Zimbabwe register record victory in CWC Qualifier at USA’s disposal

HARARE: Sean Williams played a marathon 174-run knock and powered Zimbabwe to hand the United States of America (USA) the second-biggest ODI defeat in terms of runs in the 17th match of the Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier.

Hosts Zimbabwe, who are in red-hot form in the CWC Qualifier, registered their highest ODI total with a mammoth 408/6 in 50 overs after they were put into bat first by the USA captain Monank Patel.

Zimbabwe openers Joylord Gumbie and Innocent Kaia gave their side a steady start with a cautious 56-run stand that lasted in the 14th over when Jasdeep Singh got rid of Kaia, who could score 32 off 41.

Gumbie then put on a massive 160-run partnership with stand-in captain Sean Williams, who decimated USA bowlers with belligerent hitting and accelerated the flow of runs for Zimbabwe.

Sean Williams was the core aggressor of his vital stand with Gumbie and soon amassed his century in just 65 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Gumbie who has holding his hand firm fell short in the 35th over when Zimbabwe had 216 runs on the scoreboard. He scored 78 off 103 deliveries, hitting five boundaries.

Sean Williams, however, continued his onslaught and smashed 21 boundaries and five sixes on his way to top-score for Zimbabwe with an astounding 174 off just 101 balls before perishing in the penultimate over.

Middle-order batters Ryan Burl and in-form all-rounder Sikandar Raza played supporting roles by playing brisk cameos and added further to the misery of the USA bowlers.

Burl hammered 47 off 16, laced with three boundaries and four sixes while Raza smashed 48 off 27 deliveries.

Abhishek Paradkar claimed three wickets for the USA while Jessy Singh had two to his name.

Set to chase a massive 409, the USA batting lineup failed completely and could score 104 before being bundled out in the 26th over.

Only three USA batters reached double digits, as Richard Ngarava and Raza each got two wickets, and three runouts rounded out the Americans’ woeful batting display.

Sri Lanka crush Ireland’s CWC Qualifier hopes as Scotland, Oman through

HARARE: Dominant Sri Lanka crushed Ireland’s hopes of making it to the Super Sixes of the CWC Qualifier by handing a thumping 133-run defeat and paved the way for Scotland and Oman to progress.

In the 15th match of the CWC Qualifier, tournament favourites Sri Lanka registered a dominating 133-run triumph over Ireland at the back of a brilliant century by Dimuth Karunaratne and a five-for by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Put into bat first, the Sri Lanka piled up a massive total of 325 in 50 overs with Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama leading the batting charge.

Having lost Pathum Nissanka (20) and Kusal Mendis (0) on two successive deliveries, Sri Lanka slipped to 48/2 in the ninth over.

Following back-to-back blows, the pair of Karunaratne and Samarawickrama anchored the innings with an astounding 168-run partnership for the third wicket.

The pair appeared to have settled down and both were eyeing centuries until Gareth Delany got rid of Samarawickrama, who fell just 18 short of his century.

He struck four boundaries on his way to an 86-ball 82.

Karunaratne followed Samarawickrama’s footsteps as he also walked back in the span of two overs after top scoring for Sri Lanka.

He smashed eight boundaries on his way to a run-a-ball 103.

Brisk and valuable knocks by Charith Asalanka (38) and Dhananjaya de Silva (42) afterward made sure Sri Lanka amassed the 300-run mark.

Mark Adair was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland as he returned brilliant figures of 4/46 followed by Barry McCarthy’s 3/56 and Gareth Delany’s 2/52.

Set to chase a mammoth 326, the Irish batting lineup faltered and could only accumulate 192 before being bowled out in 31 overs.

In-form Harry Tector (33) and Curtis Campher (39) offered brief retaliation against spin-backed Sri Lankan bowling attack while the rest seemed clueless.

Wanindu Hasaranga claimed his second consecutive five-wicket haul and played a pivotal role in his team’s triumph while Maheesh Theekshana made two scalps.

Meanwhile, in another CWC Qualifier fixture, Scotland outclassed Oman by 76 runs after both sides qualified for the Super Sixes, courtesy of Sri Lanka’s victory.

Batting first, Scotland raised 320 runs before bundling out on the final delivery thanks to a magnificent century by Brandon McMullen.

