Karachi Kings to face Peshawar Zalmi in ‘must-win’ encounter
Defending champions Karachi Kings and 2017 title champions Peshawar Zalmi will take on each other in the 24th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six later today.
The tournament is becoming interesting after Karachi Kings, unfortunately, lost the last two games while Multan Sultans bagged two consecutive wins. Peshawar Zalmi also looks to pose a fight back and this makes the fight for the third and fourth qualification place quite interesting indeed.
Karachi Kings posted a massive total of 190 but still could not win the match. Their bowling has struggled in Abu Dhabi will their fielding has been unsatisfying too.
Read: Munro, Iftikhar help Islamabad United beat Karachi Kings by eight wickets
The strength lies in their batting and the form of Babar Azam as he just keeps on scoring runs, no matter what the situation or who the opponent is. He is now the highest run-getter of the ongoing season.
Meanwhile, Martin Guptill is struggling in the slow conditions and although Najibullah played very well, the Kings expect the same in today’s match.
The lack of form of Mohammad Amir is starting to hurt the Karachi Kings. Imad Wasim has also out of the groove. Waqas Maqsood bowled well and Arshad Iqbal showed promise but both of them end up giving away too many loose deliveries.
Kings need a strong fightback especially from bowlers and having experienced campaigners, the comeback is definitely on the cards.
On the other hand, Zalmi has been struggling in their batting department from the start of second-leg. Shoaib Malik has been getting out early in the last two games, Kamran Akmal is not able to convert his starts and Haider Ali has struggled to play freely as well.
After the departure of David Miller, the department has suffered a major setback. They can took out positive from Sherfane Rutherford, who played a brilliant knock against Sultans on Sunday.
The bowling has been quite good even though they failed to pick up important wickets in the previous match. Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Imran, and Umaid Asif form yet another excellent bowling lineup. It really is amazing the quality of fast-bowling in Pakistan, as cliched as it may be to say it.
We have not seen Peshawar Zalmi play to its potential so far and whether that will change in this match is the big question.

It must be noted Peshawar Zalmi are scheduled to take on defending champions Karachi Kings at 11.00 pm.

Quetta Gladiators seek redemption vs Lahore Qalandars for poor PSL 6 run
Season six of Pakistan Super League (PSL) is heading at the back-end. The result of every match will be crucial for the team going into the playoffs round.
The competition will witness a double-header today where Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars lock horns at 6.00 pm today.
Quetta Gladiators, 2019 PSL winners are struggling to find a win in the second leg and are at the bottom of the table with two points in seven matches. It’s quite difficult for them to qualify for the next round, however, they can still hurt the chances of other teams that are still in with a chance.

They may be without their key players due to concussions. Andre Russell was ruled out while Faf du Plessis had a similar kind of blow while fielding and is still unwell.
Without their key stalwarts, they are certainly a lot less side than they were during the start of the second leg. Besides, they are coming off two humiliating losses in their last two matches and will certainly not be high on confidence. They would need some individual brilliance to take them home and unless that happens, they are likely to come second-best in the upcoming match.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars are eyeing a comeback after a horrible loss to Islamabad United on Sunday.
They were having a fantatsic run in the tournament until their last match. Even the last game was in their pocket before they allowed Islamabad United to claw back and eventually post a victory.

Qalandars moved to the second position from the top and they will now be desperate to claim back that top of the table position. Their net run rate isn’t something to be proud of and that is another reason why the Qalandars will want to gather as many points as possible.
They have one of the most lethal bowling units amongst all teams in the tournament. The likes of Rashid Khan, James Faulkner, and Shaheen Shah Afridi can be a deadly combination for any team to bat against.
Apart from that, the Qalandars have a decent batting unit that has an excellent amalgamation of swashbuckling batsmen and experience.
They gave away two points to United but the loss might well act as a wake-up call for them. If they continue to perform the way they were doing prior to their last match, the clash against Gladiators would be easy task.
Predicted XIs:
Quetta Gladiators: Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, Cameron Delport, Jake Weatherald, Azam Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C & WK), Mohammad Nawaz, Jake Wildermuth, Mohammad Hasnain, Zahid Mahmood, Zahir Khan
Lahore Qalandars: Sohail Akhtar, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Muhammad Faizan, Tim David, Ben Dunk, Rashid Khan, James Faulkner, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Ahmed Daniyal

