Egypt’s Karim wins PSA World Tour Bronze of GFS Karachi Open Squash

KARACHI: Former World Champion and Egypt’s top-seed Karim Abdel Gawad outclassed his countryman Youssef Soliman 3-0 to win PSA World Tour Bronze Tournament of GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship, here on Saturday.

In the final of the men’s event, the top-seed Karim blunt Youssef 3-0 and clinch the title victory in the recently concluded GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship.

Karim kept leading right from the start as he clinch the first game by 11-5. The former world champion kept on his momentum to outclass Youssef by 11-9 and 11-6 to secure the title victory.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ARY Group Mr Salman Iqbal, Squash legend Jahangir Khan, and the special guest Governor Sindh Imran Ismail watched the final match between the two Egyptians and later presented him the trophy for winning the title.

Earlier in the women’s event, Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim beat Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk 2-1 to win the PSA Challenger Tour 20 Tournament. Sin Yuk retired hurt in the third frame after sustaining an ankle injury and could not recover in time to compete for the glory.

The final matches of the GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship were also streamed on Pakistan’s first HD Sports Channel A Sports’ YouTube channel.

KARACHI: Egypt’s squash player Nour Aboulmakarim wins PSA Challenger Tour 20 of the GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 as her opponent from Hong Kong Chan Sin Yuk was forced to retire after suffering an ankle injury.

In the final of the women’s event, an ankle injury halted Hong Kong’s Sin Yuk from the glory as she could not recover in time to compete for the title victory.

The final of the event saw a see-saw battle between the two players until the third game as Sin Yuk suffered an injury which resulted in her retiring hurt from the match.

The 19-year-old Egyptian Nour clinched the PSA Challenge Tour 20 by defeating Sin Yuk 2-1.

The final of the GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 was also streamed on Pakistan’s first HD Sports Channel A Sports’ YouTube channel.

KARACHI: In the men’s event of the ongoing GFS Karachi Open Squash Champions, Egypt’s top seed and the former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad and his countryman Youssef Soliman secured semi-final victories to book their place in the final.

In the first semi-final of the men’s event on the action-packed fourth day of the GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship, Egypt’s top seed Karim thumped his fellow countryman Omar Mosaad 3-0 to secure a final berth.

Another Egyptian Youssef, on the other hand, laboured hard to win 3-1 against Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas to set up the final clash with Gawad, scheduled on Saturday.

In the women’s event, Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk made her way into the final after her English opponent Lucy Beecroft was forced to retire after being down 2-0. Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim, who registered a 3-0 win against Scotland’s Georgia Adderley, will face Sin Yuk in the final of the PSA Challenger Tour 20.

It is pertinent to mention here that the squash legend Jahangir Khan, alongside two former greats Qamar Zaman and Gogi Allaudin will watch the finals of the two events.

KARACHI: On the third day of the action-packed GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022, Egypt’s top seed and the former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad and his countrymen Omar Mosaad and Youssef Soliman secured semi-finals berths after securing victories in their respective matches.

In the final match of the action-packed day, Gawad continued to showcase his dominance and beat Hong Kong’s Henry Leung 3-1 to storm into the semi-finals.

Earlier, his countrymen, Omar registered a comfortable straight-game win against Hong Kong’s Tsz Kwan Lau, while Youssef thumped the USA number one Shahjahan Khan to book his spot.

 

In the women’s event, Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk continued her brilliance as she blunt Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Lee. England’s Lucy Beecroft caused an upset as she beat the second seed Marie Stephan of France.

The top-seed Karim Abdel Gawad will square off with his countrymate Omar in the most-awaited semi-final of the day. Whereas, in the second men’s semi-final, Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas will lock horns with Egypt’s Youssef.

In the women’s event, however, Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim will take on Scotland’s Georgia Adderley, while Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk will face seventh-seed Englan’s Lucy Beecroft in the second semi-final.

KARACHI:  On the second day of the action-packed GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022, Egypt’s top seed and the former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad thumped Pakistan’s Asim Khan in the second round match to advance into the quarterfinal of the PSA World Tour Bronze Tournament, here on Wednesday.

In the main match of the second day, Egyptian star Gawad sealed a convincing 3-1 victory over Pakistan’s Asim. The former world champion beat Asim by the scores of 10-12,11-7,12-10,11-3, in front of the full capacity crowd. Pakistan squash legend Jahangir Khan also witnessed the keenly followed match.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s top seed Tayyab Aslam and wild card Ashab Irfan also crashed out of the men’s tournament after facing defeats in the second round.

In the women’s event, Malaysia’s Yee Xin Ying upset France’s top seed Enora Villard, while Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk upset Egypt’s Menna Hamed to make their way into the quarterfinals.

In PSA Challenge Tour 20 Tournament, Pakistan’s lone representer Amna Fayyaz crashed out of the event after suffering a crushing defeat by Nadia Pfister.

The tournament will now enter the quarter-final stage on the third day, which will feature number one seed Karim Abdel Gawad and the USA number one Shahjahan Khan in the men’s matches.

KARACHI: The action-packed GFS Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 kicked off today here, Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan, Ashab Irfan, and Amna Fayyaz advanced to the next round after securing victories in their respective matches.

The main match of the star-studded event saw Pakistan’s number one Tayyab securing a comfortable victory against Egypt’s Yahya. The nation’s top-ranked player beat Yahya by 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 12-10.

In another match, Asim stunned England’s Declan in a close contest by 9-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8 after being two games and match-ball down. He will now face as he is due to face former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad of Egypt on day two of the event.

The main match on day two in the men’s event will see former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad, number two seed Youssef Soliman, and the US number one Shahjahan Khan in action.
