Babar Azam leaves Chris Gayle behind to become fastest batter to 10000 T20 runs

LAHORE: Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Babar Azam has completed 10,000 runs in T20 cricket during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 match against Karachi Kings.

Babar Azam became the 12th batter in the world to achieve this historic feat, however, he is now the fastest to 10,000 T20 runs after surpassing West Indies’ legend Chris Gayle.

Azam completed his 10,000 runs in only 271 innings, while Gayle took 285 innings, followed by Indian star batter Virat Kohli, who took 299 innings to reach the milestone.

Azam reached the elusive milestone during his valiant 72-run knock amid his side’s dramatic collapse against Peshawar Zalmi.

Zalmi faced a horrible collapse courtesy of brilliant bowling by Karachi Kings and were bowled out at a meagre 154 despite being at 136-5 at one point.

Karachi Kings drew first blood with veteran Shoaib Malik castling Saim Ayub on the first ball. Babar Azam kept the scoreboard moving but could not get support from the other end early on as his side slipped to 40-3 inside the power play.

Rovman Powell then joined hands with the skipper and together they knitted a partnership of 68 runs from 46 balls to help their side recover from the early damage.

Powell was the core aggressor of the partnership with a 25-ball 39, which featured three boundaries and two sixes, while Azam played the anchor’s role.

Powell’s entertaining knock came to an end when he tried to reverse hit Mohammad Nawaz but top-edged the ball only to land in the safe hands of Mir Hamza.

Azam top-scored for Zalmi, scoring a gutsy 72 off 51, which featured seven boundaries and one six.

Rohit Sharma shatters Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes in international cricket

DELHI: India’s all-format captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday, broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of the most sixes across formats during his side’s ICC World Cup 2023 fixture against Afghanistan.

Chris Gayle had hit 553 sixes over the course of his decorated career, which spanned over 22 years. The West Indian legend took 551 innings to set the world record.

Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit was on 551 sixes before today’s ICC World Cup 2023 fixture against Afghanistan.

While chasing a modest 273, Rohit Sharma gave India a flying start with a quickfire knock and has already hit four sixes, which took him past Gayle’s record.

Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi (476) is third in the list of the batters with the most number of international sixes.

The former all-rounder, however, still tops the chart in ODIs with 351 sixes, followed by Chris Gayle (331) and Rohit Sharma (296).

Rohit Sharma leads the list of most sixes in T20Is with 182 in 140 innings, followed by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill with 173 and Australia’s Aaron Finch with 125.

England captain Ben Stokes has thus far hit the most sixes in Tests (124), 17 more than his coach Brendon McCullum.

It is worth mentioning here when this story was filed India were 164/1 in 20 overs while chasing 273.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is leading India’s charge with an unbeaten 108 in 70 deliveries with the help of 13 boundaries and four sixes.

Babar Azam surpasses Gayle, Kohli to achieve another feat

KARACHI: Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam becomes the fastest and youngest cricketer in the world to score 7000 runs in T20 cricket. 

As per the details, Babar scored match-winning runs for his team Central Punjab (CP) against Southern Punjab (SP) in the ongoing National T20 Cup. Meanwhile, the right-handed batter beat Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and three others to score the fastest 7000 runs T20s.

Babar took 187 innings to achieve this milestone followed by Gayle (192) and Kohli (212).

Gayle leaves IPL halfway due to ‘bubble fatigue’

DUBAI: West Indies’ experienced cricketer Chris Gayle has left Indian Premier League (IPL) citing ‘bubble fatigue’.

In a statement after deciding to leave the Indian domestic tournament, Gayle said ‘bubble fatigue’ led to his decision as he wants to take a rest before the all-important T20 World Cup.

“I want to refocus on helping the West Indies in the T20 World Cup and would like to take a break in Dubai,” he said in his statement.

It must be noted here that a 42-years-old cricketer has been named in the West Indies squad for the mega multi-nation tournament. The event is scheduled to start in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman on October 17.
