Islamabad United include THIS Batter in PSL 11 squad

Three-time Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Islamabad United have bolstered their squad with the addition of top-order batter Mohammad Faiq ahead of the upcoming season 11.

The franchise confirmed the signing of Faiq on Friday through their official social media channels.

The 28-year-old right-hander, who was part of Islamabad United’s squad last year but did not feature in any matches, brings valuable domestic T20 experience to the side.

Faiq has scored 443 runs in 12 matches, boasting an impressive average of 63.28 and a strike rate of 189.31, which includes two centuries and two half-centuries.

The season 11 of the Pakistan Super League is set to kick off on March 26 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, with defending champions Lahore Qalandars taking on debutants Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in the opening fixture.

The tournament will run until May 3, promising an action-packed schedule for fans.

PCB announces Haider Ali’s replacement in Pakistan Shaheens Squad for Top End T20 Series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has replaced Haider Ali with Mohammad Faiq in the Shaheens squad for the upcoming Top End T20 Series in Darwin, Australia, scheduled from August 14 to 24.

In another change, pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr comes in for left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza.

Salman was also overlooked for the senior side for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies despite making an impressive debut earlier this year against Bangladesh.

Middle-order batter Haider was removed from the squad after he was temporarily suspended due to a criminal investigation against him in the United Kingdom.

“The PCB has been made aware of a criminal investigation currently being conducted by the Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali,” the board stated earlier.

“The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.”

Led by Muhammad Irfan Khan, the Shaheens will begin their campaign against Bangladesh ‘A’ on August 14 at TIO Stadium.

The squad includes experienced internationals such as Abdul Samad (five T20Is), Faisal Akram (three ODIs), and Mubasir Khan (one T20I).

The team will go on to face Scorchers (August 16) and Renegades (August 18) at TIO Stadium before playing Kingsmen (August 19), Strikers (August 21), and Nepal (August 22) at DXC Arena. The semi-finals and final are scheduled for August 24.

The 28-year-old has been making waves in the domestic circuit with his aggressive and consistent run-scoring, and he’s no stranger to big knocks under pressure.

Mohammad Faiq recently lit up the National T20 Cup with a jaw-dropping knock for Lahore Whites, smashing an unbeaten 116 off just 56 balls in Faisalabad on March 17.

His whirlwind innings included 12 boundaries and six massive sixes, showcasing his clean hitting and ability to accelerate at will.

That knock wasn’t a one-off. It was Faiq’s second T20 ton, following up on his unbeaten 110 in the previous 2023–24 National T20 season.

With Islamabad United sitting pretty at the top of the table, five wins from five matches, the inclusion of someone like Faiq only adds to their arsenal as the business end of the tournament approaches.

The Shadab Khan-led side is set to take on Lahore Qalandars later today in their second clash of the season. United had comfortably won the first meeting on April 11 with an eight-wicket hammering at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
