Asalanka’s half-century in vain as Bangla Tigers edge Chennai Braves

ABU DHABI: Chennai Braves’ skipper Charith Asalanka’s half-century went in vain as a combined bowling effort by Bangla Tigers led them to victory by 27 runs in the Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Chennai Braves opted to field first and reduced Bangla Tigers to 29-2 inside four overs after Robin Uthappa’s cameo of 20 runs from 14 balls.

Mohammad Nabi dismissed Avishka Fernando in the next over to further halt the Tigers’ recovery.

However, the Sri Lankan duo of Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka then raised a quick-fire partnership of 52 runs from 24 balls to raise the team’s total to 99 in the ninth over.

Nabi struck again as he removed both set batters in the same over before Benny Howell struck 16 off 3 in the last over to drag the team’s total to 126-5 in their ten overs.

Shanaka top-scored with 34 runs from 15 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes, while Mendis scored 32 off 15, featuring two boundaries and as many sixes.

Nabi was the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 3-15.

While chasing a mammoth 128, Chennai Braves lost early wickets and slipped to 35-4 in the fifth over as Haider Ali dismissed Kobe Herft and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the same over.

Braves’ skipper Charith Asalanka waged a lone war from his end but could not find enough support from the other end.

Asalanka played a valiant 55-run knock from 26 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes before getting out on the penultimate ball.

Vriitya Aravind was the only other batter to reach double figures with an unbeaten 12 runs from six balls.

Bangla Tigers bowlers restricted Chennai Braves to score 99-6 with Haider Ali leading the bowling charts with 2-17.

ABU DHABI: Morrisville Samp Army skipper Moeen Ali and Karim Janat played quick cameos to steer their side to an eight-wicket win over Deccan Gladiators in the 24th Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

This was Samp Army’s fifth consecutive victory in the ongoing season of the Abu Dhabi T10 League after losing their opening game.

Samp Army opted to bowl first and drew first blood with the wicket of Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the first over with ten runs on the board.

Andre Fletcher joined hands with Nicholas Pooran (11) and together they added 36 runs from 11 balls before Karim Janat removed the latter.

Fletcher then waged a lone war as Salman Irshad sent Andre Russell and Imad Wasim back in the same over to reduce Deccan Gladiators to 51-4.

Fletcher counter-attacked Samp Army while wickets kept tumbling on the other end and helped them raise an imposing total of 115 in their ten overs.

He scored an unbeaten 52 from 27 balls with the help of two boundaries and five sixes.

Salman Irshad led Samp Army’s bowling attack with brilliant bowling figures of 3-12, meanwhile, Qais Ahmed picked 2-18.

Samp Army had a horrible start to their chase as Imad Wasim reduced them to 17-2 with back-to-back wickets of Andries Gous and Najibullah Zadran.

Faf du Plessis departed in the next over after scoring 13 off 11 with one six.

Gladiators skipper Moeen Ali and Ibrahim Zadran then knitted a blistering 49-run partnership from 20 balls to raise the team’s total to 70 before the latter perished.

Zadran scored 26 runs from 15 balls with the help of one boundary and two sixes.

Ali was joined by Karim Janat and together they helped their team reach the finish line with four balls to spare courtesy of their quick 46 runs partnership from 17 balls.

Moeen Ali scored an unbeaten 39 runs from 15 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes, while Janat played a blistering 27-run knock from nine balls, featuring four boundaries and one six.

Imad Wasim topped the bowling charts for Gladiators with bowling figures of 2-11.

ABU DHABI: Mohammad Amir returned with impressive bowling figures of 4-7, followed by Asif Ali’s 23 off 13 to guide New York Strikers to a five-wicket victory over Chennai Braves in the 23rd Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

New York Strikers jumped to the top of the Abu Dhabi T10 League points table with five victories from six matches.

Strikers opted to bowl first after winning the toss and Amir proved the decision right as his first over saw four wickets falling, which reduced Chennai Braves to 6-4.

Kobe Herft got run out before Amir got three caught-behind wickets during the same over.

Jason Roy and Sikandar Raza then knitted a 30-run partnership before Narine dismissed the latter at a total of 36.

