KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) revealed the official slogan for its upcoming eighth edition, scheduled to take place next year from February 9 to March 19.

‘Soch Hai Apki’ will define the brand new episode of the fastest-growing franchise cricket league around the world.

The much-awaited players’ Draft for the eighth edition of the PSL will begin shortly as the players and management of all six franchises have gathered in Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had already revealed the pick order for the drafts, where defending champions Lahore Qalandars will make the first pick followed by  Quetta Gladiators and 2021 champions Multan Sultans.

The champions of the 2020 edition, Karachi Kings will make the fourth pick, while two-time champions Islamabad United will have the fifth pick.

The 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, will make the last pick in the draft.

Furthermore, the marquee tournament is slated to take place next year with Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi selected as host venues for the eighth edition of PSL.

PSL 8 Draft: ‘We’ll pick players according to our team plans’ Wasim Akram

KARACHI: Legendary fast bowler and Karachi Kings President, Wasim Akram, has disclosed that his franchise will pick the players in today’s PSL Draft according to their team plans devised for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League. 

The much-awaited players’ Draft for the eighth edition of the PSL will begin shortly as the players and management of all six franchises have gathered in Karachi.

In an exclusive talk with ARY News before the Draft, Karachi Kings President said every team would be trying to pick the best players for their side.

“We will try to pick players according to our plans,” he said.

Wasim, popularly known as Sultan of Swing added that in franchise cricket, the teams kept on switching players and experimenting with new names.

Karachi Kings have already recruited veteran Shoaib Malik and promising Haider Ali with last season’s skipper Babar Azam in a trade with Peshawar Zalmi. Meanwhile, it has retained Imad Wasim, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Amir, Qasim Akram, Aamir Yamin and Mir Hamza.

Furthermore, Karachi Kings President hailed the marquee tournament for reaching new heights of popularity, saying PSL has become a big brand now around the globe.

“This time more prominent names are joining the Pakistan Super League,” he said.

Johan Botha named as Karachi Kings head coach for PSL 8

KARACHI: Former South African cricketer Johan Botha has been named as the head coach of the Karachi Kings for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League, confirmed the franchise on Twitter.

“Excited to announce Johan Botha as the Head Coach for the Karachi Kings for #HBLPSL8.” tweeted Karachi Kings on Thursday. 

“Welcome Johan! looking forward to a great season with you!” it added.

Botha had earlier served Karachi Kings as fielding coach in the 2017 and 2020 seasons of the PSL. 

Meanwhile, the players’ draft of the upcoming PSL 8 will be held in Karachi on Thursday.

Fakhar headlines list of players in platinum category for PSL 8 Draft

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday released the list of players placed in the platinum category for the upcoming Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) season 8 Draft, left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman included.

A total of 35 renowned players, including Pakistan’s left-handed batter Fakhar, are listed in the platinum category for the PSL 8 Draft.

Notably, Fakhar was released by the PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars as they announced their retentions for the next edition, however, can recruit the left-handed opener as they will be having the first pick in the players’ draft.

The left-handed batter was adjudged the batter of the PSL 7 as he accumulated 588 runs at 45.23 with a hefty strike rate of 152.7.

He smashed seven half-centuries and a hundred for the Qalandars and played a crucial role in their maiden PSL title victory.

 

The much-awaited players’ draft for the next year’s edition of the PSL will be held in Karachi on December 15.

Babar Azam named Peshawar Zalmi’s captain for PSL 8

KARACHI: Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam has been named the skipper of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi for the upcoming eighth edition of the marquee league.

“Announcing [King Babar] as Peshawar Zalmi’s Captain for [PSL 8,” Peshawar Zalmi announced on Twitter.

 

Last month witnessed one of the biggest trades in the history of the PSL when Peshawar Zalmi recruited the most successful batter of the tournament Babar with former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik and enterprising batter Haider Ali.

Babar represented the Kings since the second edition of the marquee league after leaving Islamabad United after the inaugural edition.

Amid his run with the 2020 champions, Babar became the highest run-getter of the league as he accumulated 2413 runs in just 68 matches.

Notably, Babar led his former franchise Karachi Kings in the previous edition of PSL and also won the 2020 title under the captaincy of Kings’ captain Imad Wasim.

KARACHI: All-rounder Imad Wasim has been named as the captain of the Karachi Kings for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League, confirmed the franchise on Twitter.

“We are excited to announce Imad Wasim as our new captain. He will lead the Kings Squad in HPL PSL8,” tweeted Karachi Kings on Wednesday.
