Ayesha, Omaima star as Pakistan sink Sri Lanka in nail-biter

SYLHET: Ayesha Naseem hit two sixes in a row to finish the proceeding in style after Omaima Sohail decimated the Sri Lankan batting lineup with astounding bowling figures of 5/13 as Pakistan sealed a thrilling win over Sri Lanka in the 21st match of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022.

Set to chase 113, the green shirts steered to glory in the 19th over with five wickets to spare despite a poor start.

Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals in the run chase and slipped to 51/4 in the 10th over with captain Bismah Maroof also walking back to the dressing room after scoring 13 off 16.

All-rounder Nida Dar and Aliya Riaz then anchored the run chase with a vital 45-run partnership for the fifth wicket before the latter fell victim to Kavisha Dilhari. Aliya scored 20 off 26 with the help of three boundaries.

Following the slump, Dar then joined hands with Ayesha and made sure to power their side to victory and avoided any further stutter. Dar top-scored for Pakistan as she remained unbeaten with 26 off 28 including a boundary.

Ayesha, on the other hand, stole the show with two consecutive sixes and accumulated 16* off just five deliveries.

Dilhari was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as she bagged two wickets, while Inoka Ranaweera, Achini Kulasuriya, and Oshadi Ranasinghe made one scalp each.

Batting first, after winning the toss, the Sri Lankan batting line-up failed completely skittled out for a paltry 112 in the 19th over.

Skipper Chamari Athapaththu provided a solid start to her side as she scored a gritty 41 up the order. She faced 26 deliveries and smashed nine boundaries before falling to Tuba Hassan in the ninth over.

Following her dismissal, the side began to lose wickets at an alarming rate, courtesy of a magnificent bowling spell from Omaima. Ranasinghe fought out with a gritty 26 in the middle but, she too, could not power her side out of trouble.

Sidra makes big leap as ICC announces latest Women’s ODI Rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan right-handed batter Sidra Ameen made a big gain in the ICC ODI Women’s Batting Rankings as she stormed into the top 40 of the rankings following her brilliant performance against Sri Lanka in the recently-concluded series.

Sidra, who enjoyed a delightful home series against Sri Lanka, jumped 19 places to secure her career-best 35th rank in the latest ODI batting rankings.

The right-handed batter scored 218 runs at an average of 72.66 including a century and half-century during a three-match series.

Sidra started the year on a high as she became just the first Pakistani woman batter to score a century in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. With her second this year against Sri Lanka, she has also levelled with Javeria Khan as the second batter to score two centuries for Pakistan in Women’s ODIs.

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, on the other hand, also returned to the rankings following her remarkable century against Pakistan in the third ODI, bolstering her to claim the 23rd ranking.

KARACHI: Various records tumbled during the second ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as the Green Shirts defeated Sri Lanka by 73 runs on the back of a brilliant century of Sidra Ameen.

Pakistan’s in-form batter, Sidra, who shone in the second ODI with a brilliant century knock of 123 runs, registered herself in various records.

With her two centuries in Women’s ODIs, Sidra has become just the second Pakistani batter to score two centuries in the format. The batting all-rounder Javeria Khan was the first to achieve this feat.

Furthermore, Sidra’s 123 in the recently-concluded second ODI, is the second-highest individual score by a Pakistani batter in Women’s ODIs, just behind Javeria Khan’s 133, who scored the highest individual score by a Pakistani batter in 2014. Both the batters scored big against Sri Lanka.

Sidra and her opening partner Muneeba Ali, as a pair too, were splendid as they claimed two records with their astounding 158 runs opening partnership in the second ODI.

With their 158 runs opening partnership, Sidra and Muneeba registered the first century-plus opening stand for Pakistan in Women’s ODIs. Their astonishing partnership is also the second-best overall stand for Pakistan in ODIs. KARACHI: Opening batter Sidra Ameen’s ton coupled with right-arm pacer Fatima Sana’s brilliance with the ball led Pakistan to a comprehensive victory over Sri Lanka by 73 runs in the second ODI of the three-match ODI series, claiming the series 2-0, here at Southend Club Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka fell short in their chase for 254 runs and managed to score only 180 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Harshita Madavi remained the top scorer for her side minting 41 runs off 48 balls.

Pakistan’s right-arm pacer Fatima stormed through the Sri Lankan batting line and claimed four wickets.

Sri Lanka made a promising start to their chase and managed to score 151/5 before the right-arm spinner Omaima Sohail broke the strong-looking partnership of 61 runs between Kavisha Dilha and Madhvani in the 39th over.

The Sri Lankan camp underwent panic mode as it lost four quick wickets in just 7 overs. The rest of the team could only add 29 runs into the total.

Pakistan, after opting to bat first after winning the toss, the opening pair of Sidra and Muneeba Ali completely dislodged the Sri Lankan bowling attack and made a firm stand of 152 runs before the right-arm medium pacer Oshadi Ranasinghe sent the latter to the pavilion in the 36th over. Muneeba made 56 off 100 which included three boundaries.

Sidra, on the hand, continued with her inspiring knock and made another magnificent partnership with Pakistan’s skipper Bismah Maroof of 78 runs. She was dismissed by Kavisha Dilhari in the 48th over after scoring her career-best 128 runs as the ball crossed the ropes 11 times through her bat.

Bismah and all-rounder Nida Dar then wrapped up the innings for Pakistan as the skipper remained not-out 36 runs off 43 balls while Nida remained unbeaten with her 10.

Sri Lankan bowlers, on the other hand, failed to crack through the solid batting of the Pakistan women’s team. Apart from Dilhari and Ranasinghe, no other bowler managed to get a wicket.

