Right-handed batter Sadaf Shams came in as Dar’s replacement while pacer Fatima Sana served as the stand-in captain.

Ahead of the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand, right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig suffered a blow to the index finger of her bowling arm, which consequently ruled her out of the rest of the series.

“Right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand women due to a finger injury,” shared PCB.

“28-year-old Diana, while fielding in a practice session, suffered an injury to the index finger of her bowling arm. Immediately after the incident, she was taken to a local hospital for a thorough examination, including an X-ray.

“The medical reports have confirmed a horizontal fracture in Diana Baig’s index finger, making her unavailable for the ODI series against the White Ferns.

“The PCB medical team is closely monitoring her condition, and she will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary course of action for her recovery.”

Diana, Aliya strike before rain washes out Tornadoes-Warriors match

KOWLOON: Tornadoes’ Aliya Riaz and Diana Baig handed back-to-back jolts to Warriors before rain played spoilsport in the fourth match of the FairBreak Invitational tournament 2023 on Wednesday.

Electing to field first, Tornadoes made a flourishing start to the game thanks to a brilliant bowling attack led by the Pakistani duo.

When rain halted play Warriors were 84 for 3 with wicketkeeper Sindhu Sriharsha and Tanya Ruma holding the crease on 17 and 21, respectively.

Diana earned the first breakthrough for Tornadoes, dismissing Esha Oza for a paltry 3 in the third over. Aliya then struck down Ellie Johnstone an over later to restrict the Warriors to 28/3 in the fifth over.

Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield, however, was in fine touch as she scored 27 off 21 and held the fort for the Warriors while wickets tumbled from the other end. Her knock was cut short by Chanida Sutthiruang before the end of the powerplay.

The game witnessed only 12 overs of play before the showers forced umpires to abandon the match. The two teams shared two points each, taking the Warriors to the top of the table with six points from two games.

Diana Baig ruled out of T20 World Cup, Australia T20Is

SYDNEY: Pakistan’s pacer Diana Baig has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and the T20I series against Australia due to an injury to her right hand.

Earlier, Diana sustained the injury in the seventh over of Australia’s innings as she made a desperate attempt to wobble a catch off her own bowling.

Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield came down the track and drove hard, hitting it back to Diana at knee height and it burst through the latter’s hands.

Despite sustaining the injury, Diana completed her spell of 10 overs and picked up two wickets for 56 runs.

She was then taken to a local hospital here where X-Rays confirmed the pacer to have fractured her right hand’s finger.

Following this, Diana has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Australia – scheduled from January 24 to 29 – and also the upcoming mega event in South Africa.

Consequently, right-handed batter Sadaf Shams, who was a part of the team’s travelling reserves for the Australia Tour and T20 World Cup, has replaced Diana in the squad.

It is pertinent to mention that Beth Mooney’s magnificent century powered Australia to thump Pakistan by 101 runs and complete clean sweep in the three-match ODI series on Saturday.
