Alyssa Healy breaks silence on IPL chaos amid India-Pakistan tensions

Australia women’s cricket captain Alyssa Healy has shared chilling details of the chaos that unfolded in Dharamsala last week, when rising tensions between India and Pakistan brought the IPL 2025 to an unexpected halt.

The incident occurred on May 8 during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.

The game was midway through the 11th over when floodlights suddenly went out at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. Fans were asked to evacuate, and shortly after, the match was suspended.

The next morning, the BCCI announced an immediate suspension of IPL 2025. However, following a ceasefire agreement on May 10, the board confirmed that the tournament will resume on May 17.

Speaking on The Willow Talk podcast, Alyssa Healy, who was in Dharamsala to support her husband, Australia pacer Mitchell Starc, described the disturbing scenes that unfolded.

“It was a surreal experience,” she said. “All of a sudden, a couple of the light towers went out and we were just sitting there up the top…”

“The guy who wrangles our group came up, and his face was white. He said, ‘We need to go right now.’ Another guy grabbed one of the children and repeated the same. We had no idea what was going on.”

The players and their families were rushed into a holding room inside the stadium.

“All the boys were in there. Faf (du Plessis) didn’t even have shoes on. We were all just looking around, stressed,” she added.

“I asked Mitch [Mitchell Starc] what was happening, and he said, ‘The town 60 km away just got hit by missiles.’ The Dharamsala stadium was basically a beacon, so they shut the power.”

What followed was a hasty and anxiety-filled evacuation. Players, support staff, franchise officials, and broadcasters were bundled into vans and later escorted out of Dharamsala via a special Vande Bharat train arranged by BCCI in coordination with the Ministry of Railways.

Healy recalled that the journey to safety wasn’t any less tense.

“We ended up going southwest towards the border, which was a little bit terrifying,” she further stated.

“Mitch and I have played too much Call of Duty, so we were noticing all the surface-to-air missile sites. A few were just sitting there in small towns, radar-operated systems ready to go.”

PSL 10’s resumption on horizon as PCB considers options

The uncertainty surrounding the remaining matches of PSL 10 may soon be addressed, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started initial groundwork to finalise the schedule, but a concrete timeline is yet to be confirmed.

According to ARY News, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Super League, Salman Naseer, has reached out to franchise representatives to gather updates on the current whereabouts and availability of their players.

The board’s priority, for now, is to assess the logistics and ensure that all key players can be part of the competition’s resumption.

Franchise sources have revealed that Naseer has formally requested all six PSL teams to submit updated player status reports.

This step is seen as crucial in chalking out the plan for the tournament’s remaining fixtures, which were earlier postponed due to escalating cross-border tensions between Pakistan and India.

While tensions have eased following a ceasefire on Saturday, and the PCB is actively working behind the scenes, the revised schedule of the PSL 10 has not yet been released.

PCB, BCB in talks amid uncertainty over Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been engaged in active discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for Bangladesh’s upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan later this month.

The tensions between India and Pakistan reached fever-pitch following an attack last month in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) town of Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists.

However, the situation returned to normal after an immediate ceasefire on Saturday, following days of deadly jet fighter, missile, drone and artillery attacks.

In a statement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board emphasized the safety and security of its players as the board’s foremost priority.

“The BCB wishes to reiterate that the safety and security of its players and support staff remain the Board’s highest priority,” the board said in an official statement on Saturday.

“All decisions concerning the tour will be made with careful consideration of the current situation in Pakistan, ensuring they align with the best interests of the team and Bangladesh cricket,” it added.

It is pertinent to mention that Bangladesh are scheduled to head to Pakistan on 21 May for a five-match T20I series. However, the tensions between India and Pakistan have cast doubt on this tour.

Bangladesh will play across two venues in Pakistan, Faisalabad and Lahore. Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad will stage the first and second T20Is of the series, scheduled.

The Bangladesh team is set to travel to Dubai later this week for a two-match T20I series.

Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain, both part of PSL 10, returned home on Friday after the league’s indefinite postponement.

Both players will leave for the UAE with the rest of the Bangladesh squad on Wednesday.

However, Rishad and Nahid will be unavailable if the PSL resumes, mainly due to Bangladesh’s international commitments.

Saim Ayub picks only one Pakistani player in his T20I World XI

Peshawar Zalmi’s stylish left-hander Saim Ayub has revealed his dream T20I World XI, which surprisingly includes just one player from his home country, Pakistan.

Making an appearance on the Off Topic Zalmi Podcast, Saim was asked to name a T20I XI consisting of currently active players, with the restriction that no more than two players could be selected from a single country.

Even with that caveat, the 21-year-old opted for only one compatriot, opening batter Fakhar Zaman, in his fantasy XI.

Saim paired Fakhar with Australia’s dynamic Travis Head at the top, forming an explosive opening duo.

For the No. 3 spot, Saim Ayub went with England’s hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, followed by West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran and South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen, two of the most dangerous middle-order hitters in the game.

At No. 6 came England’s Ben Stokes, who is known for his presence and temperament in big moments.

He also showed great faith in modern T20 all-rounders by picking India’s Hardik Pandya, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, and New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner to control the middle overs.

For the pace battery, he trusted two left-arm giants in T20I cricket, India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Mitchell Starc.
