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar who called him a “big match player”.

Ishan Kishan was 13 when India last won the World Cup in 2011 under Dhoni, who hit the winning six against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Twelve years later Kishan, an attacking left-hand batsman, is part of the Rohit Sharma-led team, which will look to win the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy at home at the tournament that opens October 5.

“As an individual, as a sportsperson, I think everyone wants to win the World Cup for their country because that is the most important stage in our life, where we go and everything is at stake– and you just play the game,” Ishan Kishan told AFP.

“Pressure is there, expectation is there and still you have to perform well, so that is something I want to do. I have thought a lot about winning this World Cup.”

He said his dream would be fulfilled if India win the World Cup and he ends up playing a “crucial role” in the triumph.

Kishan’s knock against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup had glimpses of Dhoni’s grit as he lifted India from a precarious 66-4 to 266 all out in a match that was ultimately washed out.

The fans labelled him a “pocket dynamite” since his early days as a swashbuckling batsman, but former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said he has a different side to him as well.

“The way he kept his composure and the way he handled pressure against Pakistan showed he’s not just somebody who goes out there and plays his shots freely, but somebody who applies his mind, reads the situation and plays accordingly,” Gavaskar told India Today.

“The temperament he showed in that game shows he has a bright future ahead of him.”

It was an Indian Premier League stint with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions that opened new doors for the dashing batsman.

He was soon picked up by IPL giants Mumbai Indians and repaid the faith by playing a key part with 516 runs in the team’s fifth title in 2020.

Mumbai, owned by Nita Ambani — wife of India’s richest man, Reliance Industries billionaire Mukesh Ambani — released Kishan the next year, only to buy him back in the 2022 auction for a whopping $2 million.

“When I played for Mumbai Indians, my game changed, I changed as a person. I started looking at things in a different way where I have to do well under pressure,” said Kishan.

“In pressure situations, I wanted to do well and perform well, so Mumbai Indians has helped me a lot and many more youngsters like me.”

Ishan Kishan, who stands 5 feet and 6 inches (1.68 metres) tall, made his India debut in T20 and one-day internationals and hit fifties in both outings.

A self-confessed Sachin Tendulkar fan, Kishan started young on a cricket field alongside his elder brother to fulfil the unfinished dreams of their father.

Kishan’s father, who wanted to pursue the game professionally but failed after being denied regular outdoor sessions by his grandparents, pinned his hopes on his oldest son but it was Ishan Kishan who shone.

He made his mark in the state-side and then became the captain of India Under-19, learning the ropes of the game under the watchful eyes of India A coach Rahul Dravid, who now coaches the senior team.

Ishan Kishan’s older brother sacrificed his career for a more talented sibling and Kishan is always grateful.

“I put more pressure on myself that I have to do well, as my brother is not playing because of me,” he said. “That’s how it started.”

India call up Ishan Kishan to replace KL Rahul in WTC final squad

India named Ishan Kishan as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in June.

Rahul, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, suffered a thigh injury while fielding during the Indian Premier League match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.

He had been sidelined for the rest of the IPL and the upcoming mega clash for Test supremacy.

Rahul’s replacement Kishan is uncapped in red-ball format but has featured in 14 ODIs and 27 T20Is for India.

The inclusion of the left-hander gives India an extra wicket-keeping option apart from KS Bharat, who only made his debut earlier this year against Australia in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Rahul’s injury is not the only concern for India ahead of the WTC final since pacers Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav are also being closely monitored by the Indian medical staff.

The left-arm pacer Unadkat sustained a left shoulder injury in the nets during the IPL and is currently undergoing strength and rehab sessions.

The decision on his availability for the WTC23 final will be taken later, according to a BCCI statement.

Similarly, Yadav also suffered a minor left hamstring injury while playing for KKR in the IPL and is currently being monitored by the medical team.

India have also named three reserve players for the final with Ruturaj Gaikwad, the backup opener to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav, the middle-order batter, taking up two of those spots.

Mukesh Kumar, who has previously been with the Test squad, but is yet to make his debut for India, filled the third spot as a standby seamer.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (capt.), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk)
Standby players: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav

Kishan double ton, Kohli 113 fire India to 409 in Bangladesh ODI

CHITTAGONG: Ishan Kishan hit the quickest-ever double century in one-day internationals in 126 balls as he demolished the Bangladesh bowling alongside Virat Kohli to lead India to 409-8 in the third match on Saturday.

The left-handed Kishan, who made the team in the absence of injured skipper Rohit Sharma, made full use of the opportunity in Chittagong with his 210 coming off 131 balls including 24 fours and 10 sixes.

He and Kohli, who made 113, put on 290 runs for the second wicket — the seventh highest partnership in ODI history.

India’s 409 was their fourth-highest ODI score and the highest-ever total against Bangladesh by any team as the tourists looked for a consolation win — the hosts won the first two matches to secure the series.

Bangladesh will need a record total of their own if they are to secure a third win — they have never scored more than 333 in an ODI.

Kishan raised his maiden ODI hundred with a four as he let out a scream, and kept up the charge to convert into a double ton off Mustafizur Rahman as he and Kohli danced in the field.

Kishan is only the fourth Indian batsman to score an ODI double ton after Rohit — who has done so three times — Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

India lost Shikhar Dhawan for three in the fifth over after being invited to bat first, but Kishan hit back with a string of boundaries and took control of the innings with Kohli.

Kohli was dropped on one by skipper Liton Das, who spilled an easy catch at mid-wicket, and soon got into his groove but remained happy to play second fiddle to the attacking Kishan.

Kishan finally fell to a well-judged catch in the deep by Liton off Taskin Ahmed as he walked back to a standing ovation.

Star batsman and former captain Kohli hit Ebadot Hossain for six to register his first ODI century since August 2019 off 85 balls.

It took his century count in all three formats to 72, surpassing former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting.

Tendulkar remains top with 100 international tons in a stellar career that ended in 2013.

India lost quick wickets including stand-in skipper K.L. Rahul for eight and Kohli in the space of three balls, but Washington Sundar’s quickfire 37 led the visitors past 400.
