Arshad Nadeem qualifies for final round of Paris Olympics

PARIS: Pakistan’s star athlete, Arshad Nadeem, has advanced to the final round of the Men’s Javelin Throw event at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 at Stade de France on Tuesday.

Nadeem earned the qualification in his first attempt as he nailed an 86.59-meter throw, while 84 metres was the criteria for the athletes to advance into the final round of the Javelin Throw.

World champion India’s Neeraj Chopra also made his way to the final with a massive 89.34-meter throw, which was also his season-best. Meanwhile, Grenada’s Anderson Peters joined his South Asian counterparts in the finals with an 86.59m first attempt.

The final of the Javelin Throw event will be played on Thursday, August 8, at 11:25 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) and will be telecasted live on Pakistan’s first HD Sports Channel A Sports and will also be streamed live on ARY ZAP.

It is worth mentioning here that Arshad Nadeem is Pakistan’s last hope for a medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics as all of their remaining athletes have been knocked out of the medal race.

Pakistan last won a medal in the Olympics during the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, however, Arshad is hopeful that he will once again bring the glory to the country.

“I’m fit and well-prepa­red and I’ve worked rea­lly hard for this prestigious ev­e­nt,” he told reporters in Lahore. “I feel I can achieve my goal of winning a medal.”

Pakistan’s last hope Arshad Nadeem to compete in Paris Olympics today

Pakistan’s hopes for a medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 are now pinned on their star athlete Arshad Nadeem, who will be competing in Men’s Javelin Throw Qualification at Stade de France on Tuesday.

The organizers of the game today confirmed the draws for the Javelin Throw Qualification with Arshad Nadeem alongside his Indian rival Neeraj Chopra placed in Group B.

Besides Nadeem and Chopra, the group further features World No. 5 Edis Matusevicius and World No. 6 Anderson Peters, who have breached the 90-metre barrier this year.

The action of Group B will commence at 2:50 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST) and will be telecasted live on Pakistan’s first HD Sports Channel A Sports and will also be streamed live on ARY ZAP. Arshad is scheduled fifth in the draw.

Remember, 84 metres has been set as the criteria for the athletes to advance into the final round of the Javelin Throw, scheduled to take place on Thursday at the same venue.

A total of 12 athletes will make their way to the final round. However, if the allotted number of athletes could not amass the 84-meter mark then the athletes with next-best throws will proceed further.

Arshad Nadeem aims to end Pakistan’s Olympic medal drought

Star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem on Wednesday, expressed his ambition to end Pakistan’s 32-year-long wait for an Olympic medal at the 2024 Paris Games.

Pakistan last won a medal in the Olympics during the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, however, Arshad is hopeful that he will once again bring the glory to the country.

“I’m fit and well-prepa­red and I’ve worked rea­lly hard for this prestigious ev­e­nt,” he told reporters in Lahore. “I feel I can achieve my goal of winning a medal.”

“I will continue my training in Paris to bring further improvement before competing in the event and if everything goes to plan, I will get a medal for the country at the Olympics,” he added.

Arshad Nadeem will compete in the qualification round on August 6, with the final scheduled for two days later.

Notably, Pakistan will compete in shooting, athletics and swimming in the Paris Olympics. Out of the seven athletes four of them earned direct qualification while sprinter Faiqa Riaz and swimmers Jehanara Nabi and Mohammad Ahmed Durrani will feature in the biggest sporting event on the basis of the universality places.

Pakistan failed to qualify for major disciplines like Hockey, Wrestling, Volleyball, Boxing and Weightlifting.

Only seven athletes named in Pakistan’s 18-member contingent for Paris Olympics

LAHORE: Only seven athletes were named in Pakistan’s contingent for the upcoming Paris Olympics, scheduled to commence on July 26.

The 18-member contingent, announced by the Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) on Saturday, features 11 officials who will travel with the seven athletes to Paris for the Games and will return to the country upon completion of their respective competitions.

Pakistan will compete in shooting, athletics and swimming in the Paris Olympics. Out of the seven athletes four of them earned direct qualification while sprinter Faiqa Riaz and swimmers Jehanara Nabi and Mohammad Ahmed Durrani will feature in the biggest sporting event on the basis of the universality places.

Meanwhile, star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and swimmer Jehanara Nabi have been chosen as Pakistan’s contingent flag-bearers for the prestigious event.

Among the 11 officials, six are the officials of the contingent, including the chef de mission, deputy chef de mission and an admin officer.

Four more officials include Dr Syed Meesaq Hussain Rizvi (chief medical officer), Kashif Jameel (NOC Olympic Attaché ), Rizwan Ahmed (welfare officer) while the rest are either athletes’ coaches or managers.

For the unversed, Pakistan failed to qualify for major disciplines like Hockey, Wrestling, Volleyball, Boxing and Weightlifting.

Pakistan’s contingent for the Games will depart for Paris on July 19.

