Gull Feroza steers Pakistan Women to ten-wicket victory against UAE

DAMBULLA: Gull Feroza played a composed knock, following a combined bowling effort to lead Pakistan to a ten-wicket victory against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024 match on Tuesday.

Pakistan women’s team restricted UAE to a meagre 103-8 in the first innings and chased the target down in 14.1 overs without losing a wicket.

Feroza started her innings with a four off the second delivery and carried the chase with the support of her opening partner Muneeba Ali.

UAE bowlers did not pose any threat throughout the innings, while Pakistan batters also remained calm and easily chased the total without taking any undue risks.

Feroza earned the man of the match award for her 62-run knock from 55 balls with eight boundaries, while Muneeba scored 37 off 30.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Nida Dar invited UAE to bat first and Nashra Sandhu provided them with the first breakthrough in 6.5 overs.

Theertha Satish played a stable innings of 40 runs from 36 balls with the help of five boundaries, however, she could not get any support from the other end.

Tuba Hassan bowled Satish in the 15th over with 74 runs on the board. UAE kept losing wickets and managed to score 103-8 in their 20 overs.

Other than Satish, only Esha Oza (16) and Khushi Sharma (12) managed to reach double figures. For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu and Tuba Hassan picked two wickets each.

Nabi’s blitz in vain as UAE edge Afghanistan in second T20I

SHARJAH: Mohammad Nabi’s blistering 47 went in vain as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) edged Afghanistan by 11 runs in the second T20I here on Sunday.

The host team’s bowlers Muhammad Jawadullah and Ali Naseer bowled Afghanistan for 155 in pursuit of 167 to register an 11-run victory and level the series 1-1.

UAE got off to a flying start after opting to bat first as their captain Muhammad Waseem and Aryan Lakra raised a brilliant 72-run opening stand.

Qais Ahmed put the brakes on their progress with the wicket of Waseem, who departed after a quick innings of 53 runs from 32 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes.

Afghanistan bowlers capitalized after the first wicket as UAE slipped from 72-1 to 127-7, with Lakra standing firm amidst falling wickets on the other end.

Akif Raja joined Lakra at the fall of the seventh wicket in the 17th over and together they added 39 runs from 19 balls to push UAE’s total to 166-7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Aryan Lakra scored an unbeaten 63 off 47, with the help of three boundaries and four sixes, while Akif Raja scored 13 off 11 with two boundaries.

Qais Ahmed and Azmatullah Omarzai picked two wickets for Afghanistan, while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mohammad Nabi grabbed one scalp each.

In response, Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz laid the foundation for Afghanistan with a 47-run opening stand which was broken by Ali Naseer in the sixth over.

Gurbaz was the first man to depart after an anchoring 21 off 17.

Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran (4) became the second victim of Naseer in the next over with 63 runs on the board.

Zazai continued to attack before he also fell prey to Naseer after scoring 36 runs from 27 balls, laced with two boundaries and three sixes.

After Zazai’s departure, Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran stitched together a 26-run partnership before Jawadullah dismissed Zadran to end the budding stand.

Darwish Rasooli was also bowled by Jawadullah in the same over, while Azmatullah Omerzai was dismissed on the first ball of the next over by Junaid Siddique, slipping Afghanistan to 99-6.

Qais Ahmed then played an 18-run cameo off 13 balls, laced with two boundaries and one six before Naseer returned to end his brief stay on the crease.

Nabi was the only ray of hope for Afghanistan as they lost three more wickets in quick succession with 128 runs on the board.

Afghanistan needed 39 runs from 13 balls with one wicket in hand.

Nabi took control and knitted a tenth wicket partnership with the last man Fazalhaq Farooqi, who got to play only two balls during his stay on the crease.

Nabi struck Junaid Siddique for 19 runs in the penultimate over with three boundaries and one six.

However, with 20 required off the last over, he only managed eight runs before getting out on the penultimate ball, ending an entertaining yet fighting knock.

Nabi top-scored for Afghanistan with a blistering 47-run knock which conceded 27 balls and featured five boundaries and two sixes.

Ali Naseer returned with bowling figures of 4-24, while Jawadullah picked 4-26 for UAE.

Ashiqur Rahman Shibli ton powers Bangladesh to win U19 Asia Cup 2023

DUBAI: Ashiqur Rahman Shibli’s 129 followed by the combined bowling efforts by Bangladesh bowlers helped them thump the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 195 runs and win the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2023 for the first time.

After being invited to bat, Bangladesh U19 lost their first wicket in five overs with only 14 runs on the board.

Ashiqur Rahman Shibli was then joined by Chowdhur Md Rizwan and together they knitted a solid 125-run partnership for the second wicket.

Dhruv Parashar dismissed Rizwan (60) to break the partnership at a total of 135.

Shibli was then involved in a partnership with Ariful Islam, scoring 86 runs from 76 balls for the fourth wicket Ayman Ahamed removed the latter.

Ariful Islam departed after scoring 50 off 40, with the help of six boundaries.

Ashiqur Rahman Shibli waged a lone war from his end, while UAE bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals from the other end.

Bangladesh skipper Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby was the only notable contributor from the lower order with a cameo of 21 off 11.

Shibli played a brilliant innings of 129 runs from 149 balls, laced with 12 boundaries and one six, which came to an end in the final over bowled by Ahamed.

Bangladesh U19 finished their innings at 282-8.

Ayman Ahamed topped the bowling charts for UAE with the figures of 4-52, while Omid Rehman picked two wickets.

In response, UAE failed to get the start they wanted to chase a 283-run target as they slipped to 39-4 inside ten overs courtesy of brilliant bowling by Maruf Mridha and Rohanat Doullah Borson.

Dhruv Parashar was the only batter who showed resistance against Bangladesh bowlers, but he could not get support from the other end as the wickets kept tumbling at an alarming rate.

Bangladesh bowlers bowled exceptionally well to bundle the UAE team for a meagre total of 87 inside 25 overs.

Parashar remained unbeaten with the top score of 25 off 40 with the help of two boundaries.

Akshat Rai was the only other UAE batter to cross the double figures with 11 runs from 22 balls.

Mridha and Borson led the destruction by Bangladesh bowlers, picking three wickets each, whereas Iqbal Hossain Emon and Sheikh Paevez Jibon picked two each.

Ashiqur Rahman Shibli was adjudged the man of the match as well as the man of the tournament as he scored the most runs (255) in the tournament.
