Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the national team on clinching the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 title.

Naqvi took to the social media platform X to share his thoughts on the team’s victory, marking their record sixth win in the tournament’s history.

“A fantastic display of skill, passion, and teamwork truly showcasing Pakistan’s cricketing spirit at its best.”

Opting to bat first, Pakistan racked up a mammoth 135 for 3 in their allotted six overs.

Captain Abbas Afridi spearheaded the team’s efforts with an outstanding performance, scoring 52 runs off a mere 11 balls and launching seven colossal sixes before leaving the field due to injury.

Abdul Samad also made a significant impact with 42 runs from 13 balls, while Khawaja Nafay chipped in with a brisk 22 runs off just six deliveries, as Pakistan’s top order dominated the Kuwaiti bowling lineup.

Despite Meet Bhavsar’s three-wicket haul, the Kuwaiti bowlers found it challenging to keep pace with Pakistan’s explosive batting, which recorded an exceptional run rate of 22.5 runs per over.

Kuwait fought valiantly in response but could only score 92 runs in five overs. Bhavsar finished the innings not out with 33 runs, and Adnan Idrees added a quick 30 runs.

For Pakistan, Maaz Sadaqat stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs, while Abbas Afridi and Muhammad Shahzad each claimed one wicket.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan triumphed over Australia in a nail-biting semi-final, winning by only a single run.

Khawaja Nafay was instrumental in this victory, scoring an impressive 50 runs off just 14 balls, helping Pakistan post a total of 121 for 2.

India adamant on not taking Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi

The deadlock between India and Pakistan over the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy continued on Wednesday, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to accept the silverware from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi.

According to reports, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has written a letter to the ACC, requesting that the Trophy be handed over directly to India.

“If the trophy is not received, the matter will be raised with the ICC,” Saikia told reporters.

Meanwhile, ACC has offered BCCI to receive the trophy at a formal ceremony in Dubai on November 10.

For the unversed, the standoff for the trophy arose from India’s decision not to collect their winners’ medals and trophy following their triumph in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan on September 29 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Despite India’s stance, the ACC has maintained its position, with sources suggesting that President Naqvi is unwilling to make any exceptions or alter standard presentation protocols.

India had defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final, chasing down a 147-run target in 19.4 overs after bowling out the Men in Green for 146 runs in 19.1 overs.

The continental tournament was shrouded in controversy from the start, beginning with India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision not to shake hands with Pakistan in their first encounter.

On the contrary, Pakistan also threatened to boycott the tournament at one stage. The situation persisted and continued after the summit clash.

Mohsin Naqvi to pay Haris Rauf’s fine personally: sources

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly taken the unusual step of personally covering the fine imposed on pacer Haris Rauf by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following disciplinary action in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

Rauf was docked 30% of his match fee after being found guilty of making inappropriate gestures toward Indian fans during Pakistan’s Super Four clash against India.

Sources confirmed that Naqvi, in a show of support, has pledged to pay not only Rauf’s fine but also any future ICC-imposed penalties on Pakistani players from his own funds.

The ICC conducted hearings on Friday into incidents involving Haris Rauf and top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan.

While Rauf was penalised financially, Farhan escaped with only a formal warning after celebrating his half-century with a “gunfire gesture” using his bat.

Match referee Richie Richardson deemed the action inappropriate but not warranting a monetary penalty.

Disciplinary action was not confined to Pakistan’s camp. India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was also fined 30% of his match fee for post-match remarks laced with political undertones.

His comments referencing the armed forces drew a sharp reaction from the PCB, which argued that the remarks went beyond the spirit of the game and urged the ICC to consider a Level 4 sanction, the most serious category of offence under its code.

‘Pakistan’s honour preserved’, says Mohsin Naqvi following Pycroft’s apology

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday said that the ‘nation’s honour is preserved’ after Zimbabwean match referee Andy Pycroft apologised to Pakistan cricket team manager and captain.

Addressing the media in a press conference alongside former PCB chairmen Ramiz Raja and Najam Sethi, Naqvi emphasized that cricket must remain free from politics, stressing that the game should not be turned into a political platform.

“Our focus should be on cricket, not politics. Sports and politics cannot go hand in hand; let’s keep cricket as a sport only,” Naqvi said.

“I consulted with former chairmen Najam Sethi and Ramiz Raja regarding the situation. Thank God, Pakistan’s honour has been preserved, and now we expect the team to perform at their best,” he added.

Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi echoed Naqvi’s views, stating that cricket has won.

“Our stance has always been that politics should not interfere in sports. This has been our clear position from the start. Cricket has won, and we must continue the game. We accepted the apology in the spirit of sportsmanship.”

Ramiz Raja, meanwhile, called it a victory for Pakistan, stressing on team performance.

“This is a victory for Pakistan. Whatever emotions were hurt, the focus now must be on team performance. Cricket should remain cricket, not a political platform. Now everyone’s attention should be on cricket; the team must deliver on the field,” Raja stated.

For context, match referee Andy Pycroft apologised before the toss of Pakistan-UAE to the Pakistan cricket team’s manager and captain after the recent handshake row.

Acknowledging the incident of 14 September, Pycroft termed it a “miscommunication” and expressed regret over the matter.

Pycroft had previously instructed both captains not to shake hands during the high-profile India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash, a move that sparked outrage from the PCB.
