LAHORE: Excitement of the cricket fans boost up as the second phase of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7 is set to kick off tomorrow with the table-toppers Multan Sultans taking on the former champions – Peshawar Zalmi.

Consisting of 15 matches, the first phase of the marquee event concluded on February 7 with Quetta Gladiators defeating Lahore Qalandars in a thriller.

With the second phase set to embark from tomorrow, all six teams remain in the plea of the top-four play-off slots. The defending champions Sultans, who are comfortably sitting at the top of the points table – courtesy of their unbeaten run in Karachi – are the favourites for securing a spot in the play-offs.

The 2020 PSL champions – Karachi Kings, however, can still make their way back into the tournament despite losing all their first five matches in Lahore if their fortunes alter.

Islamabad United and the Qalandars have had a comparatively identical run in the first phase with five matches, three wins, two defeats but United’s superior run rate puts them on the second spot, while the Qalandars occupy the third.

Whereas, former champions – Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi too had a similar run in the first phase; winning two out of their first five contests. The Gladiators occupied fourth place, thanks to their stunning victory over the Qalandars in the last match of the Karachi leg.

The crushing defeat against the United is still haunting the Zalmi, as the side despite having the same points tally as the Gladiators, are in fifth place because of the inferior net run rate.

It is worth mentioning here that a total of 19 matches will be played during the second phase of the PSL 7 with each side still having five matches left to secure a spot in the play-offs.

PSL 7: Teams to reach Lahore tomorrow for the second-leg

KARACHI: The teams will begin to arrive in Lahore from tomorrow for the second phase of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7.

The Karachi-leg of the ongoing marquee event is about to be concluded tomorrow with the match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at National Stadium. The franchises will start to fly for Lahore from tomorrow.

According to the details, the teams of Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Multan Sultans will reach Lahore tomorrow, while Karachi Kings, Qalandars, and Gladiators will reach the city on February 8.

The teams will then have practice sessions at National High-Performance Center (NHPC) and Lahore City Cricket Association Ground (LCCA).

The second phase of the PSL 7 will commence on February 10 in which 19 matches will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, including the play-offs and the final. The marquee event will conclude on February 27.

PCB calls meeting to discuss PSL 7 preparations for Lahore leg

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held an important meeting at the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) for the preparations of the second-leg matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The high-profile meeting for the preparations of the league’s upcoming matches in Lahore was presided by Deputy Commissioner Lahore – Umer Sher Chattha. Several members of the PCB, district administration, and law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.

The meeting directed the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to maintain complete cleanliness inside and around the stadium. Whereas, ordered the district administration to arrange shuttle bus service from designated places for the convenience of the fans.

Furthermore, a 25-bed hospital will also be set up soon to combat any unpleasant situation.

It is worth mentioning here that the second phase of the PSL 7 will start from February 10 in Lahore.
