Mitchell Marsh foresees Pakistan-Australia final in the World Cup

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has predicted Pakistan and Australia as the finalists of the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup in India.

Marsh recently appeared in a YouTube podcast, co-hosted by Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, and was asked to predict the finalists of this year’s World Cup, excluding Australia.

“Who is going to win it? India, Pakistan or England?” asked Vaughan.

The all-rounder, however, displayed confidence in his side’s abilities and insisted that Australia would indeed make it to the final of the mega event and would face Pakistan.

“I honestly think that it will be Australia v Pakistan in the final,” Mitchell Marsh replied.

Final T20I washed out as Pakistan Women end winless tour in Australia

CANBERRA: With a lot to ponder on before they set foot in South Africa for the T20I mega event, the Bismah Maroof-led Pakistan can certainly learn from the experience of playing against one of the most competitive sides in Women’s cricket after they failed to break the status-quo in Australia.

Rain washed out the final T20I on Sunday without a ball being bowled, leaving Pakistan devoid of any cheerful moments from their last trip before the Women’s T20I World Cup in February as Australia completely dominated the visitors on their home soil.

Pakistan, who are yet to claim their first win in Australia, lost the ODI series 3-0 followed by a 2-0 T20I defeat during the current tour that happened after a hiatus of almost nine years.

Though there was little optimism left looking at the deplorable outcomes of the two earlier T20Is in which Australia bagged comprehensive wins by eight wickets in each game, Pakistan surely had a chance to figure out the combination before boarding South Africa’s flight.

It is important to note here that Pakistan will play their first match in Group B against arch-rivals India on February 12.

Australia Women outclass Pakistan by 10 wickets to win ODI series 2-0

BRISBANE: Australia Women crushed Pakistan by 10 wickets in the second ODI and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, thanks to a phenomenal batting display by openers Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield after Darcie Brown led the bowling charge.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan underwent a dismal batting collapse as they were bowled out for just 125 with Brown taking three wickets to lead the Australian bowling attack.

Australian openers, in reply, cruised to an effortless win inside 20 overs with Litchfield smashing an unbeaten 67 from 61 balls and Mooney scoring 57 not out from 55 balls.

Pakistan, who are looking for their first win in Australia across any format, were effectively thwarted by the Australian side after they sealed dominant wins in the first two games of the series.

The final ODI will be played on Sunday before the start of three T20Is, giving the Green Shirts a chance to gain momentum before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Shaheen, Imam make big leaps as ICC announce latest rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan’s left-handed opener Imam-ul-Haq and the pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi made big surges in the latest ICC ODI Rankings, updated on Wednesday.

Imam, who remained the top scorer of the recently concluded ODI series between Pakistan and Australia, has leaped to his career best third rank in the updated ICC ODI Batting Rankings.

Previously ranked 10th in the ODI batting rankings, Imam has now occupied the third position as he finished the home series against Australia with 298 runs at an average of 147 including two centuries.

Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen, on the other hand, also made a prominent surge in the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings and has claimed the seventh spot after moving eight places up.

In the Test Bowling rankings, however, the left-arm pacer has moved one place up to accommodate the fourth rank with South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada.

Ellis, Finch star as Australia beat Pakistan by three wickets in one-off T20I

LAHORE: Australia’s right-arm pacer Nathan Ellis starred with four wickets before the skipper Aaron Finch scored a gritty half-century to power the touring side beat Pakistan by three wickets in the one-off T20I, here at Gaddafi Stadium.

Set to chase 163, Australia sealed a thrilling victory by three wickets in the last over, thanks to the valiant fifty-plus knock from the captain Finch.

In the run chase, the touring side was off to a flying start following the blistering cameo of Travis Head, who scored a quick 26 off 14 deliveries before walking back to the pavilion in the fourth over.

Finch then put on another brief partnership as he paired with the wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis for the second wicket and added 44 runs before the latter perished after scoring 24.

Following Inglis’s departure, Marnus Labuschagne also fell briefly after managing to score a mere two.

The right-handed opener Marcu Stoinis then bolstered the touring side’s score with a blistering cameo of 23 runs off just nine deliveries before falling short to Mohammad Wasim Jr.

Finch, on the other hand, stood firm and scored a gritty half-century, while his side was losing wickets at a regular interval. He top-scored for the side with 55 off 45 balls, laced with six boundaries, while Ben McDermott remained unbeaten with his 22 and guided his side to the victory.

For Pakistan, Wasim Jr, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Usman Qadir took two wickets each, while Haris Rauf struck out a batter.

After putting Pakistan in to bat, the touring side managed to restrict Pakistan to a below-par 162/8 in 20 overs despite the brilliant half-century from Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Coming out to bat first, Pakistan were off to a decent start as the opening pair of Babar and the wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan provided a solid foundation to the home side with a 67 runs partnership.

Rizwan, however, who was struggling to get going, perished earlier in the eighth over after managing to score 23 in 19 balls. Following his departure, the left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman bagged a golden duck as the home side lost two wickets in two balls.

Babar then looked to anchor the innings with Iftikhar Ahmed but the latter could not stay for long as he made his way back to the pavilion after managing to score a mere 13.

The Pakistani skipper Babar top-scored for the side with 66 off 46 balls, laced with six boundaries and two sixes before walking back to the pavilion in the 16th over.

Following his departure, the home side began to lose wickets at an alarming rate and none of the batters could contribute significantly. The left-handed all-rounder Khushdil Shah, however, chipped in with his 24 off 21 balls and remained the second top scorer for the side.

The cameo of the leg-spinner Usman Qadir then bolstered the side’s score to 162/8 as he scored a quick 18 off a mere six deliveries.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis led the way with four wickets, while Cameron Green picked two. Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott, on the other hand, made one scalp each.