McMullen top-scored for Scotland with a 121-ball 136 which featured 14 boundaries and three sixes.

He received significant support from his captain Richie Berrington, who scored 60 off 62 deliveries.

Bilal Khan claimed a five-wicket haul for Oman but it could not bar Scotland from piling a big total on the scoreboard.

The huge total got on the nerves of Oman batters, who could only score 244/9 in response and thus handed a massive 76-run victory to Scotland.

Wicketkeeper batter Naseem Khushi was the top-scorer for Oman in their dismal show with the bat.

He hit seven boundaries and three sixes on his way to a 53-ball 69 but fell well short of steering his side to glory.

Chris Greaves led the bowling attack for Scotland with a five-wicket haul and conceded just 53 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

HARARE: Sikandar Raza put on a brilliant all-round show and propelled Zimbabwe to a stunning 35-run victory over West Indies in the 13th match of the Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier on Saturday.

In a hill-hill Group A clash, hosts Zimbabwe handed a 35-run thrashing to former champions West Indies and solidify their grasp on the top spot in the standings.

Dynamic all-rounder Sikandar Raza was the star of the show as he backed his sensational 68-run knock with two wickets and earned the Player of the Match award for his brilliance.

Put into bat first, Zimbabwe accumulated a par 268-run total before bundling out in the final over.

The home side had a promising start to their innings as openers Joylord Gumbie and Craig Ervine raised 63 runs for the first wicket until the former perished in the 16th over.

Gumbie could score 26 off 50 deliveries with the help of two boundaries and a six.

His dismissal triggered a brief collapse and the hosts, consequently, slipped to 112/4 in the 25th over with Ervine and Sean Williams also walking back.

Ervine remained the notable run-getter for Zimbabwe with a 58-ball 47 which featured seven boundaries while Williams could score 23 off 26.

Following the slump, Sikandar Raza once again stood up for his team in CWC Qualifier and stitched a crucial 87-run partnership with Ryan Burl and both scored half-centuries.

The duo counter-attacked the West Indian bowlers and scored at a rapid pace until Akeal Hosein trapped Burl in his legs soon after the latter raised his bat for a well-crafted half-century.

Ryan Burl scored 50 off 57 deliveries, laced with five boundaries and a six.

Sikandar Raza then put on a brief partnership with Clive Madane (5) before finally perishing in the 46th over and Zimbabwe, as a result, had their batting tail exposed.

Raza top-scored for Zimbabwe with a brisk 58-ball 68 which included six boundaries and two sixes.

The West Indian bowlers then soon wrapped up Zimbabwe’s innings by bundling them out on the penultimate delivery of the innings with 268 runs on the scoreboard.

Keemo Paul led the bowling charge for West Indies with three wickets but was expensive, followed by Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein who took two each.

Set to chase 269, West Indies could only raise 233 before being bowled in the 45th over despite Kyle Mayers’s half-century.

West Indies too, had a decent start to their innings as their openers raised a quick 43-run opening partnership which lasted with Brandon King’s (20 off 12) departure in the seventh over.

Following his dismissal, the Caribbean side dealt with another blow as Johnson Charles fell three overs later, scoring one off five.

With their side two down for 46 in the 10th over, Kyle Mayers received was joined by skipper Shai Hope at the crease.

The pair briefly stopped the flow of wickets and took West Indies past the 100-run mark but Wellington Masakadza drew a massive breakthrough in the 21st over as he got rid of Mayers.

Mayers remained the top-scorer for West Indies in the run chase with 56 from 72 balls with the help of eight boundaries and a six.

West Indies then began to lose wickets at regular intervals and despite some notable contributions in the middle by skipper Shai Hope (34) and Nicholas Pooran (30), they slipped to 180/6 in the 33rd over.

Roston Chase, the only batter who hung in there for the West Indies, fell in the 43rd over after a gutsy 44-run knock and Zimbabwe moved just one wicket away from claiming a morale-boosting victory over the West Indies.

Tendai Chatara soon picked up the last wicket in his next over by dismissing Alzarri Joseph and drove Zimbabwe to their third consecutive victory in the CWC Qualifier.

