Multan Sultans thump Lahore Qalandars to secure first win in PSL 10

MULTAN: Ubaid Shah’s three-wicket haul and Yasir Khan’s explosive 87 powered Multan Sultans to a 33-run victory over Lahore Qalandars in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Multan Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Lahore Qalandars sensed a comeback by taking wickets of Yasir Khan and Ashton Turner. Yasir was caught after an eye-catching knock of 87 in 44 balls. His blazing knock was laced with six fours and half a dozen sixes.

Karachi Kings successfully chased down 148 runs, losing eight wickets with three balls to spare on a challenging batting surface.

Pakistan defeat Bangladesh to remain unbeaten in Women’s World Cup Qualifier

Pakistan wrapped up their ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier campaign on a high, outclassing Bangladesh by seven wickets in their final group match at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground on Saturday.

Already through to the ICC Women’s World Cup in India later this year, Pakistan showed no signs of complacency as they produced another disciplined all-round performance to maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Asked to bowl first after Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana won the toss, Pakistan’s bowlers responded brilliantly.

Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal was the pick of the attack, finishing with impressive figures of 3/28 in her 10 overs, while skipper Fatima Sana and Diana Baig chipped in with two wickets each.

Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu bagged one apiece as Bangladesh limped to 178/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Only Ritu Moni (48 off 76) and Fahima Khatun (44* off 53) offered any resistance with the bat, but the lack of partnerships at the top proved costly in what was a must-win game for Bangladesh.

In reply, Pakistan made light work of the chase to remain unbeaten in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.

Muneeba Ali anchored the innings with a classy 69 off 93 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries, while Aliya Riaz guided the side home with an unbeaten 52 off 65, hitting six fours and a six.

Sidra Amin also contributed a steady 33 at the top to ensure the hosts were always ahead of the game. Pakistan reached the target with 62 balls to spare, losing just three wickets in the process.

For Bangladesh, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, and Marufa Akter claimed a wicket each, but there was little joy for their camp as they now face an anxious wait.

With just one spot remaining, Bangladesh’s hopes of qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup now hinge on the result of the final match between West Indies and Thailand.

If the West Indies manage a big win, they could leapfrog Bangladesh into the second spot and book their ticket to the World Cup alongside Pakistan.

Chasing a challenging target of 176, Quetta Gladiators were restricted to 119 for the 9 in their 20 overs.
The Gladiators never looked comfortable during the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Karachi Kings’ bowlers wreaked havoc early on, picking up wickets in the powerplay.

Quetta Gladiators lost their opener, Finn Allen (6), in the very first over. After an early wicket, hopes were pinned on emerging batter Hasan Nawaz to steady the innings. However, he was dismissed off Hasan Ali’s bowling, thanks to a spectacular catch by Khushdil Shah.

The embattled side skipper Saud remained unbeaten on 33 off 40 balls, striking three fours.

For Karachi Kings, Hasan Ali emerged as the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 27 runs in his four overs. Mohammad Nabi also contributed significantly, taking two wickets while conceding just seven runs in his four overs.

David Warner struck five fours on his way to a well-made 31 off 20 deliveries. After failing to contain the Kings’ batters in the early overs, the Gladiators struck once the spinners were introduced.

Seifert was also dismissed in the sixth over, thanks to a peach of a delivery from Saud Shakeel. Karachi Kings failed to capitalize on a good start and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Young batter Muhammad Riazullah (6), Khushdil Shah (1) went in quick succession, courtesy of brilliant bowling from mystery spinner Ali Majid.

However, James Vince remained firm on one end and went on to score his second-half century of the season. He forged a 34-run partnership with Irfan Khan. Irfan was dismissed on 17 off 12 balls, hitting one six.

Here’s what inspired Imad Wasim’s viral PSL 10 celebrations

Speaking in an interview with PSL’s official YouTube channel, the 36-year-old revealed that his celebrations aren’t spontaneous but are actually choreographed in advance, and rooted in PlayStation FIFA sessions shared with teammates and support staff.

“Our celebrations are actually planned in advance with the whole team, including the management,” Imad revealed.

“We spend a lot of our downtime playing FIFA together, so I should clarify, these aren’t random acts. Each player has their own celebration this season, and I’ve chosen to pay tribute to footballers Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappé.”

The veteran left-arm spinner emphasised that these antics are all part of a larger effort to strengthen the team culture.

“Before each match, we decide as a group which celebration I’ll use if I take wickets. It’s all part of our team bonding and having fun with our performances,” he added.

While the celebrations have caught fans’ attention, Imad Wasim has backed it up with quality performances on the field, grabbing six wickets in three matches, including a standout 3/26.

Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan, who was also present during the chat, expressed satisfaction with the team’s strong start to the tournament.
