Warwickshire frustrated over Hasan Ali’s limited availability amid Pakistan recall

Warwickshire County Cricket Club (CCC) has been left disappointed by the surprise inclusion of pacer Hasan Ali in Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh.

The 30-year-old, who was expected to rejoin Warwickshire later this month for their T20 Blast campaign, made a return from injury during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.

His 17 wickets in 10 matches for Karachi Kings not only signalled a strong comeback but also earned him a national recall, one that has disrupted Warwickshire’s pre-season plans.

Warwickshire’s Chief Executive, Stuart Cain, didn’t hold back his frustration, stating the club was under the impression that Hasan would not be featuring for Pakistan this summer.

ā€œThe Hasan Ali situation is very frustrating. We believed we had assurances he would not be involved with the Pakistan side this summer,ā€ Cain said.

He also touched on the growing challenge of securing overseas players for extended county stints, citing packed international calendars and the financial lure of global T20 leagues.

ā€œIt’s very hard to find players that will both improve the squad and be available for the majority of the summer. In years gone by, it was much easier to get quality overseas players for an entire season, and for season after season,ā€ he added.

Hasan, who first joined Warwickshire in 2023, made an instant impact, picking up 24 wickets in the first half of the County Championship.

But recurring injuries and national duties have restricted his availability in the T20 Blast over the past two seasons.

Warwickshire Head Coach Ian Westwood, speaking to a local news channel, expressed hope that Hasan would bring his PSL form into the Blast once he links up with the squad in June.

ā€œHe’s a Bear, he loves it here, and he’s a quality performer in all formats,ā€ Westwood said.

ā€œHe did well in the Championship previously, and we know his quality in T20s — both with the new ball and at the death. We’re looking forward to him joining us again.ā€

Warwickshire takes responsibility for Hasan Ali’s medical treatment

Pakistan’s injured fast bowler Hasan Ali has shared that his county team, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, has assumed responsibility for his rehabilitation and treatment.

The right-arm pacer is currently nursing an elbow injury, which he suffered in July during his county stint in England.

He could only play a mere three first-class and five T20 matches for Warwickshire due to the injury. He is scheduled to undergo full treatment for his elbow injury.

Hasan Ali returned to Pakistan and reached out to his national cricket board for treatment. However, the board advised him to seek treatment at Warwickshire.

According to sources, the board stated that the county side should bear the responsibility for Hasan Ali’s treatment, as he sustained the injury during county cricket.

The 30-year-old fast bowler is set to travel to England for medical treatment. Warwickshire will be managing all arrangements and ensuring his complete treatment under their supervision.

Hasan Ali’s contract was renewed ahead of the 2024 season after playing for Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears last year.

Hasan Ali took 33 wickets across formats in his first season at Warwickshire last year.

Prior to that, he represented Lancashire in the previous edition of the County Championship and took 25 wickets at 20.60 in his debut season.

Aamer Jamal’s stint with Warwickshire cut short due to injury

Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal left Warwickshire midway due to a back injury he sustained in the ongoing cricket season.

Jamal joined Warwickshire after a sensational Test debut on Pakistan’s tour to Australia where he picked up 18 wickets in three matches.

However, the Pakistan all-rounder could only represent Warwickshire in two County Championship matches and one Vitality Blast fixture.

He was last seen in action for the side on June 8 and has been sidelined since then as he suffered a back injury.

Notably, Aamer Jamal’s contract with Warwickshire was originally supposed to expire on July 19 but his rehabilitation progress indicated that he would not be able to attain complete fitness by then and thus the contract was mutually terminated prematurely.

“This is my first experience with a significant injury, and it’s been challenging to accept. I’m now focused on getting back to full fitness and resuming play,” Jamal was quoted saying by Warwickshire.

“I would have liked my time with the Bears to have gone differently, but I appreciate the support from everyone at the club and wish them success for the rest of the season,” he added.

Warwickshire performance director Gavin Larsen praised Jamal’s determination and attitude throughout his injury and rehabilitation before expressing his desire that the all-rounder will recover soon to be able to represent his country.

“Aamir has worked incredibly hard with our medical and strength and conditioning team,” said Larsen, “but unfortunately, we’ve run out of time to get him back on the field and bowling at full pace,” stated Larsen.

ā€œIt’s disappointing because he showed tremendous potential in Australia with his pace and aggression. I know he’s very disappointed not to have demonstrated his capabilities to the Bears fans.

ā€œWe can’t fault Aamir’s attitude during his rehab. I am confident he will return fit and ready to represent Pakistan soon. We wish him all the best.ā€