Arshad Nadeem expresses satisfaction over fourth place finish in Diamond League

Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, expressed his satisfaction after finishing in fourth place at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday.

Nadeem, while talking to a local media channel, stated that he is pleased with his return to the field after a year and is preparing for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to do my best at the Olympics,” he said.

Arshad Nadeem will return to Pakistan and train under his coach Salman Butt before returning to Paris to participate in the Olympics.

“God willing, I’ll use these two weeks of training to make up for any deficiencies,” Nadeem added.

The star athlete kicked off in Diamond League with a 74.11-meter throw on his first attempt, followed by an 80.28-meter throw on the second try.

The star athlete’s third throw went for 82.71 meters, which placed him in the top three, however, he was surpassed by the Czech Republic’s Jacob Vadlejch, who threw at 85.04.

Nadeem needed a big throw in his fifth attempt to trump Vadlejch, but he failed to do so, achieving an 84.21-meter throw, thus ending in fourth position.

Germany’s Weber Julian won the gold medal in the javelin throw competition, courtesy of an 85.91-meter throw, which he achieved in his fifth attempt.

Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem fell short of winning a medal on his return to the field as he finished fourth in the Paris Diamond League on Sunday.

He started with a 74.11-meter throw on his first attempt, followed by an 80.28-meter throw on the second try.

The star athlete’s third throw went for 82.71 meters, which placed him in the top three, however, he was surpassed by the Czech Republic’s Jacob Vadlejch, who threw at 85.04.

Nadeem needed a big throw in his fifth attempt to trump Vadlejch, but he failed to do so, achieving an 84.21-meter throw, thus ending in fourth position.

Diamond League will be played in the capital city of France on July 7.

The star athlete shared that he was eager to end Pakistan’s medal drought at the Olympics.

“It has been too long that Pakistan has not won any medal at the Olympics, what was it, 1992 that we won it last in hockey? I am aiming to win that medal really, and I will do all that I can in my power to achieve that,” stated Nadeem.

The star athlete resumed his training for the upcoming events last week under his trainer after recovering from a leg injury a few weeks ago.

The leg injury forced Nadeem to withdraw from a couple of events in Finland but the star athlete shared that he is undergoing rehab and is “feeling better”.

“I have to go to Paris to play Diamond League, pray that I stay fit,” said Nadeem.

“I have been suffering from injuries for a long time, but that is part of the game.

“I played an event a year after the Tokyo Olympics. If I am fit, I will try to do my best throw in the Olympics.”

Arshad Nadeem resumes training for Paris Olympics

LAHORE: Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has resumed training for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 after returning home from South Africa.

Nadeem travelled to South Africa last month to receive training from the renowned javelin coach Terseus Liebenberg. He underwent a five-week extensive training regime at the North West University facility.

The Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medalist is now training under his local coach, Salman Butt. The training regime includes gym training, strength sessions, and throwing sessions.

Butt is collaborating with Liebenberg to develop a comprehensive and effective training plan for Nadeem, aligning with the goal of winning the gold in the Paris Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem withdraws from the Asian Games 2023

Star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem on Tuesday withdrew from the javelin throw final event of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

Arshad Nadeem decided not to participate in the final due to the recurring pain in his previously injured leg. He suffered an injury during training, and the MRI reports identified the recurrence of the old injury consequently ruling him out of the Asian Games.

The final of the javelin throw event of the Asian Games 2023 is scheduled to be played tomorrow.

Arshad Nadeem is already having a roller coaster of a year as he made history in August by clinching a silver medal, at the World Athletics Championship. This was Pakistan’s first-ever medal in the tournament’s history.

Arshad Nadeem secured the silver with his best throw in his third attempt which went at a distance of 87.82 meters.

Arshad started things slowly with a 74.80m throw in his first attempt, however, he made a sounding comeback with an 82.81m throw in his second attempt.

His aforementioned third throw, proved to be his best in the season, going as far as 87.82 meters, while his fourth attempt could only go at 87.12m.

His fifth and sixth attempts failed to breach Neeraj Chopra’s 88.17-meter mark, hence settling for a silver.

Prior to that, Arshad Nadeem secured his place for the final of the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, as well as, the Paris Olympics in 2024 in the qualifying round of the World Athletics Championship.

Arshad Nadeem started off the qualifying round of the javelin throw event with a 70.63m throw in his first attempt, while in his second attempt, he threw his javelin at a distance of 81.53 meters.

However, the Automatic qualifying mark for the final of the World Athletics Championship was 83 meters, while the benchmark for the Paris Olympics was 85.50 meters.

Arshad Nadeem breached both benchmarks in his third attempt with an amazing 86.79-meter throw, consequently qualifying for both events.

It is worth mentioning that Arshad Nadeem was declared fit for the World Athletics Championship earlier this month by the medical board, after being ruled out of the Asian Athletics Championship, due to an injury to his left knee.
