Captain Taylor helps West Indies clean sweep ODI series against Pakistan

KARACHI: Stefanie Taylor registered captain’s knock to help West Indies women clean sweep ODI series 3-0 against Pakistan women by winning the third and final contest by six wickets here at National Stadium on Sunday. 

Taylor was on song with her magnificent run that accounted for 12 boundaries, remaining not out for 102 runs off 117 balls.

Set to chase 226 in the final game of the series, West Indies lost three wickets for 15 runs, giving Pakistan all the initial power.

But, Taylor took the responsibility alongside Hayley Matthews to build up the visitors’ momentum. They both scored 83 runs together to put down a solid fight against the opponents in their backyard. Hayley fell after scoring 49 including eight boundaries.

Taylor then partnered with Chedean Nation to score 128 runs to help West Indies pull off a convincing victory against the Green Shirts. Nation remained not out for 51 runs laced with seven boundaries.

For Pakistan, Anam Amin bagged two wickets while Diana Baig and Sadia Iqbal managed to take a wicket each.

Earlier, Muneeba Ali (58) and Aliya Riaz (44) drove Pakistan to 1125-7 in 50 overs. Muneeba stood firm despite Pakistan losing wickets at the other end. Muneeba made 58 runs off 88 balls including eight boundaries.

Aliya Riaz made 44 off 57 including three boundaries and a six.

Shakera Selman and Aaliyah Alleyne bagged two wickets each while Taylor took one.

KARACHI: Hayley Matthews picked up four wickets to help West Indies women bowl out Pakistan for 116 and win the second ODI by 37 runs here at National Stadium on Thursday. 

Matthews shined with her 4-26 as Pakistani batters gave away an opportunity to chase paltry 154 in 50 overs to equalize the three-ODI series. With this win, West Indies won the series 2-0 with one match to be played on November 14.

Sent into bat first, West Indies suffered under pressure after Pakistani bowlers contained their batters from scoring runs. Deandra Dottin scored the highest 34 runs off 50 balls including four boundaries.

Matthews, with the bat, scored 26 that also included two boundaries. Skipper Stafanie Taylor made 23 runs followed by Shemaine Campbelle scoring as many runs as the captain.

For Pakistan, Anam Amin, Fatima Sana, and Omaima Sohail bagged two wickets each while Fatima Sana and Sadiq Iqbal shared a wicket apiece.

In reply, the Pakistani batting line collapsed. Only captain Javeria Khan and Omaima Sohail tried to get Pakistan in touch by scoring 24 and 27 runs respectively.

Apart from Matthews, Shamilia Connell bagged three wickets followed by Shakera Selman and Anisa Mohammed managing a wicket each.

‘We missed our senior batters and it put us short of run-chase’ Anam Amin

KARACHI: Pakistan’s left-arm orthodox Anam Amin thinks that they were short of their senior batters followed by their defeat at the hands of West Indies women in first ODI of three-match series here at National Stadium on Monday.

In an interview released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Anam said Javeria Khan, Omaima Sohail and Nida Dar were missed as they fell short of their run-chase.

“I think we missed our senior batters as we fell short to run-chase. Javeria, Omaima and Nida missed out but I hope we will make comeback in next matches,” she said.

Anam, who picked up her maiden fifer in ODI format, said she is happy to make worthy contribution for her team. “I am happy with this performance. Unfortunately, we lost the match but we will try to comeback in match. I will also try to continue this performance in upcoming matches,” she maintained.

Dottin, Matthews drive West Indies to 45-run victory against Pakistan

KARACHI: Hayley Matthews showed all-round performance to help West Indies notch 45-run victory against Pakistan in the opening ODI here at National Stadium.

Matthews scored her fifth ODI fifty followed by her prominent bowling spell accounting for 3-31. Opener Deandra Dottin scored her second ODI century and partnered with Matthews to drive West Indies to 253-8 after they were asked to bat first.

West Indies got their opener Dottin in good touch who tackled the situation so well at one end despite her partners losing wickets after regular intervals. Dottin and Mathews scored 119 runs together to settle down strongly before Pakistani bowlers made comeback.