Netherlands storm into CWC Qualifier Super Sixes as Nepal crash out

HARARE: Logan van Beek’s career-best bowling figures of 4-24 followed by a sensational 90-run knock by Max O’Dowd powered Netherlands into the Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier Super Sixes.

After sending Nepal to bat first, the Dutch bowlers trounced on their batting lineup and booked them for a skimpy 167 as van Beek led the attack with a four-for.

The Asian side, after getting off to a poor start, lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for 167 in the 45th over.

Skipper Rohit Paudel offered brief retaliation with a cautious 33 off 55 deliveries but could not manage to get the behold of his side’s struggling batting.

Opening batter Kushal Bhurtel and lower-order batter Sandeep Lamichhane were the other notable run-getters for the side as they scored 27 each.

The rest of the Nepal batters made insignificant contributions with the bat as they seemed clueless against a disciplined Dutch bowling attack.

Logan van Beek led the ruthless bowling charge of the Netherlands with four wickets, followed by two each by Bas de Leede and Vikramjit Singh.

Set to chase 167, the Netherlands comfortably completed the pursuit for the loss of just three wickets and 137 balls to spare.

Opening batter Max O’Dowd spearheaded Netherlands’ run chase with a brisk 90-run knock and top-scored before perishing on the first delivery of the 27th over when his side needed just 10 more runs.

He faced 75 deliveries and smashed eight boundaries and four sixes during his brilliant knock.

His opening partner Vikramjit Singh (30) and Bas de Leede (41*) also made significant contributions and paved the way for a comfortable victory for the Netherlands.

The seven-wicket victory over Nepal powered the Netherlands to storm into the Super Sixes stage of the CWC Qualifier while their opponents ran out of contention.

Richie Berrington, bowlers lead Scotland to CWC Qualifier win over UAE

BULAWAYO: Scotland skipper Richie Berrington led from the front amid his side’s dominant 111-run victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 12th match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier on Friday.

After being put into bat first, Scotland piled up a commendable total of 282/8 despite a shaky start, thanks to a sensational century by their skipper Richie Berrington.

Coming to bat at number three in just the third over when his side was one down for just six runs, Berrington held his ground firm and carried his bat all the way till the final delivery of the innings.

He kept the scoreboard ticking singlehandedly whilst losing partners at the other end at an alarming rate and brought up a fighting century in the 46th over.

Richie Berrington smashed nine boundaries and three sixes on his way to a 136-ball 127.

Besides him, Michael Leask (41) and Mark Watt (44) were significant contributors and stitched important partnerships with the skipper.

Junaid Siddique led the bowling attack for the UAE with 3/49 followed by Ali Naseer’s 2/37 while Zahoor Khan and Karthik Meiyappan picked up a wicket apiece.

Set to chase 283, the UAE’s batting lineup faltered and could only raise 171 runs before being bundled out in the 36th over.

Skipper Muhammad Waseem offered little fightback in the run chase with a gutsy 36 from 57 deliveries and top-scored for his side.

Whereas, Basil Hameed (30) and Karthik Meiyappan (23) were the other notable run-getters for the UAE in the run chase.

Safyaan Sharif was the pick of the bowlers for Scotland as he returned with astonishing figures of 4/20 while Chris Sole claimed three wickets for 37 runs.

Oman, who were unbeaten in their opening two matches of the CWC Qualifier, came face to face with Sri Lanka and felt the wrath of the former champions and Asia Cup winners.

Batting first in the 11th match of the tournament, Oman’s batting lineup failed completely and could only accumulate 98 runs before bundling out in the 31st overs.

All-rounder Ayaan Khan offered some resistance with a gutsy 41 off 60 deliveries while opening batter Jatinder Singh (21) was the other valuable contributor to Oman’s total, who had an overall dismal show with the bat.

Besides the two, none of their batters could make significant contributions while eight of them even failed to make it to the double digits.

Set to chase a modest 99, Sri Lankan openers put on an unbeaten and match-winning 100-run partnership and steered their side to a statement 10-wicket victory with 210 balls to spare over spirited Oman.

Dimuth Karunaratne was the core aggressor of the unbeaten partnership as he top-scored for Sri Lanka with a 51-ball 61 which featured eight boundaries.

