Chamari, Madavi star as Sri Lanka thump Pakistan by 93 runs in third ODI

KARACHI: Sri Lanka women’s team skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s outstanding century knock coupled with left-handed batter Harshitha Madavi’s 75 runs inning steered Sri Lanka to a comprehensive victory against Pakistan by 93 runs in a dead rubber final ODI to finish 2-1 in the series, here at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan’s opening pair put up a cautious start in their attempt to chase the mammoth target of 261 runs mounted by Sri Lanka in the first inning. The top order underwent a complete collapse soon after the first wicket fell in the 8th over as skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who continued her magic with the ball after scoring a ton, dismissed Sidra Ameen in a leg-before wicket at the total of 41.

The next three wickets fell in quick succession as Pakistan were struggling at 48/4 in the 12th over before right-handed batter Omaima Sohail and all-rounder Aliya Riaz braced the team for some time with a 64 runs partnership.

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Sugandhika Kumari was able to get rid of the pair in the 28th over as she bowled out Omaima, who scored 40 runs off 61 balls including 4 scintillating boundaries.

The momentum shifted back to the touring side as the green shirts were all out on 167 in the 42nd over, losing the wickets at regular intervals. Aliya remained the top scorer for the team as she minted out 56 runs in 82 balls including four boundaries.

Earlier, Sri Lanka decided to bat first after winning the toss. The team had a shaky start as they lost two early wickets on a total of just four runs. However, the skipper and Madavi built a 152-runs outstanding partnership on the 3rd wicket to cement their team’s position in the match.

The Sri Lankan skipper scored a brilliant century before she fell prey to left-arm spinner Anum Amin in the 31st over in a leg-before wicket. Chamari made 101 runs off 85 balls which included 13 fours and a six.

Dilhari soon followed the suit and fell prey to right-arm spinner Omaima Sohail in the 45th over at the total of 220, after scoring 28 runs off 44 balls, including two boundaries.

Right-handed batter Nilakshi De Silva played a superb cameo of 24 runs off 18 balls as she hit two boundaries and remained not out, helping her team to finish 260/7 in the 50 overs.

Records tumble as Pakistan thump Sri Lanka at the back of Sidra’s ton

KARACHI: Various records tumbled during the second ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as the Green Shirts defeated Sri Lanka by 73 runs on the back of a brilliant century of Sidra Ameen.

Pakistan’s in-form batter, Sidra, who shone in the second ODI with a brilliant century knock of 123 runs, registered herself in various records.

With her two centuries in Women’s ODIs, Sidra has become just the second Pakistani batter to score two centuries in the format. The batting all-rounder Javeria Khan was the first to achieve this feat.

Furthermore, Sidra’s 123 in the recently-concluded second ODI, is the second-highest individual score by a Pakistani batter in Women’s ODIs, just behind Javeria Khan’s 133, who scored the highest individual score by a Pakistani batter in 2014. Both the batters scored big against Sri Lanka.

Sidra and her opening partner Muneeba Ali, as a pair too, were splendid as they claimed two records with their astounding 158 runs opening partnership in the second ODI.

With their 158 runs opening partnership, Sidra and Muneeba registered the first century-plus opening stand for Pakistan in Women’s ODIs. Their astonishing partnership is also the second-best overall stand for Pakistan in ODIs. Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar’s 181-run partnership against Ireland in 2013 is the highest overall for the side.

Pakistan captain Bismah, on the other hand, also achieved a milestone in her anchoring knock of 36 as she surpassed Javeria to become the country’s leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs.

It is apropos to mention here that Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 73 runs in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series. Green shirts’ opening batters Sidra and Muneeba shone with a century and a fifty respectively, while the right-arm pacer Fatima Sana wreaked havoc over the Sri Lankan batting lineup with the ball; taking four wickets for a mere 26 runs.

Fatima, Sidra star as Pakistan take an unassailable 2-0 lead in ODI series

KARACHI: Opening batter Sidra Ameen’s ton coupled with right-arm pacer Fatima Sana’s brilliance with the ball led Pakistan to a comprehensive victory over Sri Lanka by 73 runs in the second ODI of the three-match ODI series, claiming the series 2-0, here at Southend Club Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka fell short in their chase for 254 runs and managed to score only 180 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Harshita Madavi remained the top scorer for her side minting 41 runs off 48 balls.

Pakistan’s right-arm pacer Fatima stormed through the Sri Lankan batting line and claimed four wickets.

Sri Lanka made a promising start to their chase and managed to score 151/5 before the right-arm spinner Omaima Sohail broke the strong-looking partnership of 61 runs between Kavisha Dilha and Madhvani in the 39th over.

The Sri Lankan camp underwent panic mode as it lost four quick wickets in just 7 overs. The rest of the team could only add 29 runs into the total.

Pakistan, after opting to bat first after winning the toss, the opening pair of Sidra and Muneeba Ali completely dislodged the Sri Lankan bowling attack and made a firm stand of 152 runs before the right-arm medium pacer Oshadi Ranasinghe sent the latter to the pavilion in the 36th over. Muneeba made 56 off 100 which included three boundaries.

Sidra, on the hand, continued with her inspiring knock and made another magnificent partnership with Pakistan’s skipper Bismah Maroof of 78 runs. She was dismissed by Kavisha Dilhari in the 48th over after scoring her career-best 128 runs as the ball crossed the ropes 11 times through her bat.

Bismah and all-rounder Nida Dar then wrapped up the innings for Pakistan as the skipper remained not-out 36 runs off 43 balls while Nida remained unbeaten with her 10.

Sri Lankan bowlers, on the other hand, failed to crack through the solid batting of the Pakistan women’s team. Apart from Dilhari and Ranasinghe, no other bowler managed to get a wicket.

Pakistan has comprehensively won the three-match series after today’s win. The dead rubber third ODI will be played on June 5.
