Grant Bradburn joins Jason Gillespie in Hyderabad coaching staff

Former Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn has become the latest addition to the coaching setup of Hyderabad, one of the newest franchises introduced ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11.

Bradburn will work as the fielding coach under newly-appointed head coach Jason Gillespie, as Hyderabad continue to build its coaching staff ahead of the historic 11th edition of the marquee league.

The franchise confirmed Bradburn’s appointment through the Kingsmen Cricket social media handle, sharing a graphic alongside an official statement.

“Leveling up every move. Hyderabad welcomes Grant Bradburn as Fielding Coach! From drills to practice, he brings world-class experience to every corner of the field,” the post read.

Hyderabad are one of the two new franchises added to the PSL roster ahead of season 11, with Sialkot Stallionz being the other new entrant.

The franchise is owned by Fawad Sarwar’s Kingsmen group and was secured through the PSL auction after the group placed the winning bid of Rs 1.75 billion ($6.25 million).

Bradburn brings significant experience to the role, having served Pakistan in multiple capacities in recent years.

The former New Zealand cricketer was appointed head coach of the Pakistan men’s national team in 2023.

Before that, Bradburn also served as Pakistan’s fielding coach from 2018 to 2020, and later moved to the National Cricket Academy, where he worked on coach development.

He has also coached internationally, having previously worked as the head coach of Scotland’s men’s team.

Head coach Grant Bradburn aims for improvement in the ‘middle overs’

Pakistan men’s cricket team’s head coach Grant Bradburn is aiming for more improvement, specifically in the middle overs ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

Bradburn, while talking to the media on the sidelines of the national team’s training camp for the ODI series against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup spoke about the team’s preparation.

“Cricket is changing rapidly, it’s a dynamic high-scoring game and we are planning according to that, as we want to be at the front and centre at the style of that brand of cricket,” said Grant Bradburn.

“A glimpse of that was seen in the series against New Zealand,” he added.

He emphasized the importance of scoring runs and taking wickets in the middle overs in ODI cricket.

“We are very clear about the fact that we need to score faster in the middle overs. We haven’t been as successful in the middle overs in ODIs as we should have been.

“Not only with the bat but with the ball too, we need to pick more wickets in the middle phase of the innings.

“You saw the way the boys played in Sri Lanka during the Test series. They are looking to play in an aggressive style, and that’s exactly what we demand.

Grant Bradburn also shed light on the dynamics of his relationship with the team director Mickey Arthur.

“Mickey Arthur and I are very good coaching associates and friends for a very long time. We are communicating daily, and he is part of the plan to guide this team in a new direction,” Bradburn added.

“We are looking forward to him [Mickey Arthur] joining us on August 23rd [in Sri Lanka], he will be with us through to the match against India in Kandy. He will later join us for the World Cup in India.”

The head coach also stressed the team is solely focused on the series against Afghanistan.

“We are just thinking about the next week and the next game. The first match against Afghanistan will be very crucial as they are a tough side,” Grant Bradburn said.

Pakistan team is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka on August 22, 24 and 26. The first two ODI will take place in Hambantota, while the third game will be played in Colombo.

The upcoming series is the first bilateral ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Before that, they played only four ODIs and Pakistan remained unbeaten in all.

Afterwards, the Pakistan team will Pakistan will face Nepal in the curtain raiser of the Asia Cup, starting on August 30 at Multan Cricket Stadium.

PCB confirms Grant Bradburn Pakistan men’s team’s head coach

LAHORE: Grant Bradburn has been appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan national men’s side following a robust recruitment process. He will lead the team’s coaching panel for the next two years.

Bradburn served as the head coach of the side during the recently concluded home series against New Zealand on consultancy basis.

The Babar Azam-led side defeated the tourists 4-1 in the five-match ODI series that took them to the top of the ICC Rankings in the format. The five-match T20I series was shared 2-2.

Bradburn is well-versed about the strengths and challenges of the national side having previously served as the fielding coach of the national men’s side from 2018 till 2020 before he moved to the National Cricket Academy to work on the coaches development. Prior to his roles in Pakistan, Bradburn, a former New Zealand cricketer, worked as the head coach of Scotland men’s side.

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Najam Sethi commented on the appointment of Grant Bradburn and termed it another step in the endeavours of putting together a highly qualified coaching panel.

“I am delighted to name Grant Bradburn as the head coach of our men’s side. Bradburn joins the side with plethora of coaching experience. After having worked with our men’s side before and at the National Cricket Academy, he understands our culture and philosophy of cricket well and is an ideal candidate to take our team forward.

“After the announcement of Mickey Arthur as team director, Bradburn’s appointment is another step in our endeavours of putting together a highly qualified coaching panel so our players can benefit from their experiences and dominate world cricket in all three formats.”

With an eye on the prestigious ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy, the Pakistan team management has also unveiled a playing style with which it will approach the tournament to be played in October and November. The style branded as The Pakistan Way will see the team approach the ODIs in the build-up and during the mega-event with positive and bold tactics and attacking strategies.

Pakistan are scheduled to feature in a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan before the 50-over ACC Asia Cup and the national side will use these opportunities to test their potential, experiment with the bench strength and fine-tune the side ahead of the global event.

Reflecting on his appointment as the head coach of the men’s side and unveiling the strategy, Grant Bradburn said that it is a great honour for him to work with a highly talented and skilful side like Pakistan.

“It is a great honour for me to work with a highly talented and skilful side like Pakistan as a head coach. We have been working hard on our raising our game and are eager to showcase our growing skills. Mickey Arthur and I are excited to support, challenge and develop our players. The New Zealand series has been valuable to get game time and create clarity of roles, culture and brand to win.

ODI cricket has evolved and our agreed expectations are aligned to being the best in the world. We have mutually agreed with our players they are capable of higher team scores, even when setting totals. Grant Bradburn resigns as NHPC’s head

LAHORE: Grant Bradburn has sent his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the head of the National High-Performance Centre (NHPC)’s coaching. 

According to PCB, Bradburn resigned from his post to explore more coaching opportunities across the world.

Bradburn, a former New Zealand’s Test cricketer, worked with the Pakistan team as fielding coach from September 2018 to June 2020 followed by his tenure as head of coaching at NHPC.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve Pakistan, providing challenge and support, to drive the players, coaches and teams forward. I will leave PCB grateful for the wonderful opportunities and the experiences I have gained,

“As a foreigner, I felt welcomed and valued by my present and former PCB colleagues, players, officials and the Pakistan public. I have always felt safe here, loved exploring this wonderful country and made many lifetime friends,

“My wife Maree and three children have also sacrificed a lot in allowing me to serve Pakistan cricket. Covid-19 regulations made it challenging for them to visit Pakistan and feel the warmth, love and friendship this country offers. It is now time for me to prioritise family and move forward to the next coaching challenge,” Bradburn said in a statement released by the PCB.
