I haven’t felt restless: Shaheen Shah on workload concerns

Karachi: Pakistan’s spearhead pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi says that his workload has been managed really well by team management.
The 21-year-old pacer opined that he is enjoying all three formats and it is his time to play for country and perform.
“I have said it before that I enjoy all formats of the sport. I really enjoy Test cricket because you are really tested in each session. It is fun and it makes you tough. I enjoy Test cricket a lot,” Shaheen told Cricket Pakistan.
“I think our physio and trainer are managing my workload really well. I think they both know how I should be used. They plan these things with the management. I plan with them before bowling. I think if I feel my workload is getting too much then I would tell them myself if I need rest in any match. I haven’t felt anything like that however and it is my time to play for Pakistan. I feel very happy when I play well for my country,” he added.
It must be noted that concerns have been raised mostly in the past few months regarding the workload of Shaheen Shah. Head coach Misbah-ul-Haq also wants critics to stop worrying about Shaheen’s workload.

Netherlands beat Ireland by one run in World Cup Super League thriller

Utrecht: The Netherlands defeated Ireland by just one run on Wednesday in the first of three one-day internationals in Utrecht.
Timm van der Gugten starred with both bat and ball in a match that forms part of the World Cup Super League qualifying process for the 2023 50-over showpiece in India.

Test nation Ireland had the edge early on, with Craig Young and Josh Little taking three wickets apiece before tailender Van der Gugten’s 49 from 53 balls saw the Netherlands to a total of 195.
Ireland then collapsed to 69-5 before the experienced Paul Stirling revived their innings with 69 only to fall to Van der Gugten, the man of the match.
Left-arm spinner Pieter Seelar then took two wickets in an over to leave Ireland needing 19 runs from 24 balls.
And with three required off the last ball, Ireland No 10 Little failed to connect, with the ensuing bye not enough to deny the Dutch a tense victory.

The second ODI is scheduled for Friday, with the series concluding on June 7.
For the World Cup, hosts India and the top seven sides thereafter in the 13-team Super League will qualify automatically.
The remaining five teams will then play in a 2022 qualifying event to decide the final two sides for a 10-nation World Cup.

Usman Khawaja wants Australia to definitely tour Pakistan in 2022

Karachi: Australia’s left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja thinks that his country’s cricket team must visit Pakistan next year.
The five-time world champion last toured Pakistan in 1998. The 34-year-old Khawaja opined that there is no reason for Kangaroos to not visit the country.
“The responsibility is on Australia to tour Pakistan. I think Australia should one hundred percent tour Pakistan,” Khawaja said while talking to Cricwick.
“I think Pakistan in the last four or five years has showed enough that security here is extremely good, players are extremely comfortable coming here for the PSL, and so I think it’s an opportunity for Australia. I’ve heard England are also touring Pakistan this year. It will be good for cricket. Pakistan has played lot of cricket in Dubai, now they need to play at home,” he added.
It must be noted Australia are scheduled to tour Pakistan in February of 2022 for two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
Remember, Khawaja is in Abu Dhabi and will be representing Islamabad United in the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021.

PCB to wait one more day for future of PSL 6

ABU DHABI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to wait till tomorrow to get National Crisis & Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA)’s approval to start installing the production set-up.
A higher official in the PCB has said that NCEMA will most likely make a decision on this matter by tomorrow.
Remember, PCB had requested Abu Dhabi authorities to allow Indian crew to start installing production set-up at Sheikh Zayed Stadium from June 5 in order to let Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 resume from June 7.
Moreover, a request was made to relax COVID-19 restrictions for Indian crew which was sent back to Dubai to complete quarantine. PCB requested Abu Dhabi’s health ministry to allow the Indian crew to complete quarantine here.
It must be noted here Pakistan will now travel to England on June 25 instead of June 23. PSL 6 final is expected on June 24 if the league resumes on June 7.

