The cricket board confirmed in its press release that Salman Ali Agha, appointed as white-ball captain prior to the New Zealand tour, will continue to lead the team.

The star batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan remained out of the T20I squad despite their good showings with the bat during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usman Khan and Abdul Samad, who were part of the squad during the New Zealand tour, were also dropped.

It’s worth noting that all three matches of the T20I series will be held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Meanwhile, the schedule for the series will be announced soon.

Former Pakistan coach likely to become Bangladesh’s bowling coach

Bangladesh are likely to bring in former Pakistan fast-bowling coach Shaun Tait as their new pace bowling coach, replacing Andre Adams.

Adams, the former New Zealand pacer, is stepping down from the role well before his two-year contract, signed in February 2024, was set to expire.

According to Bangladesh media, the decision to part ways was mutual between Adams and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), though the exact reasons behind his early departure remain under wraps.

Adams had taken over the role following Allan Donald’s exit after the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

While his appointment initially generated optimism, his tenure has come to an end just 15 months in, opening the door for a familiar name to return to the international coaching circuit.

Shaun Tait has now emerged as the frontrunner to replace Adams. The former Australian speedster is no stranger to subcontinental cricket, having worked as Pakistan’s bowling coach and later serving in a consultancy role with Afghanistan.

Tait also has considerable experience in franchise cricket, including a recent stint with Karachi Kings during the postponed PSL season 10 and a previous role as head coach of the Chittagong Kings in the BPL.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Tait has been linked with Bangladesh. He had previously applied for the same role during an earlier recruitment cycle but withdrew his candidacy at the last moment.

However, talks reportedly resumed during the recent BPL season, and significant progress has been made toward finalising his appointment this time around.

An official announcement from the BCB is expected soon as Bangladesh prepare for a brief tour of the UAE, where they’ll play two T20Is in Sharjah on May 17 and 19.

BCB adopts wait-and-watch approach on Pakistan T20I series amid regional tensions

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has adopted a cautious stance regarding its upcoming five-match T20I series against Pakistan, originally scheduled to begin on May 25, as tensions in the region continue to unfold.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the BCB confirmed that it is actively coordinating with both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad to ensure the safety of its players currently participating in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10.

Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain (Lahore Qalandars) and pacer Nahid Rana (Peshawar Zalmi) are the two players currently involved in the PSL.

“The BCB is in active coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to guarantee the security of our players,” the board stated in a release.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed, while speaking to a local sports outlet, said the board was closely monitoring the evolving situation and would wait a few more days before taking a final decision on the tour.

“We are really working on the current situation (as far as going to Pakistan for the T20I series), and it can wait for another three to four days,” said Faruque.

“Let’s see how it progresses, but at the moment our main concern is regarding the two players (Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain) who are currently in Pakistan playing in the PSL.”

Despite the uncertainty, it’s worth noting that the BCB has already announced a 16-member squad for both the UAE and Pakistan T20I series, naming Litton Das as captain. Mahedi Hasan has been appointed vice-captain.

They are first set to travel to the United Arab Emirates for a short T20I series, with two matches scheduled in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. The five-match T20I series in Pakistan is, for now, set to run from May 25 to June 3.

According to details, Bangladesh will tour Pakistan in May for a five-match T20I series. Notably, the series, which is part of the Future Tour Programme (FTP), originally consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is.

Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, which successfully hosted the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup in September last year and National T20 Cup last month, will stage the first and second T20Is of the series, scheduled on 25 and 27 May, respectively.

Iqbal Stadium, which has previously hosted 24 Tests and 16 ODIs between 1978 and 2008, will welcome back international cricket after a 17-year hiatus. The historic venue’s last international fixture was an ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan in April 2008.

Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host the remaining three T20Is, scheduled on 30 May, 1 and 3 June. All five matches will begin at 8pm (Pakistan Standard Time).

The Bangladesh team will arrive on 21 May and will undergo training sessions at the Iqbal Stadium from 22 to 24 May.

Bangladesh likely to tour Pakistan for white-ball series in May

The Bangladesh men’s cricket team is likely to tour Pakistan in May for a white-ball series featuring three ODIs and as many T20Is, as per reports emerging on Tuesday.

If the series goes ahead, it will mark Bangladesh’s second tour of Pakistan in consecutive years, following their historic 2-0 Test series victory over the hosts last year.

The series is expected to be scheduled shortly after the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10, which is set to take place from April 11 to May 18.

While the series was originally part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), it was postponed due to the packed schedules of both teams.

However, recent discussions during Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Faruque Ahmed’s visit to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 meetings have put the series back on track.

“I would like to thank PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for the invitation,” said Ahmed. “Both boards have discussed the possibility of holding a white-ball series outside of the FTP, and talks are ongoing to finalize the schedule.”

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Ahmed to Pakistan and appreciated Bangladesh’s support for the Champions Trophy 2025. He also confirmed that the two boards have been in discussions for several weeks regarding the series.

