LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday revealed the squad for the upcoming ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025.

The Women’s National Selection Committee named a 15-member squad that will partake in the 16-team tournament, scheduled in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025.

Wicketkeeper-batter Komal Khan will lead the side, while Zoofishan Ayyaz will be vice-captain of the team.

Pakistan team, which recently featured in six-team ACC U19 Women’s Asia Cup in Malaysia will undergo a training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi from 31 December to 9 January.

The team will depart for Malaysia from Karachi via Dubai on 10 January.

According to the tournament’s format, there are four groups, with each group consisting of four teams.

Pakistan are placed in Group B alongside England, Ireland and the USA. Pakistan will play their opening match on 18 January against the USA.

This will be followed by the encounter against England on 20 January, while Pakistan’s last group match will be against Ireland on 22 January. All three Pakistan matches will be staged at the JCA Oval, Johor in Malaysia.

Following the conclusion of the Group Stage fixtures, three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Six. The bottom-ranked sides from Groups A and D, and B and C will contest in last place play-off on 24 January.

The 12 teams, which will qualify for the Super Six stage will be divided into two groups. Group one will include the top three teams each from Group A and Group D while Group two will have top three teams each from Group B and Group C.

In the Super Six stage every team will carry forward their wins, points and Net Run-rate (NRR) which is secured against their fellow Super Six qualifying teams. Each team will play two games in the Super Six stage.

The top two sides from the two super six stage groups will qualify for the semi-finals. The semi-finals are set to take place on January 31, while the final of the tournament will be played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on 2 February.

Non-travelling reserves: Fizza Fiaz, Laiba Nasir, Manahil Javed, Rozina Akram and Sania Rasheed.

POTCHEFSTROOM: India crowned the inaugural edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World after they sealed a convincing seven-wicket win against England in the final on Sunday. 

India wreaked havoc on England’s batting line as their bowlers bundled out the opponents for a paltry 68-run total before chasing down the target comfortably in 14 overs.

A clinical bowling effort with two wickets each to Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra put India on top after they elected to field first.

In reply, middle-order batters Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha made 24 runs each to help India take a comfortable win in the end following the early dismissal of the dependable opening pair of skipper Shefali Verma and Shweta Sehrawat. 

Sehrawat, who remained the leading run-scorer of the tournament with her exuberant 297 runs coming at a ridiculously-high average of 99, fell cheaply this time off Hannah Baker in the fourth over after making just 5 from 6 balls. 

England found their first breakthrough in the third over when skipper Verma in her bid to finish the proceeding early handed a chance at mid-on which was excellently grabbed by Alexa Stonehouse off Grace Scrivens’ bowling. Verma smashed a couple of boundaries during her brief yet energetic knock of 11-ball 15.

Tiwari and Trisha then led the chase and stitched a solid 46-run partnership before Stonehouse dismissed the latter with only two runs left to defend.

Earlier, India suppressed England’s batting lineup with intermittent jolts that put English batters under constant pressure. With an early wicket of opener Liberty Heap in the very first over, India unleashed an all-out attack which effectively denied any breathing space to opponents batters.

With a 24-ball 19, Ryana MacDonald-Gay top-scored for her side amid a deplorable batting performance from the rest, only three of whom were able to reach double digits.

POTCHEFSTROOM: England bowlers held their nerves calms to defend a paltry total and propelled their side to a thrilling three-run triumph over Australia and booked their spot in the final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Put into bat first, the English batting lineup failed completely and bundled out for a meagre 99 runs in the first innings despite Alexa Stonehouse’s 26.

The side kept losing wickets at regular intervals before eventually getting out in the final over.

England had a deplorable start to their innings but skipper Grace Scrivens attempted to anchor with a cautious 20-run knock before finally perishing in the ninth over.

Following Scrivens’ dismissal, Stonehouse took the charge of England’s expedition and took her side to 95 in the 19th over despite receiving no support from the other end.

