ADELAIDE: India’s batting icon Virat Kohli endured another tough day, setting an unwanted record after he fell for a four-ball duck in the second ODI against Australia on Thursday.

With this duck, Kohli bagged an unwanted milestone that makes him the active player with the most ducks in One Day Internationals.

Kohli now has 18 ducks in ODI cricket, surpassing Rohit Sharma, Litton Das, and former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor, each of whom has 16 to their name.

The rare slump saw Kohli dismissed for zero in consecutive ODIs for the first time in his illustrious career.

Globally, Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya holds the all-time record with 34 ODI ducks, followed by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with 30.

During the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval, Kohli’s dismissal came at the hands of Xavier Bartlett, who was playing his first game of the series.

Bartlett delivered a sharp, good-length ball around the off-stump, which nipped in and trapped Kohli leg-before as he attempted an across-the-line flick.

Though he briefly conferred with his batting partner, he chose not to review, accepting the on-field decision. The crowd at Adelaide Oval rose in applause as Kohli trudged back, his frustration evident despite the warm reception.

The dismissal followed his eight-ball duck in the opening ODI at Perth, marking back-to-back scoreless outings for the former Indian captain, a rarity in a career defined by consistency and run-scoring brilliance.

The deadlock between India and Pakistan over the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy continued on Wednesday, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to accept the silverware from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi.

According to reports, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has written a letter to the ACC, requesting that the Trophy be handed over directly to India.

“If the trophy is not received, the matter will be raised with the ICC,” Saikia told reporters.

Meanwhile, ACC has offered BCCI to receive the trophy at a formal ceremony in Dubai on November 10.

For the unversed, the standoff for the trophy arose from India’s decision not to collect their winners’ medals and trophy following their triumph in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan on September 29 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The controversy reportedly began after members of the Indian team declined to accept the silverware from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.

Despite India’s stance, the ACC has maintained its position, with sources suggesting that President Naqvi is unwilling to make any exceptions or alter standard presentation protocols.

India had defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final, chasing down a 147-run target in 19.4 overs after bowling out the Men in Green for 146 runs in 19.1 overs.

The continental tournament was shrouded in controversy from the start, beginning with India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision not to shake hands with Pakistan in their first encounter.

On the contrary, Pakistan also threatened to boycott the tournament at one stage. The situation persisted and continued after the summit clash.

The tentative date and venue for the clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India in next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India,  has been revealed.

According to sources, both teams are slated to face off each other on February 8 in Colombo.

Moreover, the match could also mark the start of the mega event, which is expected to run from February 7 to March 8.

As per the reports, ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches will be held across at least five venues in India and two in Sri Lanka.

The final will be held in Ahmedabad or Colombo, depending on Pakistan’s advancement through to the pinnacle clash— due to the hybrid model.

Meanwhile, the full lineup for the 2026 edition has been completed with 20 teams competing for the trophy.

Alongside the two hosts, automatic qualification was granted to the top seven sides from the 2024 T20 World Cup: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the United States, and West Indies, as well as Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland, who progressed based on ICC rankings.

From the regional qualifiers, Canada secured the Americas spot, while the Netherlands and Italy emerged from Europe, the latter marking their maiden appearance at a T20 World Cup.

Namibia and Zimbabwe claimed the two available spots from Africa, while Nepal, Oman, and the UAE completed the Asian contingent.

The 2026 tournament will retain the same format as the previous edition, with 20 teams divided into four groups of five. The top two from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, followed by semi-finals and the final.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh guided his side to a comfortable seven-wicket win against India in a rain-affected first one-day international in Perth on Sunday.

Chasing 131 for victory in a match that was reduced to 26 overs a side, Marsh scored 46 not out as the home side cruised to an easy win to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Matt Renshaw was unbeaten on 21 alongside Marsh as Australia reached 131-3 with 29 balls remaining. Josh Philippe contributed 37, batting at number four.

“I was proud of the way our young guys came out and got the job done.”

Marsh, who was also named player of the match, won the toss and chose to field due to the inclement weather around the Western Australia city.

It paid dividends as India’s innings was hampered by rain delays, which frustrated the visitors who struggled to build any momentum.

A quickfire 38 off 31 balls from KL Rahul helped India to recover to 136-9, with Australia set 131 to win after the total was adjusted on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system.

Australia’s opening bowlers, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, troubled the Indian batters with a good line and movement.

Hazlewood had Rohit Sharma caught at second slip for eight before Starc claimed Virat Kohli without scoring, leaving the visitors 21-2.

India skipper Shubman Gill was caught by wicketkeeper Philippe off Nathan Ellis for 10 before the first rain delay, with India 23-3 after 8.5 overs.

Hazlewood grabbed his second victim when Shreyas Iyer gloved a ball to Philippe before another long delay with India at 45-4.