Reports from Dhaka indicate that the matches are likely to be held in Faisalabad, Multan, and Lahore.

Ashwin sympathizes with Pakistan cricket after Bangladesh whitewash

India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed sympathy to the Pakistan cricket team following their 2-0 Test series whitewash defeat against Bangladesh.

The Green Shirts succumbed to a 2-0 loss in the two-match series against Bangladesh, which culminated at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test to complete the clean sweep. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

The whitewash resulted in Pakistan dropping two places to eighth with 66 rating points.

“This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965, barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches,” the ICC press release stated.

Meanwhile, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, sympathized with the “passionate” Pakistan fans and stated it is disappointing to see the current status of the team with such a glorified history.

“What a victory for Bangladesh but what a disappointment for Pakistan. It’s quite disappointing because Pakistan is not an easy team to beat. But more than 1000 days at home Pakistan haven’t won at home. Pakistani cricket fans are passionate,” Ashwin stated.

“You know who I feel for the most? It’s Pakistan cricket’s history. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik, Saeed Anwar, Amer Sohail… I can just keep on going. What legacy that country and their cricket team has,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin also backed Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood, stating that the latter speaks sense and can be a very good captain for the team.

“I feel terribly bad for someone like Shan Masood. Shan Masood is a very smart cricketer. I know that guy. He speaks a lot of sense. He can be a really good captain for Pakistan. But handling a Pakistan team at this point, where somebody like Babar Azam is not the captain and he’s the poster boy of Pakistan, it cannot be an easy dressing room,” he concluded.

Wasim Akram ’embarrassed’ over Pakistan’s series defeat against Bangladesh

Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has shared his disappointment regarding the national men’s team’s historic loss in the Test series against Bangladesh.

Wasim Akram, while talking to AFP, criticised the national Test team’s performance and raised serious concerns over the quality of cricket in the country.

“It’s a huge setback and our cricket is at a crossroads,” Akram said

“For a former player and captain, and a lover of the game, I was left embarrassed at the way they have lost from good positions. I simply don’t get it.

“I don’t get it. We are losing on a consistent basis at home, and that says a lot about the quality of Pakistan cricket.”

Prior to Wasim Akram, former Pakistan Test captain Javed Miandad, known for his blunt remarks, also expressed his disappointment specifically with the team’s batting woes while lauding the touring side for their disciplined performances.

“It is hurting that our cricket has come to this stage. Bangladesh deserve credit for their disciplined performance. But the way our batting has collapsed in this series is a bad sign,” said Miandad.

Another former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his concerns over the team’s struggle in home conditions.

“Home series were always considered our best chance of beating the best sides in the past. But for this to happen the batsmen need to get runs,” Inzamam said.

“I wouldn’t let him come near the team,” Kamran Akmal blasts Pakistan batter

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal lashed out at batting prodigy Saim Ayub after the national Test team’s humiliating loss against Bangladesh.

Saim Ayub scored 135 runs in the series, including two half-centuries, however, Kamran Akmal expressed his disappointment over Saim’s casual dismissal in the first innings of the second Test. The left-handed batter was stumped out after scoring a gutsy 58.

“Honestly, if I were in charge, I swear I wouldn’t let Saim come near the team for the next two years after getting out like he did in the first innings of the second Test,” Akmal said during an interview with local sports website.

The former batter also raised questions over opening batter Abdullah Shafique’s performance throughout the series.

“Abdullah Shafique, as you can see, is a specialist opener. Whether it’s the first ball or not, cricket has become so fast-paced that runs are expected right from the start,” he added.

“You can see that our approach is totally different; we’re not playing the cricket of the ’90s or ’80s. If a player like Abdullah Shafique isn’t scoring runs against such teams, then I think it’s a worrying sign, both for Abdullah and for Pakistan.”

Miandad, Inzamam among legends react to Pakistan’s historic defeat against Bangladesh

Legendary Pakistan cricketers including Javed Miandad and Inzamam-ul-Haq reacted to the national men’s team’s first-ever Test series defeat against Bangladesh.

“Home series were always considered our best chance of beating the best sides in the past. But for this to happen the batsmen need to get runs,” Inzamam said.

Pakistan’s leading century-scorer in Test cricket Younis Khan emphasized that the national players need mental strengthening to overcome the losing streak at home.

“Our batters have got runs in the past but right now I think they need mental strengthening and a clear mind to overcome this crisis,” stated Younis.

Former Pakistan Test spinner Iqbal Qasim, on the other hand, asserted that the national team needs to improve in the spin-bowling department, highlighting that the national team does not feature great pacers like Wasim Akram.

“We don’t have bowlers of the calibre of Sarfaraz Nawaz, Wasim Akram, Waqar or Shoaib now. So, we should be banking on our spinners to win us Tests at home,” he said.
