Pakistan women’s team reaches Sri Lanka for T20 Asia Cup

Pakistan women’s cricket team reached Sri Lanka earlier today to participate in the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, which will be held from 19 to 28 July.

Nida Dar-led Pakistan are placed in Group ‘A’ along with arch-rivals India as well as Nepal and UAE, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia are in Group B’. The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals on July 26.

Pakistan will take on India on the opening day of the tournament on 19 July, while their matches against Nepal and UAE will be on 21 and 23 July, respectively.

This will be Pakistan women’s first assignment under the new coaching staff, which includes head coach Mohammad Waseem, assistant coach Junaid Khan and spin bowling coach Abdur Rehman.

The women’s team underwent rigorous training at a training camp ahead of the Asia Cup at Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi.

“We have worked out various strategic plans during the training camp. But we need to steer in a better direction,” Waseem said after the conclusion of training camp.

“We attempted to change the players’ mindset and also worked on improving their fitness levels. I am satisfied with the fitness and fielding standards of our team.”

Nashra Sandhu replaces injured Fatima Sana for Women’s T20 Asia Cup

LAHORE: Left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu replaced pacer Fatima Sana for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup T20 after the latter sustained an injury that ruled her out of the tournament.

Fatima, who was representing Barbados Royals in the recently-held Women’s Caribbean Premier League, sustained an ankle injury that kept her out of the continental event.

Following Fatima ruling out of the Asia Cup, left-arm spinner Nashra replaced the former, who has represented Pakistan in 77 matches. Nashra was amongst the four reserve players for the Women’s Asia Cup.

The national women’s team is currently partaking in a 10-day training camp, set up at Lahore Country Club in Muridke and will depart for Bangladesh on September 28.

The Green Shirts will start their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against Malaysia on October 2 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Fatima Sana out of Women’s T20 Asia Cup with ankle injury

LAHORE: Fast bowler Fatima Sana has been ruled out of the national squad for ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled in Bangladesh from October 1,  after she twisted her ankle during the Caribbean Premier League.  

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the right-arm pacer has been advised four-week rest by the PCB medical board and her replacement will be announced in due course.

Fatima had also missed out on the first phase of the team’s preparation camp for the Asia Cup held in Lahore from August 30 to September 2. She was representing Barbados Royal in the CPL.

Pakistan squad, however, will undergo a 10-day camp commencing tomorrow at Lahore Country Club, Muridke. The national side will depart for Bangladesh on September 28.
