Sumair Ahmad appointed ICC Champions Trophy Tournament Director

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced that Sumair Ahmad has been appointed as the Tournament Director for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Sumair Ahmad Syed, Chief Operating Officer of the PCB, as the Tournament Director for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in Pakistan,” the PCB stated in a press release.

PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi:

“Sumair is an exceptionally organised professional with a wealth of administrative expertise. Coupled with his unwavering passion for cricket, I am confident he will deliver an unforgettable ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for players, officials and fans alike.

ICC gives thumbs up to Pakistan’s preparations for Champions Trophy 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in the February- March window, however, India’s participation in the tournament is uncertain as the BCCI seeks the government’s approval to visit the country.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), presented a comprehensive progress report on the renovations and infrastructure upgrades of the three selected stadiums during a recent ICC meeting in Dubai.

Taking the opportunity, Naqvi urged the ICC members to make an official visit to Pakistan to personally review the renovations and arrangements, which could help build confidence around hosting a successful event.

The ongoing upgradation work is aimed to ensure the venues meet international standards for the tournament. The National Bank Stadium in Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore are undergoing renovation work, with similar upgrades planned for the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

A five-member ICC delegation recently visited Pakistan to review arrangements for the tournament. The delegation assessed the three stadiums, inspected training facilities, and met with hotel management teams to discuss accommodation and other facilities for the teams.

ICC delegation satisfied with security arrangements for Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation met the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi and expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

The delegation is currently on a visit to Pakistan to inspect the venues and preparations for the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be played in February-March 2025.

Mohsin Naqvi held a detailed discussion with the ICC delegation and assured world-class arrangements for the mega-event.

He also ensured that the stadiums would be upgraded in time for the tournament and that all teams would get full-proof security.

“It is an honor to host the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” said Mohsin Naqvi. “The arrangements are being finalized for the tournament.”

“I ensure that players of all teams will enjoy the game of cricket in a peaceful and safe environment in Pakistan,” he added.

“After the upgrade, the stadiums will have international standard facilities and the fans will enjoy more cricket matches.”

The ICC delegation expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements for the Champions Trophy in Karachi and Rawalpindi.

The meeting was attended by ICC Senior Manager of Events Sara Edgar, Champions Trophy Event Lead Oun Mohammad Zaidi, General Manager Cricket Wasim Khan, PCB’s Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla, and Director Security Colonel Retired Khalid Mahmood.

No team will refuse to come to Pakistan: ensures PCB chairman

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s Ramiz Raja ensured that no team will refuse to come to Pakistan to play in Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. 

While briefing to media, Ramiz said all the cricket boards and International Cricket Council (ICC) have recognized the importance of Pakistan cricket and ensured improved response in the future.

“We had a long chat in ICC meeting over the stance of Pakistan. Every cricket board was present there and they accepted the fact that Pakistan did everything to improve. After a lot of discussions, Pakistan got the hosting rights of Champions Trophy 2025,” he said.

“Let’s hope for the best and I am sure no team will refuse to come here. Our focus now is to work hard and deliver as strongly as possible,” he added.

It must be noted here that Pakistan will also host Asia Cup in 2023 before the all-important T20 World Cup next year in Australia.

DUBAI: Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy in 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.
