PAK Vs NZ: I want to take wicket of every world-class batter’ Ihsanullah

LAHORE: Young pace sensation Ihsanullah expressed his desire to take the wickets of every world-class batter as he is poised to represent Pakistan in the home T20I and ODI series against New Zealand.

The 20-year-old, who impressed everyone with his express pace during the Pakistan Super League season 8, said it was an honour for him to be compared with Shoaib Akhtar, often dubbed as “Rawalpindi Express”.

“Shoaib Akhtar is our legend and no one can break his record,” he said in a press conference on Saturday after the team’s training session at National Cricket Academy.

“I feel happy when people use to peg my name with Shoaib Akhtar.”

Player of the PSL 8, Ihsanullah received his maiden call-up to the national ODI squad after making his T20I debut last month against Afghanistan. He took six scalps to finish as the leading wicket-getter in the three-match series.

The right-armer disclosed that he was working on yorker deliveries besides his lethal bouncers for the forthcoming series.

“I will try to bowl according to my own strengths and win matches for my team,” he said.

“Along with short-pitch deliveries, I am working on yorkers too. My aim is to take a wicket of every world-class batter”

He added, ” I’ve learned a lot from the bowlers like Shaheen and Haris after sharing the dressing room with them.”

Cricketer Ihsanullah caught the limelight when he forced Najibullah Zadran to retire hurt during Pakistan’s third T20I against Afghanistan, hitting him just below the grill of his helmet on a dangerous 147.5 kph bouncer.

“I went to him and said sorry to him in Pushto,” he disclosed.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ihasanullah will be featuring alongside fast bowling mainstays Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf for the first time if he gets a chance in the forthcoming T20I and ODI series against New Zealand.

The two teams will play five T20Is and as many ODIs across three venues from from 14 April to 7 May.

PAK vs NZ: Aleem Dar among match officials named for Pakistan-New Zealand series

LAHORE: Renowned umpire Aleem Dar will continue to officiate in Pakistan’s upcoming home international fixtures against New Zealand, two days after he stepped down from ICC Elite Panel after 19 years. 

Aleem, who officiated his last match as an elite panel umpire on Friday in Bangladesh, was named in the umpiring panel for the T20I and ODI series along with Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, Faisal Afridi, Langton Rusere, Joel Wilson, Rashid Riaz.

Amongst the umpires to officiate in the two series, Ahsan and Wilson are the members of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires, while others are members of the ICC International Panel of Umpires, announced Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Former Test cricketers and respected match referees Ali Naqvi and Chris Broad will lead the playing control teams in the upcoming white-ball series between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Ali Naqvi will be the match referee in the five T20Is – spread over Lahore and Rawalpindi – in which Ahsan Raza, Aleem Dar, Asif Yaqoob, Faisal Afridi and Rashid Riaz will take up on-field umpiring duties.

Chris Broad, member of ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, will return to Pakistan for the first time in 14 years to officiate the five ODIs to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi.

It may be noted here that Pakistan will play five T20 Internationals and and as many One-Day International against the Black Caps from April 14 to May 7.

LAHORE: Pakistan Under-19 Men’s cricket team on Saturday, held its first training session at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

In the first session of the ongoing camp at the NCA, coach Sabih Azhar and team manager Tauseef Ahmed gave briefing to the players regarding the camp.

The junior players engaged in rigorous batting, fielding and bowling drills throughout the day as they gear up for the upcoming away assignment against Bangladesh.

It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan U19 team, under the leadership of Said Baig, will tour Bangladesh to play one four-dayer, five One Day and one T20 from April 30 to May 17 in Chittagong and Rajshahi.

Saim Ayub wants to be idolized like legend Saeed Anwar

LAHORE: Pakistan’s young dynamic batter Saim Ayub asserted that he watched the videos of Saeed Anwar’s batting and wants to be idolized like the legendary batter.

Saim interacted with the media ahead of Pakistan’s squad’s first training session for the upcoming home series against New Zealand and responded to a question regarding his comparison with batting great Saeed.

“Look, I have watched the videos of Saeed Anwar. I mostly watch videos of left-handers. But, at some point, he was also my age and was famous as I am now,” stated Saim.