Hundred hero Conway puts New Zealand on top against England

LORD’S: Devon Conway became just the sixth batsman to score a hundred on Test debut at Lord’s to leave New Zealand well-placed at stumps on the first day of their series opener against England.
The South Africa-born opener batted for the whole of Wednesday’s play, with his 136 not out the cornerstone of New Zealand’s 246-3 in a match that marks the return of spectators to international cricket in England after a 2020 season played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Together with fellow left-hander Henry Nicholls (46 not out), Conway shared an unbroken stand of 132 after the tourists were in trouble at 114-3 on the first day of this two-match series.
On a day for debutants, Ollie Robinson marked his entry into Test cricket by leading England’s attack with 2-50 in 16 overs.
But the 27-year-old Sussex fast bowler found himself under scrutiny when a number of racist and sexist historic Twitter messages he had posted as a teenager resurfaced.
The tweets, dating back to 2012, left Robinson and the England and Wales Cricket Board in an especially embarrassing position given both teams had lined up before play for a ‘Moment of Unity’ meant to show their opposition to discrimination within cricket.
England, in the absence of the injured Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, opted for an attack built on four right-arm quick bowlers and no specialist spinner after Jack Leach was omitted from their XI.
The only real variety came when England captain Joe Root bowled his occasional off-breaks.
Root, however, did come close to having Conway stumped by wicketkeeper James Bracey, one of two England debutants along with Robinson, on 117.
But replays confirmed Conway had dragged his foot back in time.
Conway was thrust into the action immediately after New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss in what was the Black Caps’ first match at Lord’s since an agonising ‘Super Over’ loss to England in the 2019 World Cup final.
But while Williamson and fellow senior batsman Ross Taylor both fell cheaply, the 29-year-old Conway pressed on to a 163-ball century, reaching the landmark with a flamboyant whipped legside four, his 11th boundary, off Robinson.
Only five other batsmen had previously scored a Test debut hundred at Lord’s, with Conway the first New Zealand international to achieve the feat.
New Zealand had the better of the morning session to be 85-1 at lunch after Robinson had Tom Latham playing on for 23.
But James Anderson, equalling retired former captain Alastair Cook’s England record of 161 Test appearances, struck in the first over after the interval when Williamson played on for 13 as the runs dried up.
Williamson’s exit gave Anderson, already England’s most succesful bowler in Test history, his 615th wicket at this level.
Robinson then had Taylor, playing down the wrong line, lbw for 14.
The Black Caps, who face India in the inaugural World Test Championship final at Southampton later this month, were without Trent Boult after the left-arm quick was granted family time in New Zealand following his stint in the Indian Premier League.

Tabish, Asad missed out as PCB calls 26 players for training camp

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called 26 players for a High-Performance training camp at National High-Performance Centre (NHPC).
The players are directed to report to the camp tomorrow (3 June) and the training sessions will start on Friday (June 4).
Meanwhile, experienced cricketer Asad Shafiq and Tabish Khan have missed out on the camp. Asad last played a Test in 2020 and was dropped due to poor performance. Tabish’s exclusion is yet another surprise as the right-arm fast bowler got a chance to make his Test debut at the age of 36 against Zimbabwe in April this year. The lad played only a Test and took a wicket.
The 26 players’ list includes Abdullah Shafique (Central Punjab), Ather Mehmood (Northern), Faisal Akram (Southern Punjab), Haris Sohail (Balochistan), Imran Butt (Balochistan), Irfanullah Shah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Israrullah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Kamran Ghulam (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mir Hamza (Sindh), Mohammad Abbas (Southern Punjab), Mohammad Taha (Sindh), Mubasir Khan (Northern), Mukhtar Ahmed (Southern Punjab), Munir Riaz (Northern), Nauman Ali (Northern), Omair Bin Yousaf (Sindh), Sahibzada Farhan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Sajid Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Salman Irshad (Northern), Saud Shakeel (Sindh), Taj Wali (Balochistan), Umer Khan (Southern Punjab), Usman Salahuddin (Central Punjab), Waqar Hussain (Southern Punjab), Yasir Shah (Balochistan) and Zia-ul-Haq (Southern Punjab).
These players will be divided into two batches, one for red-ball cricket and other for white-ball format. All the players will train under the supervision of NHPC’s coaches Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohammad Yousuf, and Umar Rashid. Misbah-ul-Haq (head coach, men’s team), Abdul Majeed (fielding coach, men’s team), Ijaz Ahmed (head coach, Shaheens), Rao Iftikhar Anjum (bowling coach, Shaheens) and Mohtisham Rasheed (fielding coach, Shaheens) will also join the camp.