Amir then returned to attack and castled settled batter Roy to dent Chennai Braves’ recovery.

Jason Roy top-scored with 18 runs from 16 balls including a solitary boundary.

Mohammad Nabi and Aayan Afzal Khan then scored 13 each to help drag the team’s total to 75 at the loss of nine wickets in their accumulative ten overs.

Amir topped the bowling charts with his four wickets while Narine and Muhammad Jawadullah picked one wicket each.

However, Strikers had a horrible start to their chase as Sam Cook sent both of their opening batters back within the first three balls of the innings.

Muhammad Waseem and Mark Deyal added 29 off 20 before Mohammad Nabi removed the former to reduce the Strikers to 30-3.

Deyal was then dismissed by Junaid Siddique after scoring 19 off 18.

Asif Ali held on to his end and scored an unbeaten 23 runs from 13 balls with one boundary and one six to help his team chase the target with nine balls to spare.

Cook and Siddique picked two wickets each for Chennai Braves.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s blitz powers Deccan Gladiators to a thumping victory

ABU DHABI: Deccan Gladiators’ Tom Kohler-Cadmore played a blistering 69-run knock to guide them to a dominant eight-wicket victory over Northern Warriors in the 21st Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Deccan Gladiators after opting to bowl reduced Northern Warriors to 12-3 in the second over.

Pace bowler Nuwan Thushara led the destruction with a triple-wicket over which saw Kennar Lewis and Hazratullah Zazai getting their stumps uprooted before Josh Cobb was run out.

James Neesham and Angelo Mathews (29) then joined hands and raised a 50-run stand for the fourth wicket to push the team’s total to 62 before the latter was removed by Thushara.

Thushara extended his wicket’s tally to four as he dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai in the same over as Mathews.

Neesham then added 31 runs with Rahul Chopra before getting out on the penultimate ball of the innings after scoring 31 off 23 with one boundary and one six.

Chopra remained unbeaten at 14 runs from seven balls with two boundaries and one six to see the Warriors finishing their ten overs with a total of 100-6.

Thushara was the only wicket-taking bowler among Gladiators with brilliant figures of 4-12.

In response, Deccan Gladiators’ opening batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore gave his side a flying start as he hit Angelo Mathews for 26 runs in the first over.

Cadmore’s opening partner Nicholas Pooran was dismissed by Sultan Ahmed in the third over with 45 runs on the board.

However, Cadmore continued his onslaught from the other end, hitting 23 runs to Tabraiz Shamsi in the next over completing his half-century in the process.

Shamsi got the wicket of Andre Fletcher in the next over after Fletcher sent the first ball out of the park.

Andre Russell joined destructive Cadmore on the crease and ended the game in style with a six off James Nasheem on the first ball of the seventh over.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore top-scored with a blistering 69 runs innings from 19 balls, featuring four boundaries and eight sixes.

Tabraiz Shamsi and Sultan Ahmed were the only wicket-takers for the Warriors with one wicket each.

Samp Army with this victory jumped to the top of the Abu Dhabi T10 League points table having lost only one game out of five games, followed by New York Strikers with three victories from four games.

Morrisville Samp Army drew first blood after opting to field as Jason Holder dismissed Pathum Nissanka to end the first over at 8-1.

Jordan Cox then played a 27-run cameo from 13 balls, laced with three sixes before Qais Ahmed ended his stay at the crease.

Karim Janat sent Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando in the same over to reduce to 39-4 in five overs.

Dominic Drakes looked promising and added 15 runs to the Tigers’ total but Qais Ahmed bowled him in the seventh over, followed by Daniel Sams’ wicket on the next ball.

Bangla Tigers’ skipper Benny Howell and Rohan Mustafa then made a 22-run partnership, scoring 11 runs each before the latter got out on the penultimate ball of the innings.

Tigers’ last batter Haider Ali got run out on the last ball, ending their innings at 82 runs.

Qais Ahmed and Salman Irshad returned with impressive bowling figures of 3-14 and 3-12 respectively, while, Karim Jannat picked two wickets and gave away only four runs.

In response, Samp Army lost their opening batter Faf du Plessis in the second over with only 14 runs on the board.

