Noor Zaman, Nasir Iqbal bag silver at Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025

Pakistan duo Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal claimed the silver medal at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025 in Sarawak, Malaysia, after going down in a closely-contested final against India’s top-seeded pair Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar.

The final lasted 88 minutes and saw Pakistan lose 1-2 with game scores of 11-9, 5-11, 5-11.

The Indian team had beaten Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and Farhan Mehboob in straight games to secure their spot in the final.

Despite the defeat, the Pakistani pair’s spirited performance throughout the tournament earned them widespread praise and a well-deserved place on the podium.

They reached the final after edging out Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee in a tense semi-final that went the distance.

The match ended 2-1 in Pakistan’s favour, with game scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9 in a match that lasted over an hour.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, the Pakistani pair Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal overcame Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo 2-1 (11-3, 5-11, 11-4) to move into the last four.

Their journey to the knockouts was sealed after a straight-sets victory over Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Wei and Chen Ching-Fu (11-2, 11-9) in their final group-stage fixture.

Their Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025 campaign had begun with back-to-back wins on Monday, as Noor and Nasir recorded convincing victories over the Philippines and South Korea to set the tone.

Individually, Noor Zaman, the reigning World U-23 champion, had earlier featured in the Asian Individual Championship but exited in the pre-quarterfinal stage following a five-game loss to Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah, with the young Pakistani struggling with a back spasm during the contest.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan players Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal have booked their place in the final of the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025, where they will face top-seeded India duo Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar on Thursday.

The Pakistani pair edged past Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee in a tense semi-final encounter, prevailing 2-1 with game scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9. The match lasted one hour and eight minutes.

Earlier in the day, the Indian team had beaten Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and Farhan Mehboob in straight games to secure their spot in the title clash, setting up a high-voltage final between arch-rivals.

Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal, seeded second in the tournament, have been in solid form throughout the event.

They reached the semi-finals after a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo, posting scores of 11-3, 5-11, 11-4.

In the final group-stage match on Tuesday, they secured qualification for the knockouts by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Wei and Chen Ching-Fu in straight sets, 11-2, 11-9, in just 11 minutes.

The pair had opened their campaign on Monday with comprehensive victories over the Philippines and South Korea.

Noor Zaman, the reigning World U-23 champion, had also participated in the Asian Individual Squash Championship earlier this month but was knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals by Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah. Zaman, struggling with a back spasm, went down in a five-game battle (3-11, 3-11, 11-3, 12-10, 2-11).

Pakistan will now be eyeing the doubles title as they prepare for a high-stakes final against India in Kuala Lumpur.

Tayyab, Nasir qualify for CWG Men’s doubles Squash pre quarter-finals

BIRMINGHAM: National players Tayyab Aslam and Nasir Iqbal starred in the Men’s double clash against Ghana’s opponents to qualify for the pre-quarterfinal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The Pakistan pair displayed absolute dominance over Ghana’s Ayinh Evans and Anafo Clement in the Round of 32 face-off on Thursday to continue their march further in the competition.

In a one-sided clash, the duo left no room for their opponents to push them on the back foot and dominated both sets to run away with a resounding 2-0 victory with the scores of 11-1 and 11-1.

Tayyab and Nasir will now face Scotland’s Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart in the pre-quarterfinal on Friday and have become a potential hope for another medal for Pakistan in the Games.

Nasir will now team up with his fellow Faiza Zafar to take on New Zealand’s Joelle King and Paul Coll in the Round of 16 Mixed Doubles. Whereas, Amna Fayyaz and Faiza will lock horns with Malaysia’s Rachel Arnold and Aifa Azman in the Round of 16 Women’s doubles.

Pakistan’s Nasir, Faiza beat Sri Lanka in CWG Mixed Squash event

BIRMINGHAM: National players Nasir Iqbal and Faiza Zafar starred in the Mixed Double Squash event in the ongoing Commonwealth Games as the duo outclassed their Sri Lankan opponents to keep the medal hopes alive for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s pair of Nasir and Faiza started their mixed double campaign on a high as they outclassed Sri Lanka’s Sinaly Chanithma and Wakeel Shamil 2-0 to march into the next round.

In a one-sided clash, the duo of Nasir and Faiza dominated Sri Lankan opponents for the majority of the match before running with a consolidating victory with the scores of 11-10 and 11-5.

Another Pakistan pair of Tayyab Aslam and Amna Fayyaz, on the other hand, remained unable to follow the footsteps of their fellows as the pair suffered a crushing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barbados’ mix Best Meagan and Cumberbatch Khamai.

Besides Squash, Pakistan lost to Australia in the Badminton Women’s doubles event as the top pair of Mahoor Shahzad and Ghazala Siddiqui remained clueless against Australian opponents; suffering a crushing 2-0 defeat.

Pakistan secure first win in CWG as Nasir shines in Squash event

BIRMINGHAM: National player Nasir Iqbal starred in the Men’s Single Squash competition as he handed a crushing defeat to his Jamaican opponent Julian Morrison 3-0 in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

After a dismal start to their Commonwealth Games campaign, Pakistan found a moment to cherish as Nasir claimed the first victory for the nation in the global event.

In the Round of 64 of the Men’s Squash event, Nasir utterly outclassed Morrison by the scores of 3-0 and qualified for the next round. He dominated the Jamaican opponent in each set before running away with a scintillating victory.

Besides Squash, the country had a forgetful opening day at the Games as the national athletes including women’s cricket and badminton teams remained unable to taste success.

Additionally, the medal race for the swimming competition has seen the elimination of both national male and female swimmers. Haseeb Tariq, however, offered a glimmer of hope for the medal as he won the first round but was unable to advance to the final as he finished 35th in the second.