His opening partner Pathum Nissanka played an anchoring role and remained not out on 37. He faced 39 balls and smashed five boundaries.

The dominant 10-wicket victory lifted Sri Lanka to the top of the Group B standings of the CWC Qualifier with four points in two matches and are followed by Oman with as many points in three matches.

Netherlands, West Indies register thumping victories in CWC Qualifier

HARARE: All-round Netherlands thrashed the USA by five wickets before Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran’s centuries propelled West Indies to a dominating victory over spirited Nepal in the CWC Qualifier on Thursday.

In the ninth match of the CWC Qualifier, the tournament favourites and former champions blew Nepal with a massive 101-run margin at the back of sensational centuries by Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran.

Put into bat first, West Indies piled up a massive 339/7 despite a horrible start.

The former champions were three down for just 55 runs in the 16th over until Hope and Pooran did astounding recovery.

The pair put on a mammoth 216-run partnership for the fourth wicket and both scored centuries.

Nicholas Pooran was the core aggressor of the stand as he scored brisk 115 runs off just 94 deliveries, smashing 10 boundaries and four sixes before perishing in the 44th over.

Following his departure, skipper Hope put on brief partnerships with Rovman Powell (29) and Jason Holder (16*) before finally perishing in the final over.

Shai Hope top-scored for the West Indies with a 129-ball 132, laced up with 10 boundaries and three sixes.

Set to chase a mammoth 340, Nepal batting lineup struggled against West Indian bowling attack and bundled out for a mere 238 in the final over.

Aasif Sheikh was the pick of the batters for Nepal with a gutsy 93-ball 63.

Meanwhile, in the 10th fixture of the CWC Qualifier, Netherlands registered a resounding five-wicket victory over the USA.

After putting USA into bat first, the Dutch bowlers showcased some tight bowling display to restrict USA to a modest 211/8 in 50 overs despite Shayan Jahangir’s 71.

Jahangir struck five boundaries and two sixes on his way to an 86-ball 71 and top scored for the USA, who had an overall dismal show with the bat.

Jessy Singh (38) and Gajanand Singh (33) were the other notable run-getters for the USA.

Set to chase 212, Netherlands comfortably accumulated 214 runs for the loss of five wickets and 40 balls to spare.

Skipper Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru spearheaded the run-chase with brilliant half-centuries after valuable contributions from their top order.

Edwards top-scored for his side with a brisk 60-ball 67 which featured six boundaries.

Whereas, Nidamanuru played a cautious 58-run knock from 68 deliveries with the help of five boundaries.

Oman stun UAE, Scotland edge Ireland in CWC Qualifier

BULAWAYO: A combined bowling and batting effort lifted Oman to a stunning five-wicket victory over the UAE before Scotland edged Ireland in a last-ball CWC Qualifier thriller on Wednesday.

In the eighth match of the CWC Qualifier, spirited Oman continued their dream campaign as they thumped the UAE by five wickets and 24 balls to spare at the back of Jay Odedra’s three wickets and fifties from Shoaib Khan and Aqib Ilyas.

Put into bat first, UAE batters coped with a tight bowling effort from Oman and could only accumulate 227 for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

The UAE had a dismal start to their innings as the side slipped to 16/2 in the fourth over as both openers perished after scoring eight each.

Wicketkeeper batter Vriitya Aravind and Rameez Shahzad anchored UAE’s innings with a gutsy 87-run partnership for the third wicket.

The pair took their past the 100-run mark but remained a touch too slow as Oman bowlers gave no room to them to score freely.

The dire need for some quick runs forced Shahzad to make a costly error against Odedra and threw his wicket at a crucial stage.

He struck five boundaries on his way to a 51-ball 38.

Aravind soon followed the footstep of Shahzad as he was too, castled by Odedra in the span of 23 deliveries and fell just one short of his fighting half-century. He scored 49 off 84 balls with the help of three boundaries.

The UAE then began to lose wickets at an alarming rate and soon slipped to 194/8 in the 46th over but an unbeaten half-century knock by Aayan Afzal Khan at the backend bolstered the side to finish at 227/8.

Khan top-scored for UAE with 58 from 52 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries.

Jay Odedra led the bowling attack for Oman with 3/31, followed by Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Khan, who took two wickets each.