Andries Gous and Ibrahim Zadran then added 35 runs off 16 balls for the second-wicket partnership which was dominated by the former.

However, both batters departed in consecutive overs, slipping Samp Army to 57-3 in the sixth over.

Gous top-scored with 42 runs from 20 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes.

Samp Army lost Karim Janat in the seventh over before their captain Moeen Ali and Najibullah Zadran guided them to the finish line in the ninth over.

Ali scored 12 off seven with one six, while Zadran scored 13 runs from eight balls with the help of two boundaries.

Haider Ali, Benny Howell, Carlos Brathwaite and Rohan Mustafa picked one wicket each for the Bangla Tigers.

New York Strikers bundle Delhi Bulls for the lowest Abu Dhabi T10 League total to win by 67 runs

ABU DHABI: New York Strikers’ Akeal Hosein and Chamika Karunaratne wreaked havoc on Delhi Bulls’ batting line to hand them a heavy 67-run defeat in a one-sided Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

New York Strikers bowled Delhi Bulls for a meagre 31, which is the lowest total in the history of the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Earlier, Delhi Bulls invited New York Strikers to bat first and reduced them to 17-3 inside three overs, including two wickets in the same over by UAE bowler Wasim Akram.

However, the Strikers’ opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz stayed firm on his end and kept the scoreboard moving.

Strikers’ skipper Kieron Pollard was then bowled by Dwayne Bravo in the sixth over, bringing Odean Smith to the crease.

Gurbaz and Smith then attacked the Bulls’ bowling line and added an unbeaten 63 from 27 balls to raise the team’s total to 98-4 in their accumulated ten overs.

Gurbaz scored 49 off 24, featuring five sixes and two boundaries, meanwhile, Smith scored 25 runs from 15 balls with one boundary and two sixes.

Wasim Akram topped the wickets chart for the Bulls with bowling figures of 2-15.

While defending their 98-run total, Strikers’ Akeal Hosein gave his side a brilliant start as he sent Johnson Charles and James Vince on back-to-back balls in the first over.

Hosein then bowled Usman Khan in his next over to further slip Delhi Bulls to 11-4 in the third over.

Chamika Karunaratne then bowled a tremendous over to destroy Delhi Bulls’ pursuit by taking three wickets for one run reducing them to 15-7.

Quinton de Kock got caught and bowled before Rovman Powell as well as Dwayne Bravo fell prey to Karunaratne in the same over.

ABU DHABI: David Miller’s half-century in the first innings trumped Hazratullah Zazai’s half-century as Bangla Tigers edged Northern Warriors by a close two-run margin in a thrilling Abu Dhabi T10 League clash at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Bangla Tigers after being invited to bat suffered an early blow when Sultan Ahmed removed Avishka Fernando after he scored 11 runs off four balls.

Kusal Mendis then joined hands with Jordan Cox and together they attacked Northern Warriors’ bowling lineup to raise 52 runs from 20 balls for the second wicket.

However, James Neesham halted their progress by removing both batters in the same over reducing the Tigers to 70-3 in five overs.

Cox scored 35 runs from 16 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes, while his partner Mendis scored 20 off 10 with three boundaries.

David Miller and Dasun Shanaka were then involved in a blistering partnership adding 67 runs from 29 balls to push the total to 137 before Miller got out on the final ball of the innings.

Miller scored 50 runs from 24 balls featuring four boundaries and three sixes, while Shanaka scored 14 off seven with two sixes.

James Neesham was the only notable contributor for the bowling side with figures of 2-22.

Northern Warriors had a flying start to their chase of the mammoth total as Kennar Lewis and Hazratullah Zazai raised 54 runs in three overs before the former got caught behind.

Lewis played a quick-fire knock of 22 runs from nine balls, laced with two boundaries and as many sixes.

Zazai then played a rapid knock of 57 runs from 20 balls, featuring five boundaries and as many sixes before departing with 100 runs on the board in the sixth over.

This was Zazai’s third half-century in the ongoing edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. He is also the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 200 runs.

Carlos Brathwaite then bowled a double-wicket over to slip Warriors to 110-5.

James Neesham held on to one end amidst tight bowling by the Tigers’ bowlers but failed to get his team across the line as the Warriors needed four off the last ball and managed only one.

