Rashid Khan left out of Afghanistan squad for Bangladesh Test

KABUL: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Wednesday, announced a 15-member squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh, leaving out star all-rounder Rashid Khan to prioritise his “long-term fitness”.

Rashid Khan, who returned to action in the ODI series decider against Sri Lanka after missing the first two due to a lower-back injury, has now been rested for Afghanistan’s one-off Test against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place from June 14 to 18.

“Although he made a comeback in the series decider today, the team management & medical team have decided to prioritize his long-term fitness,” the ACB said on Twitter.

“Despite being fit, our selectors believe it is crucial not to rush his return. They have taken a cautious approach to ensure he receives adequate rest and rehabilitation allowing him to regain full fitness before the upcoming BCBtigers series, the ACC Asia Cup & the ICC CWC 2023,” the statement added.

Besides Rashid Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, who missed the third ODI against Sri Lanka was also left out of Afghanistan’s squad due to a groin injury.

As per the ACB, he will undergo rehab and will remain under full medical observation until his return.

Meanwhile, Izharulhaq Naveed, Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai, Nijat Masood, and Karim Janat have all received their maiden Afghanistan Test call-ups. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the 15-man squad.

Afghanistan will reach Bangladesh on June 10 for the one-off Test. They will tour Bangladesh twice this year – firstly for the one-off Test in June and then for a three-match ODI series and two T20Is in July.

Afghanistan outclass Bangladesh to qualify for Asia Cup 2022 Super 4s

DUBAI: Afghanistan batters Ibrahim Zadran and Najibullah Zadran completed a comfortable chase for their side with unbeaten knocks after spinners dominated Bangladesh batting line-up as Afghanistan sealed an emphatic seven-wicket victory to book a Super 4s spot in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

Set to chase 128, Afghanistan comfortably steered to victory in the 19th over with seven wickets to spare, thanks to the astounding knock of Ibrahim and Najibullah.

Afghanistan were off to an unwanted start to their run chase as the side lost their first wicket for a mere 15 runs amid a slow start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz perished cheaply for 11.

Bangladesh bowlers then did well to stop the run flow and mounted the pressure on Afghanistan batters, which paid off the side in the form of Hazratullah Zazai’s wicket in the 10th over, who could only manage to score 23 off 26 deliveries.

The match took a thrilling turn in the 13th over when Mohammad Saifuddin trapped the Afghan captain Mohammad Nabi for a mere eight; forcing Afghanistan to slip to 62/3 while chasing 128.

Ibrahim and Najibullah then denied Bangladesh’s comeback as they batted sensibly and put on a match-winning unbeaten 69-run partnership for the fourth wicket and cruised Afghanistan over the line in the 19th over.

Ibrahim batted sensibly for his 42 off 41, while Najibullah top-scored with a quickfire 43 off a mere 17 deliveries, laced with a boundary and six sixes.

For Bangladesh, their captain Shakib Al Hasan, Mosaddek Hussain, and Mohammad Saifuddin made one scalp each.

Bangladesh, after winning the toss, made a rather surprising decision to elect to bat first against Afghanistan in the third match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

Batting first, last edition’s finalists Bangladesh were off to a dismal start as the Afghanistan spinners dismissed half of their side for 53 in the 11th over.

Former Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah, alongside Mosaddek anchored the inning after a horrific start and added 36 runs for the sixth wicket.

Mosaddek was looking solid amid the stand, while Mahmudullah was struggling to score at a quick pace and in the end, fell victim to Afghanistan star bowler Rashid in the 16th over. He scored a mere 25 off 27 deliveries.

Bangladesh hero Mosaddek then joined hands with tailender Mahedi Hassan and added a further 39 runs to the total before the latter perished in the final over courtesy of a run-out.

Hassan scored a crucial 14 off 12, while Mosaddek top-scored for the side with an unbeaten 48 off 31 deliveries, laced with four boundaries and a six.

For Afghanistan, Rashid and Mujeeb starred as they bagged three wickets each.

Fazalhaq, Zazai power Afghanistan to level the series against Bangladesh

MIRPUR: Afghan batters Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani played match-winning knocks after the bowlers wreaked havoc on Bangladesh’s batting line-up to help their side beat the hosts by eight wickets and level the series, here on Saturday.

Set to chase a paltry 116, Afghanistan managed to seal the victory in the 18th over despite an unwanted start as the touring side lost the opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz cheaply for four.

Zazai and Ghani then put on a solid 99-runs partnership for the second wicket and set the foundation of the victory. The pair appeared solid as both batters were scoring the runs swiftly before Ghani departed in the 16th over after scoring 47.

The right-handed batter, who missed his well-deserved half-century by a mere three runs, faced 48 deliveries; smashing five boundaries and a six.

His partner, Zazai, on the other hand, carried his bat till the end and scored a spectacular half-century. He scored an unbeaten 59 off just 45 balls with the help of three boundaries and five sixes.

For Bangladesh, Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan picked up a wicket each.

Batting first, Bangladesh’s batting line-up failed completely as the home side could only manage to score a mere 115/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who was playing his 100th T20I, fought hard with his gritty knock of 30 runs, while the rest of the batters seemed clueless in front of the Afghan bowling attack.