Set to chase a modest 228, Oman completed the calculated pursuit for the loss of just five wickets and 24 balls to spare thanks to brilliant fifties from Shoaib Khan and Aqib Ilyas.

Oman had an alike start to their innings as they were two down for just 14 runs in five overs.

Following the slump, Shoaib and Aqib anchored the run chase with a sensible 100-run partnership for the third wicket, which ended when the latter fell in the 28th over briefly after amassing his half-century. He top-scored for Oman with a 75-ball 53, hitting three boundaries and a six.

Following his dismissal, Muhammad Nadeem and Shoaib Khan stood up and guided their side through the run chase.

Shoaib Khan, who got retired hurt in the middle overs, returned to finish the proceeding and played an unbeaten match-winning knock of 52 off 70 deliveries.

Nadeem, on the other hand, scored 50 not out from 57 deliveries, laced up with five boundaries.

In the seventh match of the CWC Qualifier, Scotland edged Ireland by just one wicket after Michael Leask’s gritty 91-run knock.

Put into bat first, Ireland recovered from a disappointing start, courtesy of Curtis Campher’s century and piled 286/8 in 50 overs.

Campher top-scored for Ireland with 120 off 108 balls with the help of nine boundaries and four sixes.

George Dockrell played a supporting role in Ireland’s recovery with Campher with a cautious 69. He faced 93 deliveries and smashed four boundaries and a six.

Opening batter Andy McBrine was the other valuable contributor to Ireland’s total with a 39-run knock.

Set to chase 287, Scotland completed the run chase on the final delivery as Michael Leask stood tall in the tense run chase.

He top-scored for Ireland with an unbeaten 91 off 61 deliveries, smashing nine boundaries and four sixes.

Opener Christopher McBride (56) and all-rounder Mark Watt (47) contributed significantly in the tense run chase for Scotland.

HARARE: Sikandar Raza followed up his sensational four-for with a record century and powered Zimbabwe to thrash Netherlands by six wickets in the Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier.

Sikandar Raza was the hero of Zimbabwe’s dominant six-wicket victory over the Netherlands as the home side chased down a mammoth 316-run target in just the 41st over for the loss of four wickets.

Earlier, Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine sent the Netherlands into bat first after the coin flipped in his favour.

The Netherlands had apparently made him pay for his decision to field first as the Dutch side piled up a massive 315/6 total on the scoreboard with openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd and skipper Scott Edwards leading the charge with half-centuries.

Dutch batters annihilated Zimbabwe bowlers in the first innings as most of them went for plenty but Sikandar Raza remained the exception as he returned with sensational figures of 4/55 in his 10 overs to bar the opposition from amassing a more daunting total.

The Netherlands opener Singh and O’Dowd scripted a promising start to their side as the paid added 120 runs for the first wicket before the latter was castled by Sikandar Raza in the 21st over.

O’Dowd scored 59 off 67 deliveries and hit 10 boundaries.

Raza then struck again in his next over to get rid of Wesley Barresi, who could score just four.

Having dealt with Raza’s quick twin strikes, Singh received liable support of his skipper Edwards and the pair stitched a vital 106-run partnership for the third wicket.

The pair appeared to have settled down and Singh moved 12 runs within his maiden ODI century, Raza struck again to crush his century hopes. He scored 88 off 111 deliveries with the help of nine boundaries.

Following his dismissal, the Netherlands two more wickets in quick successions as Bas de Leede and Teja Nidamanuru perished cheaply.

Skipper Edwards then put on a vital 59-run partnership with Saqib Zulfiqar, who carried his bat all the way through and remained unbeaten on a 31-ball 34.

Edwards smashed nine boundaries on his way to a 72-ball 83.

Set to chase a massive 316-run target, Sikandar Raza notched up the fastest century for Zimbabwe and made it an easy affair for his side.

He thwacked six boundaries and eight sixes on his way to top-score for Zimbabwe with a 54-ball 102.

Raza’s fireworks outshined Sean Williams’ magnificent 91-run knock which featured 10 boundaries and two sixes.

In another CWC Qualifier match, spirited Nepal drew alike outcomes as they blew away the United States of America (USA) by six wickets and 42 balls to spare.