Neesham remained unbeaten at 23 off 14 with the help of three boundaries.

Brathwaite returned with figures of 2-26, while Josh Little, Daniel Sams and Rohan Mustafa picked one wicket each for Bangla Tigers.

This was Delhi Bulls’ first loss in the ongoing edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, who are sitting at the top of the points table, followed by Samp Army.

Morrisville Samp Army opted to bowl first and gained an early advantage with the wicket of Johnson Charles in the third over at a total of 19.

Quinton de Kock was the next batter to depart after scoring 11 off 9 in the fifth over with 44 runs on the board.

James Vince then played a 14-ball knock of 24 runs for Delhi Bulls but Qais Ahmed ended his brief stay on the pitch.

Samp Army’s Salman Irshad then dismissed Rovman Powell (19) and Rilee Rossouw (8) in the span of three balls to further halt the Bulls’ progress.

Delhi Bulls failed to recover from there and ended up scoring a meagre 95-8 in their ten overs as Irshad picked his third wicket on the final ball of the innings.

ABU DHABI: Delhi Bulls’ Richard Gleeson returned with figures of 3-4, followed by their skipper Rovman Powell’s quick 37 guided their side to a seven-wicket victory over Bangla Tigers in the 13th Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Bulls struck in the first over after opting to bowl, as Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled Chris Lynn on the third ball of the innings.

Naveen-ul-Haq castled Kusal Mendis in the next over, while Gleeson dismissed David Miller, Dasun Shanaka and Jordan Cox in one over to reduce the Tigers to 29-5.

Jordan Cox was the only notable contributor among the top five batters, scoring 19 runs off nine balls with the help of two boundaries and one six.

Daniel Sams then added 30 runs with Carlos Brathwaite for the seventh wicket before the latter was dismissed by Dwayne Bravo after scoring 21 off 17.

Sams scored an unbeaten 20 runs from 15 balls with the help of two sixes to drag his team’s total to 81-7 in their 10 overs.

Other than Gleeson’s three wickets, Fazalhaq Farooqi picked two wickets.

While chasing a small target of 82, the Bulls lost three wickets in three overs with 22 runs on the board.

However, Rilee Rossouw and Powell helped their side stabilize after early blows from the Tigers and chased the total in only six overs without losing any other wicket.

Rossouw scored 21 runs from 11 balls, featuring one boundary and one six, while Powell scored a blistering 37 off 11, laced with four sixes and two boundaries.

Josh Little picked two wickets for the losing side.

ABU DHABI: Andre Fletcher played a blistering 41-run knock to power Deccan Gladiators to a dominant 63-run victory over bottom-ranked Team Abu Dhabi in the 12th Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Team Abu Dhabi invited Gladiators to bat first, who raced to 35 runs in the fourth over courtesy of Nicholas Pooran’s 17-ball 30.

However, Rumman Raees halted their progress with back-to-back wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore was then joined by Fletcher and together they added 79 runs from 24 balls.

The partnership ended with Noor Ahmed removing Fletcher at a total of 114 in the eighth over after the batter had scored 41 runs from 12 balls laced with five sixes and one boundary.

Cadmore was then dismissed in the next over by Tymal Mills after scoring 35 off 17 with the help of two boundaries and as many sixes.

David Wiese then played a 15-run cameo off 6 balls including two sixes in the last over to push Gladiators total to a mammoth 141-6 in ten overs.

Raees and Mills picked two wickets each, while Noor Ahmed and Roelof van der Merwe picked one each.

In response, Team Abu Dhabi lost their first three wickets with only 16 runs on the board in the fifth over.

Leus du Plooy and Colin Ingram (19) then knitted a partnership of 41 runs from 20 balls before the latter was dismissed by Nuwan Thushara.

Plooy scored 25 off 18 with the help of three boundaries before getting out in the final over.

Team Abu Dhabi ended up scoring only 78-5 in their ten overs, succumbing to a massive 63-run loss, extending their losing streak to four games.

Nuwan Thushara picked up two wickets and gave away only five runs, while Imad Wasim, Trent Boult and Zahoor Khan picked one wicket each.
