Following the victory, Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the whole team on their dominant performance and attributed the victory to combined efforts.

“The success in a home Test match after a long time has been attributed to teamwork,” said Naqvi. “The team exhibited hard work, passion and a professional approach to achieve this victory.”

Naqvi also lauded spin bowlers Sajid Khan and Noman Ali as well as debutant Kamran Ghulam for their impressive performances.

“Sajid Khan and Noman Ali played an important role in the victory with their brilliant bowling,” he added. “Kamran Ghulam already showed his full potential by scoring a century in his debut match.”

It’s worth noting that Noman and Sajid took eleven and nine wickets respectively, becoming only the second Pakistani pair to share 20 wickets in a Test match.

Meanwhile, Kamran Ghulam, who replaced Babar Azam in the team, played a gutsy knock of 118 runs in Pakistan’s first innings.

Mohsin Naqvi also expressed hope that the team will continue their good performance and win the series against England.

“The new players in the team justified their selection. I hope that the team will perform well in the last test match against England and win the series,” he concluded.

It’s worth noting that the final Test between Pakistan and England will be played from 24-28 October in Rawalpindi.

Joe Root could break 16,000-run barrier in Test cricket: Alastair Cook

Former England captain Alastair Cook on Wednesday hailed fellow countryman Joe Root as a “generational talent” and expressed belief that the right-hander could become the first batter to reach 16,000 Test runs.

Root, 33, overtook Cook’s record England tally of 12,472 runs in the first Test of the ongoing series in Pakistan, in which the Yorkshireman scored a mammoth 262.

He is now fifth on the all-time list of runscorers behind Sachin Tendulkar, who leads the way with 15,921, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid, all of whom have retired.

“I think Joe Root could set a mark, certainly on the English side, which will be very hard to beat,” said Cook, who retired from Test cricket in 2018 with a century in his final innings.

“But you just never know. I hope he can get very close, if not be the first person to score 16,000 Test runs. It would be a great achievement but it’s a fair way off yet.”

Alastair Cook, 39, said even in a fast-changing landscape, with Test cricket competing for calendar space alongside the white-ball game, it was difficult to say records would stand forever.

“Everyone looked to that Tendulkar record of 200 Test matches and I think quite a few people said, ‘Well, that’s never going to be done’.

“And you’ve got a fast bowler who has played 188 Test matches and taken more than 700 wickets (retired England quick James Anderson).

“So I know the game is changing, the landscape is changing. But something always crops up, someone always does.”

Cook said it was difficult to separate the so-called “Big Four” of Root, India’s Virat Kohli, Steve Smith of Australia and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

“They’re all wonderful, wonderful players, all very different actually in terms of their methods and ways of playing,” he said.

“But one thing which kind of unites them is that hunger and desire to keep improving and keep churning out the runs.

“They are generational players who will always be spoken about, and the fact that you can add Joe Root, whether you put him first, second, third, fourth, all personal opinion, it doesn’t really matter.

“But they are great, great players and make the game, the kind of one which we all started playing, look a lot easier than it is.”

Alastair Cook on Wednesday became the 113th payer to be inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame, joining alongside retired India spinner Neetu David, a star of the women’s game, and South African multi-format great AB de Villiers.

“It was a surprise,” said the former England skipper. “When you read the list of people that you’re joining, it’s a great list to have joined. So I feel very privileged.”

Cook paid a warm tribute to former England captain Graham Gooch, a predecessor at his county side, Essex.

“A lot of people know about my relationship with Graham Gooch, Essex and England opener and kind of mentor, friend, coach, you name it,” he said.

“He’s kind of done everything for me. So it’s just we never played on the same team. I thank God, probably. Thank goodness, because he was obviously a far better player than me.”

Nasser Hussain compares Kamran Ghulam to Steve Smith after debut century

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has heaped high praise on Pakistan’s middle-order batter Kamran Ghulam after he scored a century on his Test debut and compared him to Australian batting maestro Steve Smith.

Kamran was included in Pakistan’s Playing XI for the second Test in place of star batter Babar Azam and he made an immediate impact with a century on his debut.

He came into bat with Pakistan struggling at 19-2 inside ten overs and helped the team recover with a 149-run stand with Saim Ayub for the third wicket.

The right-hander played a defiant knock of 118 runs from 224 balls, laced with eleven boundaries and one six before falling prey to Shoaib Bashir.

Nasser Hussain appreciated Kamran after the conclusion of the first day while speaking on Sky Cricket. The former England captain praised the maturity of Kamran’s innings, during which he played both aggressively and defensively according to the balls.

Follow us on our Official WhatsApp channel

“He had to wait his turn. He’s been scoring prolific runs in the last three years. He got the right balance between attack and defence. They lost a couple of early wickets – on debut you want to get out there and that will have helped him,” Nasser said.

He went ahead and praised Kamran’s confidence and attitude, drawing a comparison with Steve Smith.

“Pakistan players generally love the sweep shot, he’s got that in his locker. He used his feet as well. He’s got a bit of Steve Smith about him when he defends the ball and charges. He’s got a bit of swagger about him,” he added.

With his maiden Test century, Kamran Ghulam became the 13th player from Pakistan to cross the three-figure on debut.

The last Pakistani player to achieve this feat was Abid Ali, who scored a century against Sri Lanka in December 2019.

Pakistan players to score Test century on debut

  1. Khalid Ibadulla vs Australia — 1964
  2. Javed Miandad vs New Zealand — 1976
  3. Saleem Malik vs Sri Lanka — 1982
  4. Mohammad Wasim vs New Zealand — 1996
  5. Ali Naqvi vs South Africa — 1997
  6. Azhar Mahmood vs South Africa — 1997
  7. Younis Khan vs Sri Lanka — 2000
  8. Taufeeq Umar vs Bangladesh — 2001
  9. Yasir Hameed vs Bangladesh — 2003
  10. Fawad Alam vs Sri Lanka — 2009
  11. Umar Akmal vs New Zealand — 2009
  12. Abid Ali vs Sri Lanka — 2019
  13. Kamran Ghulam vs England — 2024

It’s worth noting that Kamran is only the second Pakistani player to score a hundred on Test debut while batting at number four. Prior to him, Saleem Malik achieved this feat in 1982.