Put into bat first in the sixth match of the CWC Qualifier, the USA could only raise 207 before bundling out in 49 overs despite a brisk century by Shayan Jahangir.

The wicketkeeper batter smashed 10 boundaries and three sixes on his way to a 79-ball 100 and remained not out as he ran out of partners.

Besides him, Sushant Modani (42) was the notable run-getter for the side while the rest failed in their second match of the CWC Qualifier campaign.

Karan KC led the bowling attack for Nepal with 4/43, followed by Gulshan Jha’s 3/52 and Dipendra Singh Airee’s 2/15.

BULAWAYO: A collective effort from the batters before Wanindu Hasaranga’s six-for lifted Sri Lanka to thrash UAE by 175 runs before Oman registered the first upset of the Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier by defeating Ireland by five wickets.

In the fourth match of the CWC Qualifiers, Oman put on a remarkable show with the bat against Ireland as the associate nation outclassed their opponents by five wickets as they chased down a 282-run total with 11 balls to spare.

Put into bat first, Ireland raised 281/7 in their set of 50 overs with middle-order batter George Dockrell leading the charge with a brilliant 91-run knock.

Dockrell put on a defiant 79-run partnership with Harry Tector, who continued his rich form to score an 82-ball 52 which featured five boundaries.

Ireland struggled in the early phase of the innings as their top-order made modest contributions, leaving the side four down for 107 runs in the 21st over.

However, the fifth-wicket partnership between Tector and Dockrell made sure the side accumulated a commendable total.

George Dockrell remained the top-scorer for Ireland with 91 off just 89 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries and two sixes.

Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt led the bowling attack for Oman with two wickets each while Zeeshan Maqsood, Ayaan Khan and Jay Odedra struck out a batter each.

Set to chase a par 282-run target, Oman batters displayed brilliance to make it an easy affair for the side to pull off an astonishing victory over Ireland, who has featured in numerous World Cups.

Oman had a contrasting start to their pursuit as the side lost their opener Jatinder Singh (1) in the fourth over with just four runs on the scoreboard.

However, another opening batter Kashyap Prajapati and Aqib Ilyas anchored the run chase with a gutsy 94-run partnership and both scored half-centuries.

The duo put Oman in complete command before George Dockrell provided a much-needed breakthrough to Ireland as he removed Ilyas. He scored 52 off 49 balls, hitting eight boundaries.

Prajapati joined forces with skipper Zeeshan Maqsood and notched up yet another vital partnership for his side. The pair of Maqsood and Prajapati added 63 runs to the team’s total before Josh Little finally got rid of the opening batter.

He top-scored for Oman in the run chase with an anchoring 74-ball 72 which included six boundaries and a six.

Following Prajapati’s dismissal, Mohammad Nadeem joined his skipper Maqsood in the middle and kept the run chase alive with a 56-run stand which lasted when Little struck again to remove the Oman captain.

Maqsood remained the second-highest run-scorer for his side with a cautious 59 off 67 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and a six.

Following his dismissal, Nadeem led the run chase with a sensible knock of 46 not out and received significant support from Ayaan Khan (21) and Shoaib Khan (19*).

Josh Little and Mark Adair bagged two wickets each for Ireland while Dockrell made one scalp.

In the third fixture of the CWC Qualifier, Sri Lanka handed a thrashing 175-run defeat to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to script a winning start to their campaign.

Put into bat first, Sri Lanka piled up a massive 355/6 on the scoreboard with their top-five batters making valuable contributions.

Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka (57), Dimuth Karunaratne (52), wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis (78) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (73) all scored half-centuries while Charith Asalanka’s brisk 48-run cameo bolstered Sri Lanka’s total at the backend.

Chasing a mammoth 356, UAE’s batting charge was rocked by Wanindu Hasaranga and were therefore bundled out for a meagre 180.

Skipper Muhammad Waseem and Vriitya Aravind remained the joint top-scorer for the UAE with 39 each in their dismal show with the bat.

Besides them, Rameez Shahzad and Ali Naseer were the other notable run-getters while the rest failed to make it big with the bat.

Wanindu Hasaranga led the bowling for Sri Lanka with 6/24 while Dhananjaya de Silva, Maheesh Theekshana and Lahiru Kumara struck out a batter each.
