Pakistan knocked out of ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup after Ireland loss

Pakistan fell 13 runs short in their final ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup group match against Ireland in a rain-hit fixture here at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval in Malaysia on Wednesday.

Pakistan finished fourth in Group B and will now face Samoa in the 4th place play-off on Friday, 24 January at the same venue.

From Group B Ireland along with England and the United States of America (USA) have qualified for the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Ireland, who opted to bat first winning the toss, posted 69-5 in the allotted nine overs with player of the match Alice Walsh top-scoring with a 19-ball 31.

Walsh, who opened the batting hit five fours before falling to leg-spinner Quratulain in the seventh over. Her opening partner Freya Sargent hit two fours in her 11 off 10, while Annabel Squires and Abbi Harrison contributed with run-a-ball 13 not out and 10, respectively.

For Pakistan U19 women’s team, Memoona Khalid picked up two wickets in her only over. Pakistan’s revised target as per the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method was 73 in nine overs.

In turn, Pakistan got off to a promising start of 24 for no loss in 2.1 overs before wickets started falling regularly as they finished with 59-7. Skipper Komal Khan top-scored with run-a-ball 12 hitting a solitary boundary as her team fell short.

For Ireland, Ellie McGee was the pick of the bowlers with two scalps in as many overs giving away 13 runs.

Pakistan’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up fixtures revealed

DUBAI: Pakistan will face Scotland and Bangladesh in the warm-up fixtures of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The warm-up matches will be played from 28 September to 1 October, serving as an opportunity for the teams to acclimatize to the conditions ahead of the mega-event.

Each team will play two warm-up games and will be allowed to field the complete 15-member squad in those matches.

Pakistan will face Scotland in their first T20 World Cup warm-up match on 28 September, followed by a clash with Bangladesh on 30 September.

For the unversed, the tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh however due to the ongoing political turmoil in the country, it was relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the matches staged in Dubai and Sharjah.

The mega event will kick off with hosts Bangladesh taking on Scotland on October 3 in Sharjah before Pakistan open their campaign against Sri Lanka later that day at the same venue.

Pakistan women’s team reaches Sri Lanka for T20 Asia Cup

Pakistan women’s cricket team reached Sri Lanka earlier today to participate in the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, which will be held from 19 to 28 July.

Nida Dar-led Pakistan are placed in Group ‘A’ along with arch-rivals India as well as Nepal and UAE, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia are in Group B’. The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals on July 26.

Pakistan will take on India on the opening day of the tournament on 19 July, while their matches against Nepal and UAE will be on 21 and 23 July, respectively.

This will be Pakistan women’s first assignment under the new coaching staff, which includes head coach Mohammad Waseem, assistant coach Junaid Khan and spin bowling coach Abdur Rehman.

The women’s team underwent rigorous training at a training camp ahead of the Asia Cup at Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi.

“We have worked out various strategic plans during the training camp. But we need to steer in a better direction,” Waseem said after the conclusion of training camp.

“We attempted to change the players’ mindset and also worked on improving their fitness levels. I am satisfied with the fitness and fielding standards of our team.”

PCB announces probable for Pakistan Women’s Camp against Sri Lanka

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled the probable for the national women’s team’s training camp ahead of the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka, here on Thursday.

The national women’s selectors have named 26 players for the training camp for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which will begin on May 24 in Karachi. The Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre, National Stadium Karachi, will host the 12-day programme from May 7 to 18.

The women’s team’s captain Bismah Maroof, all-rounder Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, and Fatima Sana will not attend the camp and will join the squad for the series on May 17. The quartet will compete in a women’s T20 event in Dubai. Nashra Sandhu, a left-arm spinner, will also be unable to participate in the camp owing to a shoulder injury.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the six matches (three ODIs and three T20Is) will be played at Southend Club here.