Pakistan has comprehensively won the three-match series after today’s win. The dead rubber third ODI will be played on June 5.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s skipper Bismah Maroof and the opening batter Sidra Ameen scored half-centuries after Ghulam Fatima starred with the ball to bolster Pakistan sealing a comprehensive eight-wickets victory over Sri Lanka Women’s team in the first ODI.

Set to chase 170, Pakistan comfortably steered to the victory in the 42nd over for the loss of just two wickets at the back of Bismah and Sidra’s half-centuries.

The Green Shirts had an unwanted start to their run chase as the side lost their first wicket for a mere 25 runs. Bismah and Sidra then anchored the run chase with a magnificent 143-run partnership for the second wicket.

Sidra, however, lost her wicket in the same over Pakistan clinched the victory as Oshadi Ranasinghe castled her for 76. She remained the top scorer for the side with her brilliant knock and smashed seven boundaries.

Bismah, on the other hand, carried her bat till the end and remained unbeaten with an astonishing 62 off 101 balls, laced with five boundaries.

For Sri Lanka, Achini Kulasuriya and Ranasinghe claimed one wicket apiece.

After opting to bat first, Sri Lankan batters could not manage to post a commendable total on the board as Fatima’s brilliance restricted the side to 169.

Batting first, the touring side had an unwanted start as they lost three wickets for a mere 46 runs in the 16th over.

DUBAI: Pakistan right-arm spinner Nida Dar made a big gain in the ICC T20I Women’s Bowling Rankings as she stormed into the top 10 of the rankings following her brilliant performance against Sri Lanka in the T20I series.

Nida, who claimed two wickets with a splendid economy of 3.8 in the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, has now claimed the 10th rank after climbing up four spots.

Trophy for Pakistan-Sri Lanka Women’s ODI series unveiled

KARACHI: The trophy of the upcoming ODI series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka Women, has been unveiled, here at Southend Club on Tuesday.

The trophy for the ODI series was revealed by Pakistani skipper Bismah Maroof and her Sri Lankan counterpart Chamari Athapaththu.

The two captains posed with the glittering trophy of the ODI series, which will be a part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

Earlier, both teams held practice sessions for the first ODI; scheduled for June 1. Players from both teams participated in batting, bowling, and fielding drills.

The second and third ODI of the all-important series will be played on June 3 and 5 respectively.

The two sides have come face to face in 30 ODIs so far with Sri Lanka winning 21 of them. Pakistan, on the other hand, could only manage to win nine.

‘Need to work more on fast bowling’ Pakistan women’s team bowling coach

KARACHI: Pakistan National Women’s team’s bowling coach Saleem Jaafer emphasized the need of working more in the fast bowling department.

Saleem, while talking to the media post and prior to the T20I and ODI series respectively, praised the women’s team’s bowlers for bowling and performing as per the plan while also stressing the need of working more in the fast bowling department.

“Women cricketers performed as per the plan. The seniors and the debutants both performed well and produced exceptional results despite the tough weather conditions,” Saleem stated.

“I think we need to work more on the fast bowling. The spinners, on the other hand, have been exceptional in the T20I series,” he maintained.

The bowling coach further commented on the upcoming challenge of the side as they take on the touring side Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series, which is a part of the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship, saying that success is important for us as the competition has been increased.

“The competition has intensified in the ICC Women’s Championship. Winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka is important for us,” Saleem shared.

The former cricketer also responded to a query regarding his rifts with the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja and claimed that “Everything is fine and I do not have any differences with Ramiz Bhai.”

Pakistan win nail-biting third T20I to whitewash Sri Lanka women’s team

KARACHI: Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof held her nerves calm to steer the side to a nail-biting victory over Sri Lanka in the third T20I as the Green Shirts completed a resounding 3-0 whitewash, here on Saturday.

Set to chase a paltry 108, Pakistan had to bat till the last ball of the match to seal the victory.

In the run chase, the home side also had a dismal start with the bat as they lost wickets at a regular interval which halted the flow of runs.

The Green Shirts lost half of the side for a mere 74 runs 16th over as Aliya Riaz walked back to the pavilion after scoring 17. Whereas, Nida Dar made her way back in the 18th over after scoring a run-a-ball 14.

Bismah alongside the returning Kainat Imtiaz put on a gritty and unbeaten 27-run partnership for the seventh wicket and propelled the side to complete the whitewash.

Bismah remained unbeaten with run-a-ball 15 while Kainat scored four off seven deliveries.

For Sri Lanka, Oshadi Ranasinghe starred with the ball with three wickets while Kashiva Dilhari bagged two. Sugandika Kumari, on the other hand, made one scalp.

Winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu opted to bat first and she alongside her opening partner Hasini Perera provided a solid start by putting on a magnificent 69-run opening partnership.

The touring side appeared to be in control as both the openers have found themselves going until the 12th over, which proved out to trump the touring side’s fortune as both the openers departed in two consecutive balls.

Following their departure, the side began to lose wickets at an alarming rate and could not recover from the collapse as they lost seven wickets for 14 runs to slip from 69-0 to 83-7.

In the run chase, Pakistan had an unwanted start as the side lost three wickets for a mere 34 runs as the wicket-keeper batter Muneeba Ali, Iram Javed, and Gull Feroza departed after scoring cheaply.

Batting first, the Sri Lankan side was off to a poor start; losing two quick wickets for a mere 28 runs as the captain Chamari Athapaththu and Ranasinghe scored cheaply with five and eight respectively.

Following an early disaster, Perera and Nilakshi de Silva put on an important 34-run partnership for the third wicket to bolster the side to a respectable total.
