Tayyab Tahir thanks Karachi Kings for maiden T20I call-up

LAHORE: Young batter Tayyab Tahir has expressed his gratitude to Karachi Kings for giving him a chance to prove his mettle in the Pakistan Super League season 8 and pave the way for his selection in the national team.

Tayyab received his maiden call-up to Pakistan’s T20I side for the three-match series against Afghanistan in Sharjah later this month.

“First of all, I want to thank Karachi Kings fans for supporting us throughout the tournament,” said Tayyab in a video message shared by Karachi Kings on their official Twitter account on Tuesday.

The right-hander added he was grateful to the Kings’ management for providing him with an opportunity to perform on the biggest cricketing stage in the country.

“I get a chance in the national team on this basis,” he acknowledged.

Moreover, he urged the Karachi Kings’ fans to keep supporting the franchise and hoped that he would do well on the international stage.

“I will try to do my best for the Pakistan team as well and make the country proud” he expressed.

It may be noted here Pakistan named a new-look 15-member squad under the captaincy of Shadab Khan for the forthcoming T20I series against Afghanistan.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, along with Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi are given rest while four uncapped players, namely, Ihsanullah, Saim Ayub, Tayyab Tahir and Zaman Khan are included in the squad.

Whereas, Abdullah Shafique, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim have been recalled to the national T20I side.

Shan earns call-up as PCB unveils squads for T20 WC, England T20Is

LAHORE: Pakistan left-handed batter Shan Masood earned a call-up into the national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and the scheduled Tri-Series in New Zealand.

The chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohammad Waseem unveiled the much-anticipated squad for the green shirts’ upcoming assignments including ICC T20 World Cup, Tri-Series in New Zealand, and home T20I series against England at a scheduled press conference at Gaddafi Stadium here.

Shan, who has been piling runs in the domestic circuit and global leagues, earned a much-awaited call-up into the national squad and replaced Fakhar Zaman, who has been kept in the reserves for the mega event alongside Mohammad Haris and Shanawaz Dahani.

All of the players who will travel for the World Cup will also represent Pakistan in the home T20I series against England with the exception of Fakhar and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

According to their plan to reward top players, the selectors have replaced them with Northern’s all-rounder Aamir Jamal and Sindh’s spinner Abrar Ahmed.

Waseem, while announcing the national contingent for the upcoming assignments, claimed that players who have been part of the side have been backed.

“Our team has been consistently performing well since the last World T20. After the last World T20, we started preparing for the World T20 in Australia. So, we have kept our faith in players who have been playing consistently,” he said.

“Our team has defeated India in World Cup and Asia Cup. We have full confidence in our team and hope the team will perform well,” he maintained.

PCB to announce squad for T20 WC, England T20Is tomorrow

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will unveil the much-awaited squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on the deadline of September 15.

According to the PCB, chief selector, Mohammad Wasim will reveal the national contingent while holding a press conference at the Far-End building at the Gaddafi Stadium here at 4:30 pm on Thursday.

The announced squad will also represent Pakistan in the upcoming home T20I series against England and also in the Tri-Series in New Zealand.

It is pertinent to mention here that the recent dip in the players’ performance and fitness had created problems for the selection committee and the consultation process could not be completed today.

Furthermore, the injury voes among the national players added further to the misery of the committee as the star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi could not start bowling in the nets as of yet and is currently undergoing rehabilitation in the United Kingdom (UK).

Hasan dropped as PCB reveals squads for Asia Cup, Netherlands ODIs

LAHORE: Pacer Naseem Shah replaced Hasan Ali as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced national squads for Pakistan’s upcoming ODI tour of the Netherlands and T20 Asia Cup 2022 in UAE, here on Wednesday.

According to PCB, Naseem will join Babar Azam-led national squads as a replacement for out-of-form Hasan while all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has been recalled to the white-ball side for the ODI matches against the Netherlands.

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who suffered a knee injury during the Sri Lanka tour, has been named in both squads, although he has been undergoing a rehabilitation programme overseen by the team trainer and physiotherapist, who will decide on his return to international cricket.

Meanwhile, there will be five changes in the national contingent travelling from the Netherlands to UAE for the Asia Cup 2022. Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Qadir will take charge in place of Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha and Zahid Mehmood.

Furthermore, PCB also announced the schedule for the players’ training camp and the team’s departure for the forthcoming tasks.

The training camp will be held in Lahore from August 6 to 11 during which the players will engage in two 50-overs practice matches. The side will depart for Amsterdam in the wee hours of Friday, August 12. T20I players will join the squad in Dubai for the ACC T20 Asia Cup on August 22.

It is pertinent to mention here that the national team will play three ODI matches against the hosts in their upcoming tour of the Netherlands on August 16, 18 and 21. Whereas, the Green shirts will kick off their Asia Cup campaign on August 28 with a blockbuster clash against arch-rivals India.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam and the left-handed batter Fawad Alam put on an unbeaten 181-run partnership as their side frustrate Sarfaraz XI on the first day of the intra-squad scenario-based practice match on Monday.

In the scheduled two-day intra-squad scenario-based practice match, Babar XI put on a fine show with the bat as the side amassed 274-3 on the first day.

Batting first, the left-handed batter Imam-ul-Haq laid a solid foundation for a decent total with a brilliant half-century before the skipper Babar took control of the innings by himself and displayed class before going on to score a magnificent century.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Test squad for the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka, participated in a scenario-based two-day practice match to race up the preparations, here at Pindi Stadium on Monday.

The 17-member contingent splitter into two sides as the players raced up the preparations for the upcoming away Test series against Sri Lanka.

The scenario-based practice match will feature 90 overs each day and the players will be given a target by the coaches to train the players to perform according to the requirement.
