However, that proved to be only success for Galle Marvels during the innings as Rossouw joined Kusal Mendis and together they launched an onslaught.

They struck 63 runs in the first six overs, with Mendis leading the charge with a 13-ball 32. Meanwhile, Rossouw switched the gears in the next over and took the game completely away from the Marvels.

Rajapaksa waged a lone war as he struck 82 runs from 34 balls with the help of eight boundaries and six sixes. His smashing knock came to an end courtesy of Fernando.

Rilee Rossouw’s ton propels Jaffna Kings to ease past Colombo Strikers

DAMBULLA: Rilee Rossouw’s unbeaten century led Jaffna Kings to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Colombo Strikers in the 13th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 here at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a 189-run target, the Kings comfortably marched to the victory for the loss of just three wickets and nine balls to spare.

The Kings, however, had a contrasting start to the pursuit as they lost both their openers Pathum Nissanka (6) and Kusal Mendis (5) inside five overs with just 30 runs on the board.

Rossouw then turned the tide in the Kings’ favour with a belligerent knock which featured 12 fours and six sixes.

He was involved in a match-defining 120-run partnership with Avishka Fernando, who supported him brilliantly with a brisk half-century.

Fernando scored 58 off 35 deliveries, peppered with seven fours and two sixes before walking back to the pavilion in the 15th over.

Rilee Rossouw then put together a one-sided partnership with skipper Charith Assalanka (11*) and sealed the deal for the Kings in the penultimate over.

Shadab Khan, Taskin Ahmed and Dunith Wellalage could pick up a wicket apiece for the Strikers.

Earlier after being put into bat first, the Strikers registered a decent total of 188/8, mainly due to the efforts of their top-order batters.

Leading the way was in-form Glenn Phillips with a well-crafted half-century. He top-scored for the Strikers with a 32-ball 58, laced up with six fours and three sixes.

Besides him, openers Angelo Perera (34) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (27) made notable contributions.

Azmatullah Omarzai and Asitha Fernando led the bowling charge for the Kings with two wickets. Tabraiz Shamsi, Fabian Allen and Pramod Madushan, on the other hand, made one scalp each.

Rilee Rossouw named Quetta Gladiators’ captain for PSL 9

Former champions Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday, appointed South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw as their captain for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9, scheduled to commence on February 17.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the 2019 champions officially announced the change in their leadership.

“Introducing our new captain. [Rilee Rossouw] takes the reigns of [Quetta Gladiators],” the statement read.

Meanwhile, left-handed prolific batter Saud Shakeel has been named as the vice-captain.

The official announcement came a day after wicketkeeper batter Sarfaraz Ahmed relinquished the role.

According to the details, Sarfaraz decided against leading the former champions for the straight ninth year after consultation with newly-appointed head coach Shane Watson.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has been a key part of the franchise since the inaugural edition of the PSL and has been leading the side since then.

The franchise played three finals under his leadership and also lifted their solitary title in 2019.

However, the franchise saw a total change of fortune since winning the title as they failed to reach the playoffs in the last four editions.

In a bid to force a change, Quetta Gladiators made notable changes in their coaching staff and management as they brought in legendary all-rounder Shane Watson as the head coach and express pacer Shaun Tait as their bowling coach.

Franchise owner Nadeem Omer appeared in a local podcast in December where he revealed that he is “double-minded” on Sarfaraz Ahmed’s future as the captain.

However, earlier this week, Omer revealed that Sarfaraz Ahmed himself wanted to take a break from captaincy to focus more on his performance.

“Sarfaraz wants to take a break from captaincy with new head coach Shane Watson set to decide who will lead the side after consulting with the team management,” Omer said.

Quetta Gladiators squad for PSL 9:

Sherfane Rutherford, Mohammad Amir, Rilee Rossouw, Mohammad Wasim Junior, Jason Roy, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mohammad Hasnain, Abrar Ahmed, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, Sajjad Ali Junior, Usman Qadir, Omair Bin Yousuf, Will Smeed, Khawaja Nafay, Adil Naz, Akeal Hosain, and Sohail Khan.

Iftikhar Ahmed joins Multan Sultans, Rilee Rossouw returns to Quetta Gladiators for PSL 9

LAHORE: All-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed has parted ways with Quetta Gladiators and will wear the colours of Multan Sultans in the ninth season of Pakistan Super League (PSL), while Rilee Rossouw will return to Gladiators.

The trade deal saw Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans swapping Iftikhar Ahmed and Rilee Rossouw, as well as, Sultans getting the first pick in the platinum category round one while Gladiators will get the first pick in the silver round one.

Iftikhar Ahmed has previously represented Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, along with Gladiators in PSL and Multan Sultans will be his fifth team.

Meanwhile, Rilee Rossouw was part of Quetta Gladiators’ PSL winning team in 2019, having represented the team from 2017-2019.

The registration window for foreign players was opened on 25 October with several top players across the globe showing interest.

Pretoria Capitals beat Paarl Royals to reach SA20 final

JOHANNESBURG: Rilee Rossouw fired in with a 41-ball 56 before bowlers took the charge and steered Pretoria Capitals to the SA20 final after they edged Paarl Royals by 29 runs in the first semifinal on Wednesday.

Rossouw’s valiant fifty helped Pretoria Capitals reach a respectable total of 153/8 in the 20 overs after they were put into bat.

Paarl Royals, in reply, were bundled out for a mere 124 runs thanks to a brilliant combined effort by Capitals’ bowlers.

Eathan Bosch, Anrich Nortje, Adil Rashid and James Neesham took two wickets each as Capitals kept Paarl Royals’ batting line unsettled throughout the chase.

Capitals proved to be a much better side on the second consecutive day after they crushed the Royals by 59 runs in Centurion on Wednesday.

However, a different surface in Johannesburg, which offered something to both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners, made the win a bit more laborious for the Capitals. They were reduced to 51/3 in the ninth over with Phil Salt, Kusal Mendis and stand-in captain Theunis de Bruyn back in the camp.

Rossouw then held on the fort but received little support from the other end as Colin Ingram and James Neesham fell in quick succession. The left-hander, however, continued his tempo and showed some fireworks in the late overs, hitting Lungi Ngidi for four boundaries in the 18th over.

Eathan Bosch smashed three fours and a maximum in his 10-ball 22 while Rashid was able to hit two fours in the final over to take Pretoria past the 150 mark.

Royals, on the other hand, went through a dismal start as opener Jason Roy was cut short on a duck by Bosch on the second ball of the innings. Bosch then handed a fateful jolt on the first ball of his second over, cleaning up the in-form Jos Buttler.

Paul Stirling tried to salvage the Royals by clubbing three fours and a six but was trapped LBW right after the powerplay off Adil Rashid, who then went on to hunt Dane Vilas with a googly to leave Paarl 72/4 after 10 overs.

Albeit brief contributions from Eoin Morgan (17 from 13) and David Miller (31 from 27) from there onwards, the Royals never looked in control of the game and threw away the chase in the 19th over.