The right-handed batter top-scored for her side with a gritty 25 off 33 deliveries and smashed two boundaries.

Sianna Ginger, Ella Hayward and Maggie Clark led the bowling charge for Australia with three wickets each, while Milly Illingworth could take one.

Set to chase a mere 100, Australia fell just three runs short of glory as they were bowled for 96 runs in the penultimate over.

Amy Smith (26) remained the top-scorer for her side in pursuit but failed to power her side over the line as she was dismissed in the 16th over.

Besides Smith, Claire Moore (20) and Hayward (16) remained the notable run-getters for Australia, but in vain.

Hannah Baker was the pick of the bowlers for England with 3/10 while Scrivens followed up with 2/8. Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Josie Groves, Ellie Anderson and Stonehouse, on the other hand, struck out a batter each.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Indian bowlers restricted New Zealand to a measly 107/9 before Shweta Sehrawat powered her side to a thumping eight-wicket victory and into the final of the ongoing ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Put into bat first, the New Zealand batting lineup endured a ruthless attack by the Indian bowlers and could raise 107/9 in their allotted 20 overs despite a fighting 35-run knock by Georgia Plimmer.

The White Ferns had an unwanted start to their innings as the side lost both their openers Anna Browning (1) and Emma McLeod (2) for a combined total of a mere five runs in the third over.

Following the slump, Plimmer stitched a gritty 37-run partnership with Isabella Gaze before the latter perished after a vital 22-ball 26.

New Zealand then began to lose wickets at an alarming rate and soon slipped to 91/7 with Plimmer also walking back in the 17th over.

The right-handed batter top-scored with 35 off 32 deliveries and smashed two boundaries.

Parshavi Chopra led the bowling attack for India with 3/20, while Titas Sadhu, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma and Archana Devi struck out a batter each.

Set to chase 108, India comfortably sailed over in the 15th over with eight wickets to spare.

Opening batter Sehrawat led the charge for India in the pursuit with a magnificent half-century and stitched two vital partnerships with skipper Verma (10) and Soumya Tiwari(22).

Sehrawat remained unbeaten with 61 off just 45 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and steering her side to glory.

For New Zealand, Browning could bag two wickets.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Dominant New Zealand handed a thumping 103-run defeat to put an end to Pakistan’s ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Put into bat first, New Zealand raised a mammoth 178/7 in their allotted 20 overs at the back of a resounding half-century from their top-order batter Georgia Plimmer.

Earlier, the White Ferns’ openers laid a solid foundation for a competitive total with a vital 47-run stand for the first wicket.

Anosha Nasir then handed the green shirts their first breakthrough in the fifth over as she removed Emma McLeod, who scored a quickfire 32 off just 18 deliveries.

Following her dismissal, Plimmer partnered with opener Anna Browning and stitched a 35-run partnership for the second wicket before the latter perished after a cautious knock of 31 off 25 balls.

Plimmer, however, stood firm and kept the scoreboard ticking only receiving brief support from Isabella Gaze (21) and carried her bat till the final over as New Zealand lose wickets at regular intervals.

The right-handed batter top-scored for her side with 53 off 38 deliveries and smashed five boundaries.

Anosha led the bowling attack for Pakistan with 3/32, while Mahnoor Aftab bagged two wickets. Rida Aslam and Syeda Aroob Shah, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Set to chase a massive total of 179, Pakistan’s batting lineup failed completely and could only accumulate 75/7 in their set of overs.

The Green Shirts had a dismal start to their pursuit as half of their side was back in the dugout in just the eighth over with a mere 19 runs on the scoreboard.

Following the slump, Aliza Khan and Areesha Noor attempted to anchor the run chase with a gritty 32-run partnership for the sixth wicket but could not hang on for long as Aliza perished after a fighting 11 in the 17th over.

Areesha remained the top-scorer for her side; scoring 24 off 39 before getting run out in the final over.

For New Zealand, Natasha Codyre bagged two wickets, while Browning and Tash Wakelin struck out a batter each.

