Sri Lanka batter Imesha Dulani ruled out of Pakistan tour following an injury

KARACHI: Sri Lanka’s right-handed batter Imesha Dulani, has been ruled out of the ongoing Pakistan tour following an injury.

Sri Lanka women’s team, which is scheduled to take on the hosts Pakistan in the second T20I today, has been rocked by an injury blow as their young right-handed batter will miss the remainder of the tour.

Gulani suffered a leg injury, which resulted in her missing the all-important tour. The 20-years-old batter will fly back to Sri Lanka later and the team management will consider a replacement in a due course.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are set to lock horns in the second T20I of the three-match series today with Pakistan leading 1-0.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan started their home series on a high as the Green Shirts defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the first T20I on Tuesday.

‘I want to meet Javed Miandad’ Sri Lanka Women’s team coach Hashan

KARACHI: Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team’s head coach Hashan Tillakaratne expressed his desire to meet the legendary Pakistani batter Javed Miandad.

Hashan, in a scheduled press conference, ahead of his team’s T20I series against the home side Pakistan, has expressed his desire to meet the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Hall of Famer Javed.

“I would really love to meet Miandad. He helped me a lot in my batting career,” Hashan stated.

The Sri Lankan coach also heaped praises on Pakistan and claimed to consider the country the ‘Big Brother’.

“Pakistan has always helped us. I consider Pakistan as big brother,” Hashan shared.

The former Sri Lankan Test captain then discussed his team’s preparations for the T20I series against Pakistan and shared that the touring side is also well prepared for the challenge.

“This series is no less than a challenge for us. We are also well prepared for it and are hopeful to play good cricket here,” Hashan said.

“We did not play much cricket in the last two years but we will try our best to give tough time to Pakistan. I am also well aware of the capabilities of the Pakistan women’s team,” he maintained.

Hashan also commented on the country’s ongoing economic crisis and the impact it had on the preparations of the women’s team, saying the situation will not affect much on our cricket.

“The cricket has now started in Sri Lanka. The situation will not affect our cricket much. We had to cancel some training sessions in the early stages but thankfully we have completed our preparations,” he maintained.

‘I do not have any rift with Javeria’ claims Bismah Maroof

KARACHI: Pakistan National Women’s Cricket Team’s captain Bismah Maroof has turned down the claims of her rifts with Javeria Khan.

Bismah interacted with the media in the scheduled press conference ahead of the T20I series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and clarified that she does not hold any grudge against the right-handed batter Javeria.

“I do not have any rift with Javeria. It totally depends on the selectors, to whom they select in the squad,” Bismah stated.

The skipper also discussed the team’s preparations for the crucial series against Sri Lanka, stating that he is certain that the two teams would play competitive cricket, while also claiming to try adapting to the weather conditions.

“Preparations are in a great flow and we are trying to adapt to the weather conditions,” she said.

“We do not take Sri Lanka as an easy opponent. I think we would definitely witness a competitive cricket,” Bismah added.

The all-rounder also opined on the inclusion of the two uncapped players in the squad and claimed to have been playing with them for a long time.

“I have been playing for a long time with the newly included players, so there is nothing that they are new for me or am I unaware of their capabilities,” she concluded.

It is apropos to mention here that the three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will kick off tomorrow, while the second and third T20I will be contested on May 26 and 28.

Trophy for Pakistan-Sri Lanka Women’s T20I series unveiled

KARACHI: The trophy of the historic T20I series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka Women, has been unveiled, here at Southend Club on Monday.

The trophy for the T20I series was revealed by Pakistani skipper Bismah Maroof and her Sri Lankan counterpart Chamari Athapaththu.

The two captains posed with the glittering trophy of the T20I series, which will mark the first instance when the Sri Lanka women’s team will play a bilateral series on Pakistan soil.

Earlier, both teams held three-day-long practice sessions for the first T20I; scheduled for May 24. Players from both teams participated in batting, bowling, and fielding drills.

The second and third T20I of the historic series will be played on May 26 and 28 respectively.

The two sides will then compete in a three-match ODI series, which is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, on June 1, 3, and 5.

KARACHI: The Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team has begun their training at Southend Club, ahead of the away T20I series against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka women’s team, which is touring the country for the first time to play a bilateral series, has raced up their preparations for the upcoming challenge against the Green Shirts.

In the first training session of the training, the players participated in physical training and fielding drills.

The players will also participate in the net and fielding sessions for the remaining days and will rest on May 23.

