Noor Zaman, Nasir Iqbal bag silver at Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025

Pakistan duo Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal claimed the silver medal at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025 in Sarawak, Malaysia, after going down in a closely-contested final against India’s top-seeded pair Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar.

The final lasted 88 minutes and saw Pakistan lose 1-2 with game scores of 11-9, 5-11, 5-11.

The Indian team had beaten Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and Farhan Mehboob in straight games to secure their spot in the final.

Despite the defeat, the Pakistani pair’s spirited performance throughout the tournament earned them widespread praise and a well-deserved place on the podium.

They reached the final after edging out Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee in a tense semi-final that went the distance.

The match ended 2-1 in Pakistan’s favour, with game scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9 in a match that lasted over an hour.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, the Pakistani pair Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal overcame Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo 2-1 (11-3, 5-11, 11-4) to move into the last four.

Their journey to the knockouts was sealed after a straight-sets victory over Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Wei and Chen Ching-Fu (11-2, 11-9) in their final group-stage fixture.

Their Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025 campaign had begun with back-to-back wins on Monday, as Noor and Nasir recorded convincing victories over the Philippines and South Korea to set the tone.

Individually, Noor Zaman, the reigning World U-23 champion, had earlier featured in the Asian Individual Championship but exited in the pre-quarterfinal stage following a five-game loss to Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah, with the young Pakistani struggling with a back spasm during the contest.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan players Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal have booked their place in the final of the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025, where they will face top-seeded India duo Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar on Thursday.

The Pakistani pair edged past Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee in a tense semi-final encounter, prevailing 2-1 with game scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9. The match lasted one hour and eight minutes.

Earlier in the day, the Indian team had beaten Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and Farhan Mehboob in straight games to secure their spot in the title clash, setting up a high-voltage final between arch-rivals.

Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal, seeded second in the tournament, have been in solid form throughout the event.

They reached the semi-finals after a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo, posting scores of 11-3, 5-11, 11-4.

In the final group-stage match on Tuesday, they secured qualification for the knockouts by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Wei and Chen Ching-Fu in straight sets, 11-2, 11-9, in just 11 minutes.

The pair had opened their campaign on Monday with comprehensive victories over the Philippines and South Korea.

Noor Zaman, the reigning World U-23 champion, had also participated in the Asian Individual Squash Championship earlier this month but was knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals by Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah. Zaman, struggling with a back spasm, went down in a five-game battle (3-11, 3-11, 11-3, 12-10, 2-11).

Pakistan will now be eyeing the doubles title as they prepare for a high-stakes final against India in Kuala Lumpur.

Pakistan’s Noor Zaman wins inaugural U23 World Squash Championship

Pakistan’s rising squash sensation, Noor Zaman, etched his name in history on Thursday as he lifted the inaugural WSF U23 World Squash Championship title with a stunning victory over Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey.

The young star showed nerves of steel in front of a buzzing home crowd at Karachi’s DHA Creek Club, rallying back from two games down to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory in the final.

It was far from a smooth start for Noor, who found himself on the back foot early in the contest. But as pressure mounted, he dug deep.

“After going two games down, I just told myself to stay focused and fight till the very end,” Noor said after the final.

The second seed had earlier booked his spot in the final with a commanding performance against Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran in the semifinals.

Noor Zaman was already leading when his opponent retired mid-match, sending the Pakistani through to the summit clash.

“The crowd support has been incredible. I gave it my all to win this title for Pakistan,” Noor had said after that match.

His win sparked celebrations across the country and drew praise from the highest offices in the land. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on Noor’s success, calling it a proud moment for Pakistan.

“Noor Zaman has brought global recognition to Pakistan. The entire nation is proud of him,” said the PM, adding that he hopes Pakistan will regain its lost glory in squash.

President Asif Ali Zardari also lauded Noor’s “outstanding performance” and expressed confidence in the youngster’s future.

Pakistan’s Noor Zaman secures spot in inaugural U-23 World Squash Championship final

KARACHI: Pakistan squash player Noor Zaman stormed into the inaugural U23 World Squash Championship final here at Karachi’s DHA Creek Club on Wednesday.

Noor pipped his Malaysian counterpart Ameeshenraj Chandarana with a dominant display of 11-6, 11-2, 11-4.

Noor was in control, leading 2-0, before Chandarana retired due to health conditions. He will now face Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in the final on Thursday.

After the victory, Noor expressed gratitude for reaching the final of the World Squash Championship, mentioning his grandfather’s hard work, legendary Qamar Zaman.

“Qualifying for the final is a great honor for me, my family and entire Pakistan. My grandfather worked really hard with me when I was eight or nine years old,” he said.

In the second men’s semi-final, Kareem El Torkey delivered a surprising performance by defeating the top seed, Ibrahim Elkabbani, with a score of 3-1.

Although El Torkey lost the first game, he made a strong comeback to secure victories in the following three matches.

Elkabbani’s frustration escalated during the match, leading to multiple confrontations with the referee.

The Egyptian player appeared increasingly upset, challenging the official’s calls throughout the game.

It is pertinent to mention that the winner of the U23 World Squash Championship will get an automatic qualification through to the PSA World Championships as well as the lion’s share of a $60,000 prize pot.

Pakistan’s Noor Zaman wins Asian U-19 Individual Squash Championship

PATTAYA: Pakistan’s Noor Zaman bagged a gold medal in the 29th Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship by defeating his Malaysian counterpart Joachim Chuah 3-1 on Monday.

In the all-important final, Zaman completely dominated his opponent Chuah to bag gold for his country.

The Pakistani player started the contest on a high as he pulled ahead of Chuah with an 11-9 victory in the first set and laid the foundation for his triumph.

The Malaysian then fired back at Zaman in the next set by defeating Zaman by 12-10 to draw level at 1-1.

Chuah’s comeback did not affect Zaman much as he carried on his brilliance to seal the next two sets by 11-5 and 11-9 and bagged a gold medal.

Following this victory, the junior squash player took to Twitter to share his picture while posing with the trophy.