For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Azmatullah Omarzai led the way with three wickets each, while Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi struck out a batter each.

Nasum, Das propel Bangladesh to beat Afghanistan in the first T20I

MIRPUR: Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed returned with match-winning bowling figures of 4-10 after Litton Das’ magnificent 60-runs knock to help the home side beat Afghanistan by 61-runs in the first T20I, here on Thursday.

Set to chase 156, the Afghan batting line-up failed and bowled out for a skimpy 94 in the 18th over; handing a consolidating 61 runs victory to the home side.

Afghan middle-order batter Najeebullah Zadran resisted a bit with his gritty 27 off 26 balls with the help of one boundary and as many sixes, while the rest of the batters failed to contribute significantly in the run chase.

For Bangladesh, Nasum Ahmed shine; taking four wickets for a mere 10 runs, while Shoriful Islam took three. Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, claimed two wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman managed to pick one.

Batting first, Bangaladesh posted a commendable 155/8 in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to the brilliant 60-runs knock of Das.

After opting to bat first, the home side had a poor start to their innings; losing two wickets for a mere 25 as Mohammad Naim and Munim Shahriar departed after scoring cheaply.

Shakib then put on a brief 22- runs partnership with Das before prior perished after scoring just five in the eighth over.

Following Shakib’s departure, the home side kept losing wickets at a consistent rate, while Das remained firm at the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly. He scored a valiant 60 off 44 balls before walking back to the pavilion in the 17th over. The right-handed batter smashed four boundaries and two sixes in the course of his astonishing knock.

The middle-order Afif Hosain then scored crucial runs at the death; scoring 25 off 24 balls, laced with two boundaries to assist the Tigers to post 155/8 in the first innings.

For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai and Fazalhaq Farooqi took two wickets each, while Rashid Khan and Qais Ahmad struck out a batter each.

Bangladesh beat Afghanistan to take an unassailable 2-0 lead

CHITTAGONG: Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das recorded a match-defining 202-runs partnership as Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 88 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series; taking an unassailable 2-0 lead, here on Friday.

Bangladesh sealed a comprehensive victory in the second ODI by defeating Afghanistan by a massive margin of 88 runs. The home side amassed a massive total of 306-4 in the first innings, thanks to the record-breaking third-wicket partnership between Das and Rahim.

Afghanistan’s response was insufficient to keep the series alive, as the touring side could only score 218 runs before being dismissed in the 46th over.

Batting first, the home side was off to an average start as their skipper Tamim Iqbal departed in the seventh over after scoring a mere 12.

Briefly, after Tamim’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hassan also perished after scoring 20 off 36 balls. With his departure, the home side was slipped to 83-2 in the 16th over.

Rahim and Das then stood up for their team and batted magnificently. The pair recorded a terrific 202-runs partnership for the third wicket. Rahim scored a brilliant 86 off 93 deliveries with the help of nine boundaries, while Das went on to score a sensational hundred.

In the course of his stunning knock of 136, Das faced 126 balls and smashed 18 boundaries including two sixes.

For Afghanistan, Fareed Ahmed bagged two wickets, while Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi struck out a batter each.

In the run chase, Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran scored half-centuries, but their gritty knocks too could not steer the side over the line. Rahmat scored 52, while Zadran top-scored for the side with his 54 down the order.

Despite their brilliant innings, Afghanistan was bowled out in the 46th over for a paltry 218 as the rest of the batters remained unable to significantly contribute to the team.

For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed and Shakib claimed two wickets each, while Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahmuduallah, and Afif Hossain struck out a batter apiece.

With this victory, Bangladesh have completed their sixth consecutive ODI series win at home. The ten points set Bangladesh back to the top of the ICC ODI Super League points table.

Afif, Mehidy drive Bangladesh to victory despite top order’s failure

CHITTAGONG: Bangladesh’s lower-order batters Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put on a crucial match-winning partnership to drive their side over the line in the first ODI against Afghanistan, here on Wednesday.

Set to chase a mere 216, Bangladesh’s top-order failed completely as the side lost their first six wickets for a skimpy 45.

Despite the early horror, Afif and Mehidy stood up for their team and put on a valiant and unbeaten 174-runs partnership for the seventh wicket. The pair batted brilliantly; both scoring gritty half-centuries and turned the match in their favour. Following their partnership, Bangladesh sealed the victory in the 49th over with four wickets to spare.

Mehidy, who was later adjudged as the Player of the Match scored 81* off 120 deliveries, with the help of nine boundaries, while Afif remained just seven short of his century as he remained unbeaten with 93 off 115 balls; smashing 11 boundaries and a six.

For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi bagged four wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan made one scalp each.

Batting first, Afghanistan could manage to score 215 before being bowled out in the 49th over. Najibullah Zadran top-scored for the side with his half-century; scoring 67 off 84 balls, laced with four boundaries and two sixes, while Rahmat Shah followed back with his 34 off 69 deliveries; including three boundaries.

With no support from the top and lower order, the side, in the end, bowled for a mere 215 in the first innings; handing an easy target for the home side.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman led the way with his three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam followed with two each. Mahmuduallah, on the other hand, struck out a batter.