When they eventually resumed, the game was reduced to 26 overs.

Rahul smashed two huge sixes but fell on the boundary going for a third.

Nitish Reddy blasted 19 runs off the last two overs, but the reduced total was never enough.

The two teams meet again in Adelaide on Thursday before the final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

PERTH: India batting maestro Virat Kohli return to international cricket was cut short by Australia ace pacer Mitchell Starc, who bowled a terrific delivery to send the right-hander back for a duck in the first ODI here on Sunday.

After opting to bat first, India did not have the best of a start as returning Rohit Sharma perished for just eight from 14 balls.

As a result, the visitors were 13-1 at the end of the fourth over with Virat Kohli coming at his long-occupied No. 3 spot.

The right-hander’s much-awaited return was highly anticipated; however, he could not open his account after playing eight deliveries and was caught at backward point.

Notably, this was Virat Kohli’s first duck on Australian soil in 65 matches played from 2011 to 2025. Overall, the right-hander has scored 3616 runs at a stellar average of 51.65 with 11 centuries and 19 fifties to his name.

Yet, India set Australia a 137-run target in a match reduced to 26 overs per side, courtesy of KL Rahul and Axar Patel’s 39-run stand, which lifted the visitors out of trouble.

Rahul made 38 from 31 balls with the aid of two sixes and two fours, whereas Patel struck three fours on his way to 31 from 38 balls.

For Australia, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, and Josh Hazlewood scalped two wickets each.

JOHOR BAHRU: India netted three goals in the last two quarters to hold Pakistan for a 3-3 draw in the ninth match of the Sultan of Johor Hockey Cup here at the Taman Daya Stadium on Tuesday.

Pakistan junior hockey team was leading till the third quarter with 2-0; however, forward Araijeet Singh Hundal netted one into the goal post on a penalty to open the account for his team.

In the fourth quarter, Sourabh Anand Kushwaha scored an equalizer, followed by another goal from Araijeet Singh, who put the Blue Colts on the winning cusp.

Green Shirts were under severe pressure in the last part of the game, yet Sufyan Khan capitalized on a penalty corner and leveled the score line.

Eventually, the match ended in a stalemate at the end of the full time, with both teams awarded points.  Pakistan now sits in third place with four points, whereas Australia is on top, followed by India.

Pakistan had seized control of the match until the third quarter, starting with Hannan Shahid, who scored in the fifth minute of the first quarter, giving the Green Shirts an early lead in the game.

Pakistan doubled the score with Sufyan Khan converting a penalty corner in the second quarter.

The Green Shirts will play New Zealand tomorrow and will face table toppers Australia on October 17 in their final group stage encounter.

The final and classification matches of the tournament will be played on October 18.

Australia have been hit by a double blow ahead of the opening ODI against India, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis ruled out of the series opener in Perth.

Cricket Australia (CA) has added Matthew Kuhnemann and Josh Philippe to the squad as replacements.

Zampa will miss the match due to paternity reasons, as his wife, Harriet, is expecting their second child.

The 32-year-old has opted to remain in northern New South Wales with his family, given the logistical challenge of travelling back from Perth on short notice.

The leg-spinner is expected to rejoin the team for the second and third ODIs in Adelaide and Sydney, and will also be available for the upcoming five-match T20I series, all set to be played on the east coast.

Inglis, meanwhile, continues to recover from a calf strain sustained during a running session in Perth. The injury had already sidelined him from the New Zealand tour, and he is also expected to miss the second ODI in Adelaide.

With Inglis unavailable, Josh Philippe is set to don the gloves for the first time in ODIs.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form on the domestic circuit and recently impressed for Australia A. This marks his return to the national setup after last representing Australia during the 2021 Caribbean tour.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann also makes a comeback to the ODI side after three years.

He last featured during Australia’s 2022 tour of Sri Lanka and has since remained on the fringes of national selection, turning out consistently in domestic one-day cricket for Tasmania.

Selectors are keeping a close eye on player workloads with the Ashes approaching.

All-rounder Cameron Green is expected to feature in the first two ODIs but may skip the third in Sydney to play a Sheffield Shield fixture in Perth. Green is also unlikely to bowl in the India series as he gradually builds up his workload.

Regular wicketkeeper Alex Carey is expected to rejoin the side for the second ODI after completing his Shield commitments for South Australia.

DELHI: Opener KL Rahul hit an unbeaten 58 as India beat the West Indies by seven wickets in the second Test to sweep the series 2-0 on Tuesday.

Chasing 121 for victory, India resumed on 63-1 and reached their target in the first session after losing two wickets on day five at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

West Indies skipper Roston Chase struck twice with his off-spin to send back overnight batter Sai Sudharsan for 39 and skipper Shubman Gill for 13.

