Pakistan’s Altaf-ur-Rehman wins bronze medal in Islamic Games 2022

KONYA: Pakistan’s differently abled athlete Altaf-ur-Rehman bagged a bronze medal in para table tennis in the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games 2022, here on Monday.

The inspirational feat by Altaf earned the country its second medal in the event as earlier national athlete Arshad Nadeem claimed gold in the javelin throw competition on Friday.

“I am very grateful to all those who supported me and prayed for my victory,” said Altaf in a video message as he extended gratitude to his family, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Pakistan and his coach.

Three athletes ruled out as Pakistan off to a dismal start in Islamic Games

KONYA: Pakistan athletes remained unable to shine on the opening day of the Islamic Solidarity Games 2022 as three participants have been ruled out of the medal race.

As the fifth edition of the Islamic Games kick-started on August 8th, a number of Pakistan athletes remained unable to leave their mark as they struggled in various athletics events.

National athlete Ahmed Randhawa, who competed in the 400m hurdle race, could not perform well and has been crashed out of the medal race. Whereas sprinter Arooj Kiran finished last in the 100m sprint, thus, failed to make it to the next round.

National athlete Jamshed Ali, who earned direct qualification to the Commonwealth Games Shot-put final, finished ninth in the opening round of the Islamic Games, resulting in him crashing out of the medal expedition.

Shajar Abbas and Abdul Mueed Baloch, on the other hand, managed to storm into the semi-finals of 100m and 400m heats respectively, and are the major medal hopes for Pakistan in the ongoing event.

Pakistan Table Tennis team to depart for Islamic Games on August 5

KARACHI: National Table Tennis will depart for Turkey on August 5 to partake in the forthcoming Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled to commence on August 9.

The national table tennis contingent, which comprised four players including Hoor Fawad, Haiqa Hassan, Fawad Khawaja, and Taimur Khan, will depart for Konya on the morning of August 5.

Coach Aijaz Ali and manager Yasrab Shah will accompany the participating players throughout the international event.

In a bid to perform well in the event, national players Hoor and Haiqa are busy training at the Islamia Club here.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Islamic Games will take place in Konya, Turkey from August 9 to August 18.