Strongly lined-up Kings all set to lock horns with table-toppers United
KARACHI: Coming from a defeat in their first match of second Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6’s leg, Karachi Kings now look forward to turning the tables when they meet table-toppers Islamabad United today in Abu Dhabi at 9 pm (PST).
While chasing 177 runs against Multan Sultans, Kings had the wonderful support of Babar Azam in batting but they fell 13 runs short to victory. Babar scored 85 runs but proper momentum seemed lacking in the match which cost them a defeat.
With a loss at the hands of Sultans, the Kings dropped down on the points table and settled at fourth last night with six points in as many matches.
Whereas, United are psychologically strong with a recent win at the back against Lahore Qalandars the other day. The fire-power from Asif Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed held Qalandars’ bowlers busy in the ground.

Opening Combination
Both the teams have their top-order stable. Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan will be lethal for Kings as they hold the record of highest opening partnership in PSL. They scored 176 runs against the same team in the first leg of PSL 6.
Whilst, United will be having strong combination of openers Colin Munro and Usman Khuwaja who led their team to a 10-wickets victory against Quetta Gladiators and a top spot on the leaders’ table.
Munro was phenomenal with his 90-not-out with the help of five sixes and 12 boundaries whereas Usman anchored a quick 40 off 27 laced with six boundaries and a six. The duo helped their team chase 134 runs in just 10 overs.

Middle-order batting
Martin Guptill is a potent addition to Kings’ batting order and he can be as supportive for middle-order as for top-order. The Kiwi batsman is known for his hard-hitting in power-play and even in middle-overs.
He will be joined by Afghanistan’s power-hitter Najibullah Zadran and West Indian Chadwick Walton who can give a handy option to Kings. Thisara Perera, Imad Wasim, and Qasim Akram are fruitful options for Kings to race the score in the end.
United will be joined by Shadab Khan, Rohail Nazir, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Asif Ali in the middle-order. These batsmen are equally capable of scoring runs and putting their team in the driving seat.
Asif and Iftikhar have gained form finally against Qalandars the other day which would be a confidence booster for two-time PSL champions.

Bowling Combination
Mohammad Amir will lead the pace attack of Kings with the likes of Arshad Iqbal, Thisara Perera, and Waqas Maqsood. If they bring in Aamir Yamin, he can be a good bowling option for the team. Qasim Akram and Imad Wasim are the two liable options in spin bowling.
Hasan Ali will be joined by Mohammad Waseem Jr, Muhammad Musa, and Akif Javed in United’s pace battery, backed up by regular leg-spinner Shadab Khan and part-timer Iftikhar Ahmed.
Head-to-Head
United had won the first game in this year’s PSL against Kings. However, the overall record also keeps United ahead of Kings. Both teams faced each other in 14 PSL contests so far, United have won nine whereas Kings have won 6.

“I was going through a personal family issue, which has been resolved thanks to my wonderful wife. She has assured me to take care of the issue and wants me to concentrate on my cricket and career. After consulting her, I have decided to stay on with Islamabad United for the remaining PSL 6,” he said.

Iftikhar Ahmed’s innings folded in the last over when he tried to clear the rope. With the help of six fours, he made 49 off 37 balls.

The above-mentioned players will fly to the Caribbean as South Africa and West Indies are scheduled to play five-match T20I series, starting from June 26.
On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators’ Andre Russell and Multan Sultans’ Shimron Hetmyer will also leave their respective sides.
