‘Pakistan team isn’t performing bad,’ asserts PCB chairman Ramiz

KARACHI: The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) – Ramiz Raja came out in defence of the national men’s cricket team and claimed that the side’s performance is not below par.

“Our team performed exceptionally well. They beat India and qualified for the Asia Cup final and our players won four major ICC awards this year.

“Whereas India, could not even make it to the final. Were they executed?” Ramiz questioned.

PCB chairman then went on to claim that the national side will perform well in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Ramiz also commented on the upcoming inaugural edition of the Pakistan Junior League (PJL) and claimed that the one-of-its-kind league will aid in bringing talent to the limelight.

Moeen takes U-turn on Test unretirement, won’t tour Pakistan in December

LONDON: England stand-in captain in the recently concluded T20I tour of Pakistan, has ruled out the possibility of making a return to the England red-ball side after he took back his Test retirement earlier this year.

The 35-year-old also revealed that he would not be part of the England Test squad for its upcoming tour of Pakistan in December.

“That’s a trip I won’t be making sadly. It’s not something I’m keen on doing any more,” wrote Moeen in his article published in the Daily Mail.

England are scheduled to play three-match Test series, commencing on December 1, against Pakistan on the latter’s home soil.

“I’ve had an honest chat with Baz (McCullum) and I can’t see myself being stuck in hotels for another month and playing to the best of my ability. Baz phoned me, we spoke at length and I said, “Sorry, I’m done”. He understands, he knows the feeling.” he added.

Earlier in June, Moeen announced his unretirement from Test cricket and showed his willingness to become part of England’s Test team on their tour of Pakistan.

However, in his recent article Moeen said: “Test cricket is hard work. I don’t think my mindset would be any different even if the restrictions were lifted in Pakistan. I’m 35 now and something’s got to give.”

Furthermore, he expressed that he wanted to enjoy his cricket and it wouldn’t be fair to reverse his decision and then struggle to give it his all.

“With the hectic limited-overs schedule and the franchise leagues I’ve committed to, any opportunity to spend time with my family is precious,” he added.

The England all-rounder announced his retirement from red-ball cricket last year in September after featuring in 64 Test matches for England. He took 195 wickets and made 2914 runs including five centuries and 14 half-centuries during his Test career.

‘Karachi was really good’ Moeen Ali disappointed by food in Lahore

LAHORE: England stand-in captain Moeen Ali disclosed that he was appointed by the food in Lahore, saying Karachi was really good in terms of food.

Moeen, who led the English side to a clinical 4-3 series win against Pakistan in the seven-match historic T20I series against Pakistan, expressed his opinion about the food in two of the biggest cities of Pakitan.

“Food-wise, I’ve been a little bit disappointed in Lahore. Karachi was really good” said Moeen at a post-match press conference on Sunday after the final T20I. “Maybe I have lost my taste buds a bit” he added.

The all-rounder, however, found the hospitality of both the cities quite overwhelming as he called it ‘one of the best in the world.

“The hospitality (in Pakistan) is one of the best in the World. The people look after you so well and they are so nice to you,” he said.

Talking about the security arrangments during England’s historic tour of Pakistan, England skipper said that the security had been outstanding and way above their expectations.

“We’ve looked after extremely well. We’ve really enjoyed being here after such a long time. It’s been outstanding” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that England visited Pakistan for the time in 17 years and played their first T20I series against Green Shirts on the latter’s home soil.

Malan, bowlers star as England thump Pakistan to claim series triumph

LAHORE: England left-handed batter Dawid Malan played a magnificent knock of 78* and powered his side to a massive total of 209/3 before the bowlers decimated Pakistan batting line-up to bolster their side to a resounding victory to claim the seven-match T20I series 4-3.

Set to chase 210, Pakistan’s batting line-up failed completely and could only score 142/8 in the allotted 20 overs, thus, handing a dominating 67-run victory to England in the series decider.

Pakistan were off to a dismal start as the home side lost their key batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan cheaply for a mere four and one respectively. The hosts, as a result, slipped to 5/2 in the second over.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Shan Masood then attempted to script the fightback with a 28-run partnership for the third wicket before the former fell in the sixth over off a short-pitch delivery from David Willey. He could score 19 off 16.

Following the slump, Shan then joined hands with Khushdil in the middle and the duo added 53 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter perished after scoring a snail-paced 27.

The home side then began to lose wickets at an alarming rate, while Shan, who was holding his ground firm also fell in the 19th over after scoring a gritty 56 off 43, laced with four boundaries and a six.

Chris Woakes led the bowling attack for England with three wickets, while Willey bagged two. Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, and Reece Topley struck out a batter each.

England, batting first, on the invitation of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, charged on the host bowlers as they amassed a massive 209/3 in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to a match-defining partnership between Malan and Brook.

The English openers – Alex Hales and Phil Salt – gave the touring side a flying start as they amassed 39 runs in the first four overs and laid a solid foundation for a massive total.

Right-arm pacer Mohammad Hasnain, however, then struck on the first delivery of the first over to hand Pakistan a much-needed breakthrough as he removed Alex Hales, who scored 18 off 13.

The touring side lost another wicket in the same over as a direct hit from Shadab Khan saw their last match hero Salt walking back to the pavilion. He scored 20 off 12 deliveries, laced with three boundaries.

Ben Duckett and Malan then anchored the proceedings for England as the pair added 62 runs for the third wicket and made sure to continue the momentum offered by the openers and powered their side to breach the 100-run mark.

Mohammad Rizwan’s sharp work behind the stump in the 10th over brought an end to a brilliant knock of Duckett, who perished after scoring 30 off just 19 including three boundaries and a six.

Malan and Brook then combined magnificently for a blistering 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The pair took on Pakistan bowlers and also enjoyed three changes offered by the sloppy fielding efforts of the home side.

Malan top-scored for the side with a terrific knock of 78 off 47 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries and three sixes, while Brook fellfour short of his half-century as he finished unbeaten on 46 off just 20 with the help of a boundary and four sixes.

Right-arm pacer Mohammad Hasnain was the only bowler to pick a wicket for Pakistan.

Pakistan eye revenge to seal series victory over England after six years

LAHORE: In a highly-competitive seven-match series, levelled at 3-3 after the first six matches, Pakistan would seek revenge from a crushing sixth T20I defeat to claim series victory over England after six years in the final match at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

The two sides went hard at each other in the first six matches with England winning the first, third, and sixth match, while Pakistan emerged victorious in the second, fourth, and fifth.

England’s hard-hitting opening batter Phil Salt – who rose to fame from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) – charged on the Pakistan bowling attack in the absence of star speedster Haris Rauf and powered England to a dominating eight wickets victory.

In an all-important series decider, Pakistan would likely recruit back their key players Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf to go with the full flow against England in a bid to seal a series victory over the side after six years.
[totalpoll id=”241269″]

England, on the other hand, fuelled with momentum likely to bring in their key pacer Mark Wood to carry on their domination over the hosts.

Pakistan, once again, would be relying heavily on their opening pair – Babar Azam and Rizwan – and the bowling attack, while the middle-order persists to be a concern for the men in green.

Whereas England will rely on last-match hero Salt and their powerful middle order, their bowling attack would also strengthen with the return of Wood.