“So, the way he became a legend, I will try to make a name for myself and people idolize me,” he added.

The young left-handed batter also expressed his delight over getting retained in the T20I squad and shared that he was willing to take any role in the national team.

“I am really excited to play my second international series. I am ready to take any role in the team. I am focused to play and perform,” stated Saim Ayub.

Saim Ayub also reflected upon his experience of playing under the leadership of Babar Azam during his stint with Peshawar Zalmi in the recently-held eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), stated that he enjoyed batting alongside Pakistan captain.

“I enjoyed a lot while playing alongside Babar under his captaincy,” shared Saim Ayub.

“Babar gives a lot of confidence. So far, I have enjoyed my time with Babar and I hope it will continue for a long period of time,” he added.

A promising season with the bat in the PSL 8, in which he scored 341 runs in 12 matches, at a strike rate of 165.53 with the help of five half-centuries, earned Saim his maiden national call-up.

The left-handed batter opened the innings for Pakistan in the three-match series against Afghanistan and scored 66 runs in as many matches, including a sensible 49-run knock in the final fixture.

Kyle Mills included as PCB unveils commentary panel for New Zealand series

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday, unveiled the seven-member commentary panel for the home white ball series against New Zealand, which also featured former Kiwi pacer, Kyle Mills.

Pakistan men’s cricket team are up for a major white-ball assignment as the green shirts take on New Zealand in a five-match each T20I and ODI series, scheduled from April 14 to May 7.

According to the PCB, Pakistan’s renowned commentators Bazid Khan, Sikander Bakht and Urooj Mumtaz will be joined by their Kiwi counterparts Mills, Grant Elliot, Lisa Sthalekar and Mark Butcher.

Former pacer Mills will only be available to commentate during the T20I series while Lisa Sthalekar and Mark Butcher will call action across the ODI series.

Renowned presenter Zainab Abbas will host pre- and post-match shows, including Pitch Side which will continue to bring in-depth analysis for cricket fans.

Twenty-seven full High-Definition cameras will beam live action around the globe through PCB’s broadcast partners. The production set-up includes complete Hawkeye review system, buggy cam and SpiderCam, which is available for three T20Is in Lahore and three ODIs in Karachi.

New Zealand will arrive in Pakistan in the wee hours of 11 April. The two teams will play first three of the five T20Is in Lahore. Rawalpindi will host the last two T20Is and the first two ODIs, before the action moves to the port-city of Karachi, which hosts last three ODIs.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday, unveiled the team management for the upcoming home white-ball series against New Zealand, scheduled to commence on April 14.

Renowned analyst, who previously served as the General Manager of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United, has been named as the manager of the national men’s team.

Rehan replaced Mansoor Rana as the national team’s manager.

Besides Rehan, the PCB also confirmed the support and coaching staff for the national team.

Grant Bradburn, the national men’s team’s potential assistant coach will take up the reins of the head coach while Abdul Rehman will serve as his assistant coach following the former’s arrival. Whereas, Andrew Puttick will serve as the batting coach.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul, who was named as the bowling coach in the team’s coaching setup for the recently-held Afghanistan series will continue his new role with the national team.

According to the details, a few changes are expected in the recently-announced management following the arrival of Mickey Arthur.

Meanwhile, the PCB also confirmed that Bradburn and Mr Puttick have been appointed for the New Zealand series and will arrive in Lahore on 11 April.

New Zealand series-bound players to start to report at NCA today

LAHORE: Pakistan squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against New Zealand will report at National Cricket Academy (NCA) today before starting their preparations for home assignment.

According to the details, players from other cities will start to assemble at the training camp tonight.

Abdullah Shafique and Faheem Ashraf will join the camp tomorrow while Fakhar Zaman will join the camp on April 10.

Pakistan’s head coach for the recently-concluded T20I series against Afghanistan Abdul Rehman will supervise the national men’s team’s training camp while bowling coach Umar Gul will assist him.