Rahul hit the winning four and India celebrated victory over the visitors, who had launched a spirited fightback while following on.

India’s left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav returned a match haul of eight wickets, including 5-82 in the first West Indies innings.

Kuldeep claimed 12 wickets in the series, followed by pace bowler Mohammed Siraj, who took 10, to be India’s leading wicket-taker this year with 37 wickets in eight matches.

India remain a team in transition under 26-year-old Gill, after the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Gill’s India won the opening Test by an innings and 140 runs, having secured a thrilling 2-2 draw in their five-Test series in England in June-August.

With the West Indies missing pace bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph, both injured, India’s batsmen flourished.

The West Indies have endured years of decline after the team ruled world cricket.

This was a second successive Test whitewash, after they went down to Australia 3-0 at home.

There were a few promising signs, at least in the second Test.

Left-handed opener John Campbell and Shai Hope made 115 and 103 as they put on 177 runs for the third wicket to thwart India’s attack on a slow pitch that had little for the bowlers.

India had enforced the follow-on after they bowled out the West Indies for 248, a deficit of 270 from the hosts’ first innings.

The visitors sprang into life in their second innings through Campbell and Hope, and then Justin Greaves and number 10 Jayden Seales.

Greaves with an unbeaten 50 and Seales (32) put on 79 runs for the final wicket to frustrate India after the West Indies slipped to 311-9 in the second session on day four.

That show of defiance forced the Test into the final day and gave the West Indies a glimpse of brighter days ahead.

India closed in on a 2-0 series sweep in the second Test despite some spirited West Indies batting led by centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope on Monday.

Rahul and the left-handed Sudharsan steadied the ship, and the pair kept up the scoring with singles and occasional boundaries against a persistent West Indies spin attack.

Earlier, Justin Greaves with an unbeaten 50 and Jayden Seales (32) put on 79 runs for the final wicket to frustrate India after the West Indies slipped to 311-9 in the second session.

Greaves and the left-handed number 10 defied the bowlers for 133 deliveries with straight-bat shots before Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Seales in the final session for his third wicket.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav also took three wickets to add to his five-wicket haul in the West Indies’ first innings.

Campbell (115) and Hope (103) had steered the West Indies into the lead after the tourists resumed the day on 173-2 while following on.

The left-right batting pair of Campbell and Hope put on 177 runs for the third wicket.

Opener Campbell reached his first Test ton with a six off Ravindra Jadeja before the left-arm spinner trapped him lbw in the morning session.

Hope kept up the charge after lunch and reached his first Test hundred in eight years with a boundary off pace bowler Mohammed Siraj.

Siraj had his revenge soon after when the batter dragged his delivery onto his stumps.

Kuldeep then took over to send back wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, trapped lbw for two.

The left-arm wrist spinner then struck twice in three balls, including skipper Roston Chase for 40, before Greaves and Seales put on a defiant partnership.

India bowled more than 200 overs on a slow pitch that made life tough for bowlers.

The visitors had waged a fightback after being reduced to 35-2 in their second innings on day three, but the batters made sure the game will go the distance to day five.

India’s Kuldeep Yadav earlier took five wickets at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium as the hosts bowled out the West Indies for 248 in their first innings after lunch, a deficit of 270.

Captain Shubman Gill enforced the follow-on, and the visitors lost two wickets before tea.

But opener John Campbell then reached 87 not out, and Shai Hope was unbeaten on 66 as the pair put together an unbroken 138-run stand.

The gutsy batting of left-handed Campbell and Hope allowed them to build the highest partnership for the West Indies for any wicket in Tests this year.

Campbell became the first West Indian to reach fifty in the two-match series with a four off Kuldeep.

He survived a couple of close lbw calls against off-spinner Washington Sundar early in his innings but went on to dominate the bowling.

Hope reached his fifty off Ravindra Jadeja and raised his bat to an applauding dressing room.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul was the first to fall in the second innings, for 10 to a diving Gill catch off Mohammed Siraj, before Sundar bowled Alick Athanaze for seven on the stroke of tea.

The West Indies began day three at 140-4 in their first innings in response to India’s 518-5 declared.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep struck within 30 minutes, bowling Hope for 36.

Kuldeep then had Tevin Imlach given out lbw for 21, a review of the decision showing the ball would have hit leg stump.

Justin Greaves also fell lbw to Kuldeep for 17, and the West Indies were in deep trouble at 175-8 when Jomel Warrican was bowled by Siraj for one.

Pierre and Anderson Phillip, who hit 24 not out, put on a stubborn stand of 46 to steer their team to lunch.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled Pierre for 23 straight after the break before Kuldeep finally trapped Jayden Seales lbw for 13 for his fifth five-wicket haul in 15 Tests.

Seales was fined 25 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council on Sunday for showing unnecessary aggression on Friday’s first day.

India won the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.