The three T20Is will be contested on May 24, 26, and 28. The ODIs for the ICC Women’s Championship will take place on June 1, 3, and 5.

PCB announces T20I, ODI squad for home series against Sri Lanka

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 15-members squad of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team for the T20I and ODI home series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin later this month.

The PCB has named three uncapped players in the ODI and T20I squad for the home series against Sri Lanka. Gull Feroza, an uncapped wicket-keeper batsman, has been chosen in both the ODI and T20I squads, while leg spinner Tuba Hassan is only in the T20I squad and Sadaf Shams is only in the ODI squad.

The Chief Selector Asmavia Iqbal finalised the squad in consultation with the head coach David Hemp and captain Bismah Maroof following the performances of the pre-series camp participants. During the selection procedure, the selection panel evaluated their form, fitness, and previous performances.

 

Bismah, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, and Fatima Sana, who competed in the FairBreak Invitational T20 tournament in Dubai, have returned to Karachi and will begin a three-day pre-series training session on Saturday.

The ongoing pre-series camp, on the other hand, will conclude today with a practice session at the Hanif Mohammad HPC, whereas, a 50-over practice match was staged between the 26 camp participants.

The three T20Is will be contested on May 24, 26, and 28. The ODIs for the ICC Women’s Championship will take place on June 1, 3, and 5.

PCB unveils match officials for Pakistan-Sri Lanka women series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the match officials for the Pakistan women’s cricket team’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, here on Wednesday.

The PCB Umpire of the Year 2020 Asif Yaqoob, alongside Faisal Afridi, Imtiaz Iqbal and Imran Jawed will alternatively serve as the on-field and reserve umpire duties during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka women.

Ali Naqvi, on the other hand, will be the match referee for the T20I series while Mohammad Javed Malik will perform the refereeing duties for the ODIs.

 

The Sri Lankan team will land in Karachi on 19th May, the two teams will compete in a three-match T20I series with matches scheduled for 24, 26 and 28 May. The first-ever tour also comprises three ODIs which are a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, scheduled on 1, 3 and 5 June.

Pakistan women’s team starts training for home series against Sri Lanka

KARACHI: Pakistan women’s national cricket team started their preparations for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka as the 10-day long training camp kicked off here on Monday.

In the first training session of the team, the players participated in physical training and fielding drills.

The 26-players training camp will also feature three 50-overs matches on May 11, 14, and 17 and two practice T20 matches on May 12 and 15 for scenario-based training.

The players will also participate in the net and fielding sessions for the remaining days and will rest on May 13 and 16.

It is apropos to mention here that Sri Lanka women will lock horns with the home side Pakistan in a three-match each ODI and T20I series from May 24 to June 05.

PCB announces probable for Pakistan Women’s Camp against Sri Lanka

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled the probable for the national women’s team’s training camp ahead of the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka, here on Thursday.

The national women’s selectors have named 26 players for the training camp for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which will begin on May 24 in Karachi. The Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre, National Stadium Karachi, will host the 12-day programme from May 7 to 18.

The women’s team’s captain Bismah Maroof, all-rounder Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, and Fatima Sana will not attend the camp and will join the squad for the series on May 17. The quartet will compete in a women’s T20 event in Dubai. Nashra Sandhu, a left-arm spinner, will also be unable to participate in the camp owing to a shoulder injury.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the six matches (three ODIs and three T20Is) will be played at Southend Club here.

PCB announces schedule of Pakistan-Sri Lanka women’s series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the schedule of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka women’s series, which will roll into action from May 24 at Southend Cricket Club in Karachi.

The green shirts will kick off their ICC Women’s Championship on June 1 by hosting Sri Lanka for the first time for an ODI series.

The three-match series will roll into action on June 1 and will conclude on June 4.

Sri Lanka women, however, will start their tour with a three-match T20I series, scheduled from May 24 to May 28.

For the historic series, the home side will undergo an 11-day training camp, which will be held at the Academy Oval ground adjacent to the National Stadium. The camp will feature 26 players.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan women’s cricket team will be participating in the ICC Women’s Championship for the third time. The green shirts finished seventh ahead of Sri Lanka in the inaugural position. In the second event, however, Pakistan finished in fifth position ahead of New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.

This will be Pakistan’s first international series since the Corona pandemic was contained, hence the regulated environment for these matches will be relaxed. Before the series, all players, referees, and sports personnel will be tested. Anyone who tests positive for Covid 19 will spend five days in isolation.

The T20Is and ODIs during Sri Lanka women’s visit to Karachi will begin at 1400 and 0930.