Following their thumping defeat against New Zealand, Pakistan ended at the third position in their Super Six points table and thus, failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Pakistan put on an all-round performance to thump Ireland by seven wickets and scripted a winning start to their ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Super Six.

After opting to bat first, Ireland could accumulate 113/7 in their allotted 20 overs at the back of a gritty half-century by Annabel Squires.

Ireland had a frustrating start to their innings as both openers – Rebecca Gough and Joanna Loughran – perished cheaply for a combined score of just 12 in the fourth over.

Following the slump, Squires stood firm and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly as she did not receive any support from the other end.

The right-handed batter remained unbeaten with 55 off 52 deliveries and smashed five boundaries.

Besides Squires, only Zara Craig (17) remained the notable run-getter while no other batter could hold on for long against a disciplined Pakistan bowling attack.

Anosha Nasir and Rida Aslam bagged two wickets each for Pakistan, while Areesha Noor and Mahnoor Aftab struck out a batter apiece.

Set to chase 114, Pakistan comfortably sailed through for the loss of just three wickets with 17 balls to spare; courtesy of a combined effort from their batters.

Openers Shawaal Zulfiqar and Eyman Fatima led a solid foundation for the run chase with a brisk 44-run partnership before both batters perished on consecutive deliveries.

Fatima scored a quick 25 off just 17 balls, while Shawaal struck a 20-ball 18.

Following their departure, skipper Syeda Arooba Shah led from the front with her quickfire knock of 35 and top-scored for her side before walking back to the dugout in the 15th over.

She scored 35 off just 25 deliveries and hit four boundaries.

Following Aroob’s dismissal, Warda Yousaf (24*) stitched an unbeaten 17-run partnership with Laiba Nasir (7*) and led her side to glory.

For Ireland, Zara, Freya Sargent and Georgina Dempsey struck out a batter each.

POTCHEFSTROOM: England’s skipper Grace Scrivens struck a quickfire 93 to power her side to a mammoth 207/2 before bowlers propelled them to a resounding 121-run victory over Ireland in the Super Six clash of the ongoing ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

After opting to bat first, England raised a massive 207/2 at the back of a combined brilliance of their top four batters with skipper Scrivens leading the way with a brisk 93.

Earlier, English openers gave their side a flying start as they stitched a magnificent 136-run partnership for the first wicket inside 13 overs before Aimee Maguire castled Liberty Heap to provide her side with a much-needed breakthrough.

Heap fell eight short of her half-century as she scored 42 off 29 balls and smashed seven boundaries.

Following Heap’s departure, Scrivens stitched a brief partnership for England as she added 22 runs for the second wicket with Niamh Holland before falling to Freya Sargent in the 16th over.

She top-scored for England with 93 off just 56 balls, hitting 15 boundaries and two sixes.

Besides the openers, top-order batter Holland (34*) and wicketkeeper batter Seren Smale (30*) also made significant contributions and made sure their side surpassed the 200-run mark.

For Ireland, only Maguire and Sargent could pick up a wicket.

Set to chase a mammoth 208, the Irish batting lineup failed completely and bundled out for a mere 86 in response.

Middle-order batter Abbi Harrison offered a brief fightback with her gritty 16-run knock and top-scored for her side.

Besides Harrison, only Maguire (14) and skipper Siuin Woods (13) could breach the double figures as the rest of the Irish batters failed against a strong English bowling attack.

Hannah Baker and Sophia Smale led the way for England with the ball as they both took three wickets each, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Scrivens made one scalp apiece.

Meanwhile, in another Super Six clash, New Zealand edged Rwanda by four wickets to script a winning start to the second phase of their campaign.

BENONI: Indonesia’s Ni Luh Dewi shone with an all-round performance to aid in her side’s triumph over Zimbabwe in the position playoff of the ongoing ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

After opting to bat first, Zimbabwe could only amass 86/8 in their set of 20 overs as none of their batters could score big in the position match.