Dottin made 132 runs off 146 balls laced with 18 boundaries and two sixes followed by Matthews scoring 57 runs off 67 balls including eight boundaries. Shemaine Campbelle scored 23 runs with the help of two boundaries.

Anam Amin of Pakistan bagged her best ODI figures with finishing her spell at 5-35. Fatima Sana took two wickets in the end and Nashra Sandhu managed to take a scalp.

In reply, Pakistan were off to slow start with also losing a wicket earlier of Sidra Ameen. Average approach and pressure from West Indian bowlers led Pakistan towards losing wickets after regular intervals.

Aliya Riaz scored 46 runs off 61 balls with the help of three boundaries before getting run-out. Iram Javed struck six boundaries to score 40.

Apart from Matthews, Shakera Selman bagged two wickets while Anisa Mohammad and Qiana Joseph managed a wicket each.

Nida leaves Pakistan team following her father’s demise

KARACHI: All-rounder Nida Dar has left the Pakistan women team following her ailing father Rashid Hassan’s demise on Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared. 

Nida, who was with the Pakistan team for the home ODI series against West Indies, has left for home to attend the funeral of his father who was also a former first-class cricketer.

The PCB expressed grief over the demise and stood behind the cricketer in her tough time. Nida’s participation in the series will be decided in due course.

Remember, Pakistan women and West Indies women are scheduled to play three ODIs on November 8, 11, and 14 respectively here at National Stadium.

Both the teams are having training sessions simultaneously at National Stadium and Karachi Gymkhana.

KARACHI: Pakistan women’s team all-rounder Aliya Riaz said she is excited to play against West Indies for the first time here at National Stadium. 

While talking about the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, Aliya said preparations of the team are going well and she is excited to play international cricket at National Stadium.

“It will be a whole different situation to play an international match at the national stadium. We have played a lot of domestic cricket here but international cricket brings more excitement,” she said.

Aliya said the team is preparing strongly for the ODI series which will be followed by ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

“We are having good practice sessions here. Players are taking one-on-one sessions with coaches and trying to overcome their weaknesses. We are really looking forward to giving tough time to them [West Indies] in front of the home crowd,” she concluded.

It must be noted here that Pakistan and West Indies practiced at National Stadium and Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre on Thursday. Teams took part in batting, bowling, and fielding sessions.

West Indies men’s team to tour Pakistan next month: PCB

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Thursday, confirmed that the West Indies men’s team will tour Pakistan next month to play three T20Is and as many ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches. 

According to PCB, West Indies and Pakistan are scheduled to play three T20Is from December 13-16 followed by three ODIs from December 18-22.

This will be the West Indies’ first tour of Pakistan since April 2018 when they played three T20Is. The two-time former 50-over world champions will be playing ODIs in Pakistan for the first time since December 2006.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “After missing out on home internationals in September and October, the West Indies tour will formally kick-off of an exciting and entertaining season of men’s international cricket in Pakistan with HBL Pakistan Super League 2022 and Australia’s first full series to follow,

“The West Indies have always remained one of Pakistan cricket fans’ favourite sides. I am hopeful that the NCOC will support this series by allowing maximum crowds so that the fans can watch live in action their favourite players and back both the sides.â€

KARACHI: Pakistan’s experienced cricketer Nida Dar is confident to make a strong international debut at National Stadium as the national women’s team is all set to take on West Indies in three-match ODI series from November 8. 

In an interview from the sidelines of the team’s training session followed by a scenario-based practice match, Nida said the preparations for the series are in full swing as they will next contest in ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

“We are getting some great practice ahead of the three ODIs against the West Indies. The pitches here are great for cricket and the weather is also great for the game. This series is very important for us to prepare for the World Cup Qualifier,” she said.

“It has been my dream to play at the National Stadium. The pitches here support both batters and bowlers. It gives a great feeling to play in front of your crowds. I am sure West Indies will get to enjoy a great atmosphere here and we will play good cricket,” she added.

West Indies last toured Pakistan in 2018 to play three T20Is and ODIs here at Southen Club. West Indies won the T20I series 2-1 followed by the victory of Pakistan in ODI series 2-1.