The New Zealand series-bound squad will partake in the three-day training camp from April 7 to 10 before playing an intra-squad match on the final day of the camp.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to appoint former right-arm pacer Aizaz Cheema as the head coach of the Pakistan Shaheens for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

Taking up the reins of Pakistan Shaheens, Aizaz will lead the coaching staff which includes trainer Saboor Ahmed, Physiotherapist Muhammad Asad and Team Analyst Faisal Rai, while the team manager is yet to be appointed.

Opening batter Imran Butt will lead the Shaheens’ squad which features prominent cricketers including Shahnawaz Dahani, Hussain Talat and Mir Hamza.

The Shaheens will kick off their training on Saturday in Karachi before their aforementioned international tour. The players will take part in an 11-day camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Center, till April 18.

The side will then travel to Zimbabwe where they will play two four-dayers and six 50-over matches from May 3 to 27.

Nida named Women’s team’s captain, Coles returns as head coach

LAHORE: Veteran all-rounder Nida Dar has been appointed as the national women’s team’s captain Mark Coles has been confirmed as the head coach while former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar has been named as the chair of the Women’s Selection Committee.

The key appointments, approved by the Chair of the PCB Management Committee Najam Sethi, have been made in light of the PCB’s vision and strategy to invest further into women’s cricket and keeping in mind the upcoming international assignments, including hosting South Africa and tours to Bangladesh and New Zealand for the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 fixtures.

Overall, in an 11-month period from August 2023 to July 2024, Pakistan women’s team is scheduled to play five bilateral cricket series comprising a total of 15 ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 ODIs. In addition to these 50-over matches, Pakistan will play as many as 17 T20Is. These ODIs and T20Is will lead to the 10-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and eight-team ICC Women’s World Cup in India, which will be held in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

NIDA DAR

Nida won the PCB Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021 and replaces Bismah Maroof, who stepped down from captaincy following the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. Nida is one of the most experienced players in the country, having represented Pakistan in 130 T20Is and 99 ODIs.

She is also the leading wicket-taker in T20I women’s cricket with 126 wickets to her name.

Nida was also a member of the Pakistan side’s that won the Asian Games gold in 2010 and 2014 in Guangzhou, China, and Incheon, South Korea. In 2019, she became the first Pakistan women’s cricketer to feature in Australia’s women’s franchise cricket.

In the ICC Women’s Rankings, Nida is presently ranked 32nd, 24th and ninth in ODI batters, bowlers and all-rounders’ categories, respectively. In T20Is, Nida is the 38th ranked batter, 21st ranked bowler and seventh ranked all-rounder.

 

“I am honored to have been appointed as the captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team. It is a huge responsibility, and I am excited to lead the team in the upcoming events. I want to thank the PCB for entrusting me with this responsibility and will do my best to take the team forward.

“I also want to thank Bismah Maroof for her services as the captain of the team. She has done a fantastic job, and I hope to continue her legacy and lead the team with the same passion and commitment.

MARK COLES

Coles previously served as Pakistan women’s cricket team head coach from 2017 to 2019 and during his time, the side achieved major results, including a fifth finish in the ICC Women’s Championship 2017-2020 that paved the way for the side to feature in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

Also during his time, Sana Mir became the most successful ODI spinner in the world, Javeria Khan and Bismah Maroof were named to lead a multi-nation Women’s Global Development squad and Nida Dar became the first Pakistan woman player to earn a contract in the WBBL.

Present members of Coles’ coaching team are Mohtashim Rasheed (fielding coach), Taufeeq Umar (batting coach) and Saleem Jaffar (bowling coach).

Saleem Jaffar will head the selection panel, which also includes Asmavia Iqbal, Marina Iqbal and Mohtashim Rasheed.

Saleem has had a few stints with the women’s side, with the last being as interim head coach at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup South Africa. As an international cricketer, Saleem took 36 wickets in 14 Tests and 40 wickets in 39 ODIs from 1986 to 1992.

“These are exciting times to work in women’s cricket as not only a lot of competitive cricket is lined-up, but we have in our pool some young but extremely talented and skilled cricketers, who have all the ingredients to become top-ranked international players.  It is our collective responsibility to help them achieve their career objectives and targets, and as chair of the selection committee and bowling coach, I look forward to this challenge.”