Lower-order batter Tawananyasha Marumani and Danielle Meikle top-scored for the side with 20 each, while only two batters could amass double figures beside them.

Luh Dewi starred with the ball for Indonesia as she bagged a five-wicket haul for just 18 runs, while Ni Ariani bagged two wickets.

Set to chase a paltry 87, Indonesia completed the pursuit in 18 overs for the cost of seven wickets with some contributions from Thersiana Weo and skipper Luh Dewi as both remained the joint top-scorer with 14 runs each.

Chipo Moyo and Kelis Ndhlovu took three wickets each, while Danielle Meikle struck out a batter.

Meanwhile, in another position playoff, Scotland thrashed the United States of America (USA) by five wickets.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Pakistan bowlers displayed a combined effort to halt Zimbabwe to 97/6 before openers Eyman Fatima and Shawaal Zulfiqar led the side to a perfect 10-wicket victory to book their spot in the Super Six.

After opting to bat first, Zimbabwe endured a ruthless bowling attack from Pakistan and thus, could only amass 97/6 in their allotted 20 Overs.

Amid a dismal display with the bat, Zimbabwean captain Kelis Ndhlovu put on a brave fight with a 35-ball 42 while the rest of the batters could not contribute significantly to the total.

Anosha Nasir was the pick of the bowlers for the Green Shirts as she picked up 2/21 while Areesha Noor and Laiba Nasir struck out a batter each.

Set to chase a mere 98, Pakistan openers scripted a perfect run chase as they completed the pursuit with a match-winning 100-run partnership.

Eyman remained the core aggressor of the unbeaten partnership as she struck a quickfire half-century before finishing on 62 not out in just 35 balls, hitting a dozen boundaries including two sixes.

Meanwhile, her companion Shawaal played an anchoring 32-run knock and made sure a perfect run chase for Pakistan.

Following this victory, Pakistan stormed into the Super Six of the inaugural mega event.

In the Group C fixture, New Zealand outclassed West Indies by 10 wickets to finish on top of the standings, while West Indies held on to the second spot.

Putting West Indies into bat first, the White Ferns’ bowlers wreaked havoc over the Caribbean batting lineup and bundled them out for a paltry 68 in the final over.

Kate Chandler led the Kiwis’ bowling attack with 3/8, while Abigail Hotton and Olivia Anderson bagged two wickets each.

Set to chase 69, New Zealand eased through a 10-wicket victory; courtesy of a magnificent partnership between their openers.

Georgia Plimmer top scored for the side with 41 off 22 balls while Anna Browning was equally impressive with her 28 off 22 deliveries.

POTCHEFSTROOM: England crushed Rwanda by a staggering margin of 139 runs as they bowled out the weak side for a paltry 45-run total in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, here on Thursday.

Electing to bat first, openers Grace Scrivens and Liberty Heap dominated Rwanda bowlers with a magnificent first wicket stand of 124 runs and steered the English side to a mammoth total of 185 runs for the loss of five wickets. 

Skipper Scrivens played a fine knock of 51 from 43 balls while Heap blasted 64 off 35, laced with 12 boundaries, to drift England in command. 

Rwanda, however, underwent a nightmarish batting collapse during the chase as none of their batters crossed the single-digit except for Henriette Ishimwe, who made 12. 

England unfolded the carnage thanks to two wickets each for Alexa Stonehouse, Hannah Baker, Ryana MacDonald-Gay, and Davina Perrin.

With their third consecutive win in Group B, England confirmed their place in the Super six stage of the tournament, where three teams from each group will qualify.

Meanwhile, in a Group C fixture held simultaneously on Thursday, Ireland beat Indonesia by 49 runs thanks to a brilliant all-round performance from Zara Craig, who scored a half-century before pocketing two wickets.  

Craig made an unbeaten 52 from 45 balls while Dempsey scored 50 off 38 to help Ireland raise 156/5 after they opted to bat first. Indonesia, in reply, managed only 107/8 in the allotted 20 overs.
