Sri Lanka dethrone Pakistan from the fourth position in WTC points table

MIRPUR: Sri Lanka have dethroned Pakistan from the fourth position in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) points table after a 1-0 series victory over Bangladesh, here on Friday.

Sri Lanka national men’s cricket team clinched 12 vital points following their series win over the hosts Bangladesh to dethrone the then fourth-placed Pakistan in the World Test Championship points table.

The two-match Test series concluded today as the touring side only needed 29 runs to seal the victory and the series as the first Test was ended in a draw.

Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando was adjudged the player of the match, who became just the second bowler from the country to take a 10-wicket haul in an away Test.

The veteran right-handed batter Angelo Matthews, on the other hand, was adjudged as the Player of the Series as he remained the top-scorer of the series with 344 runs including two centuries.

The Green Shirts will now take on Sri Lanka in a two-match away Test series, scheduled in July-August this year and will be hoping to reclaim their position on the points table.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis walks off the field complaining of chest pain

DHAKA: Sri Lanka’s right-handed batter Kusal Mendis walked off the field holding his chest minutes before the lunch of the opening day of the second Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, here on Monday.

Mendis, who was fielding in the slip cordon, pulled up in the 23rd over of the match and was taken off the field after the physios briefly checked on him.

The wicket-keeper batter has been hospitalized as a precautionary check-up and according to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Manager Mahinda Halangoda, the ECG reports of the player have “come out clear”, while he is still under observation in a local hospital here.

“The ECG reports of Kusal Mendis have come out clear, the doctors suspect muscle spasms as the reason for his discomfort, while he is still under observation,” Halangoda was quoted saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

As per the initial update, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) doctor Manzur Hossain Chowdhury stated that Mendis was taken to the hospital for proper diagnosis and better management while he was suffering from dehydration leading into the match.
