Bumrah stars as India need six more wickets to win

CENTURION: Indian fast bowlers breathed fire against the South African batters; dismissing their four wickets for 94, while chasing 305 in the first Test.

In the final session of the fourth day of the ongoing Test. South Africa started their run-chase lost wickets at a consistent rate; having lost four of them for the loss of 94 runs. The side still needs 211 runs to pull off a victory.

The skipper – Dean Elgar fought hard with his unbeaten 52 off 122 balls. However, his partners did not lend any support, and departed after scoring cheaply. Elgar (52*) and Temba Bavuma will now resume the proceedings for the side at 94/4 on the final day.

Indian bowling foundation – Jasprit Bumrah made two scalps in the second inning, while Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj each claimed one wicket.

At the day’s commencement, India resumed the proceedings at 16/1 struggled throughout the innings. None of their batters could able to stay for long at the crease, and the side, eventually, bowled out for a paltry 174; setting a 305-runs target for the hosts.

KL Rahul scored 23 off 74, followed by their top-scorer in the second inning – Rishabh Pant, who scored a run-a-ball 34; smashing six boundaries.

For the Proteas, Kagiso Rabada and Macro Jansesn each claimed four wickets, while Lungi Ngidi dismissed two batters.

Bowlers shine to keep India in control against South Africa

CENTURION: Indian bowlers annihilated South Africa’s batting line-up; dismissing them for 197 before India collapsed on 327 on the third day of the first Test.

India’s Mohammad Shami took five-fer to dismantle the Proteas batting line-up. The hosts bowled out for a paltry 197 in the first innings, in response to India’s 327.

South Africa, started off poorly with the bat; losing their first four wickets for just 32 runs. However, Temba Bavuma and the wicket-keeper batter, Quinton de Kock showed fightback. The pair added a brilliant 72-runs partnership, but, de Kock fell short. The left-handed batter departed after scoring 34.

The hosts then ran into a collapse; slipping from 104/4 to 197 all-out. Bavuma, who put on a magnificent half-century, also fell victim to the Indian bowling star – Mohammed Shami, who forced the batter to nick the ball into the hands of the keeper. He scored 52, including 10 boundaries.

For India, Shami starred picking up five wickets for 44, while Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah each took two wickets. Mohammed Siraj, on the other hand, claimed one wicket.

India, started their second inning with a 130-runs, also halted by a poor start, as their opener Mayank Agarwal departed after scoring just four. Last inning centurion – KL Rahul (5*) and the nightwatchman Thakur (4*) will now resume the proceedings for the touring side at 16/1 on the fourth day.

In the first session of the third day, India resumed at an overnight score of 272/3, collapsed, and were bowled out for 327. The side only managed to add just 55 runs for the loss of remaining seven wickets.

Rahul remained the top-scorer for the side in the first innings, with his terrific 123.

For the Proteas, Lungi Ngidi bagged six wickets, while Kagiso Rabada picked three. Marco Jansen, on the other hand, picked one wicket.

CENTURION: The second day of the first Test between India and South Africa, called out without a ball being bowled as Rain hindered the day’s play.

Rain continued to fall on the third day of the final between India and South Africa; forcing the day to be called off without a ball being bowled.

India’s centurion – KL Rahul along with Ajinkya Rahane will resume the innings for the touring party at 272/3. Rahul is unbeaten on 123, while Rahane is not-out on 40.

For South Africa, only Lungi Ngidi was the bowler who managed to open his account; picking three wickets. Rest of the bowlers had a bad day at the office, as they went wicketless.

Rahul’s century puts India in enviable position

CENTURION: Indian opener KL Rahul scored a brilliant century to help India finish day 1 of the first Test at 272/3 against South Africa, on Sunday.

Indian captain, Virat Kohli, winning the toss, elected to bat first. Batting first the Indian openers did not disappoint. The pair recorded an astonishing century partnership. Mayank Agarwal scored a magnificent half-century; scoring 60 laced with nine boundaries.

Following Agarwal’s dismissal, Cheteshwar Pujara bagged a golden duck, and India slipped to 117/2. Indian skipper, Kohli, again failed to go big with the bat, and was dismissed after edging Lungi Ngidi’s wide outside off delivery to the slip cordon. He managed to score 35.

Ajinkya Rahane then partnered strongly with Rahul, the pair recorded an unbeaten 73-runs partnership before the stumps.

Rahul, batted brilliantly throughout the day and went on to smash a terrific century – his seventh overall in the Test cricket. He remained unbeaten with his outstanding 122, including 11 boundaries and a six. Whereas, Rahane is unbeaten with his classy 40.

For the hosts, Ngidi picked all the three wickets on the first day.
